We are very sad to share the news of the passing of Police Horse Picard. He passed away due to serious complications during surgery on Dec.20th. He was a kind soul who was exceptional at his job and will be missed by all of us.

Yesterday we held a memorial service for our horse Picard. He is truly missed. Picard was one of our best who will be remembered fondly for his kind soul, eagerness to please & the positive impact he had on all whom he met. We will remember Picard and Sam always.

Mounted Officers are in the Entertainment District this weekend. The vantage point from a horse allows you to spot things in a crowd you can’t see from the ground. This is a huge advantage. It may be an old fashioned look but they are a valuable tool in modern day policing.

Sutherland and Invictus are downtown on patrol. We patrol the entire city but you will often see us in the heart of Toronto. Our horses get accustomed to working the very busiest areas of the city- Streetcars, bridges, trains, construction sights, cranes, all part of our day.

Thank you everyone for attending our service for the upcoming International War Animal Day. Our Unit sent 4 men & 19 horses to Europe to support the war effort. All but one horse perished, a horse named Bunny. Our Bunny- carrying on the namesake, was part of the honour guard.

Last night Mounted was called to attend the Kingston Music Festival. There were multiple breaches in the fencing and a large crowd rushed the stage. Officers, our horses and their riders did a great job safely and calmly restoring the stage area so the festival could resume.
