I really believe one of the problems with hurricane recovery is the rest of the state doesn’t realize how many people live in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes. There are 200k+ people living and working in these parishes and all of them are affected right now.

Give me a moment to talk about this amazing woman. Born in Gov housing in Italy. Survived allied bombing in WWII. Tougher than any man I’ve ever met. Brought her family to US. Definitely the most interesting person in any room. My grandmother. Love you Nona.
I do not talk about it much because it’s still too painful, but I lost my step brother to suicide over 20 years ago. He was tough, brave, and funny.
Mental health matters. I would give up all of the gold in the world to see him as an adult.
There’s only one conclusion that can be reached from
@fema

I know Saban is the greatest CFB coach of all time. I don’t care. He’s joyless. Seeing O’s face after the game is so much better. Seeing it mean something is everything. He is us.
This is an area where I might break from colleagues. Southern has untapped potential to be a catalyst for growth LA. Funding LSU sucks the oxygen out of the room, but we need to do more to help SU reach its potential.

With all the discussion on marijuana legalization, I thought it was important to learn where my constituents were on the issue before we vote so I commissioned an independent poll of my district.
75% (73% of R’s) favor legalization in District 53.

Terrebonne is in bad shape. No power, no water, no gas. It’s not a stretch to say every structure is damaged.
But the most troubling thing at the present is no hospital. Both hospitals were damaged to the point of being closed.

A greater reckoning is needed at LSU. But I think we should pause for a moment and just applaud the bravery of these women who refused to be silenced. Let's not let their courage be in vain.

Republicans and Democrats, let’s put our guns in our holsters for 2 months. Pick up some olive branches and figure this crisis out together. Our health and economy will improve faster if we row our oars together against the tide of the pandemic.

A legislator from another state recently told me “there are 2 types of legislators - lawmakers and noisemakers.” I loved it. When I was first elected LA had more lawmakers. Now I think it’s noisemakers.
So why are we a state then? I readily support rural broad band even though my parishes have access compared to my northern neighbors. I could have easily say why should south Louisiana residents pay for a North Louisiana problem. But we help each other. That’s the point.

Northern Louisiana's public service commissioner said he will vote against a 15-year surcharge on all Entergy customers to rebuild the company's power grid because it's unfair for those outside the impact zone to pay for the damage.
I want to reiterate what my friend
@JillTolles
told me recently. Some legislators are lawmakers and some are noisemakers. It seems prescient right now.
This will only lead to more people not getting married in the first place. Also, it will lead to people lying and alleging fault when there is none.
If people want to be divorced they will do it. I bet a lot of the people debating this resolution are divorced.

is debating whether it wants to recommend the Legislature eliminate no-fault divorce, which would likely make divorce more difficult and expensive.

You guys, I think we need to have a discussion about what it means to have a part-time legislature. I dont have a position vs full-time, but I think the public has expectations that we are full-time. Maybe modern society demands it. But we need to actually have one then.

One of my most prized possessions on earth. My stepbrother’s mixtape that he gifted to me for Christmas when we were kids in the late 80’s. He committed suicide in ‘95 when we were teenagers.
If you’re struggling. Please reach out to someone for help. I miss him everyday.
For Memorial Day weekend, I am remembering Capt. John Tinsley. He was a green beret who died in 2009 in Afghanistan serving his country. He was also my high school classmate. I think about him often but especially this weekend.

Stupid take. My parents divorced when I was 2. My dad died when I was 14. From the age of 7, my step dad raised me as his own. It’s the opposite. He is self assured. He just loved us. Taught me to be a real man. Not this bullshit.
I’ve never understood as a man why you would date, or marry a single mother if you’re single with no kids of your own.
Seems to me he doesn’t feel he has options or doesn’t value himself as a man.
I’d feel like I was a backup plan helping raise another man’s kids. 🤷🏼♂️

15 and 16 year olds shouldn’t marry. Marriage is a sacred institution. It should not be entered into lightly. We don’t let children buy cigarettes or alcohol b/c we don’t believe they are mature enough to make such a decision. Let’s be a modern state. Even Florida requires 18.
The scenes in DC are truly heartbreaking. We are better than this. If God is truly first in your heart, you know this isn’t the way to act. This isn’t democracy. Everyone of these people need to be arrested.
I'd love to get more precise data on mask-wearing by state. These regional differences seem like they could be material. Also huge differences by country (interesting that it's low in Canada and the UK, two places that have had trouble bending their curves down).
