Harvard and Yale have racial preferences that harm only Asian Americans and have no net effect on the number of white applicants admitted. The University of California has figured out how to suppress both Asian American and white applicants, while claiming no racial preferences.

This data is a litigator’s dream. Huge racial disparities in changes to acceptance rates at most of the 6 University of California campuses that are ranked among the top 50 national universities. But the explanation has to be one that doesn’t apply to UCLA or Davis.

@seansimerly @naomicodes @Scott_Wiener The second clause does not ban all affirmative action. The state is looking to re-institute consideration of race and gender in admissions and hiring. California universities and public employment are already very diverse. We do not need race-based admissions or hiring.

Pablo is a good example of status quo bias. He would never suggest moving to a system of different wait times for different ethnicities if the status quo did not do that. But he defends it because it is the status quo.

America excludes people from becoming permanent residents of the US solely because they were born in India. This must change. Pressure to change it must broaden beyond just the Indian immigrants themselves.

Our policy of excluding professionals with advanced degrees (EB-2) from becoming Americans if they were born in India is now broadening to exclude “priority workers” with “extraordinary abilities” or “outstanding professors or researchers” (EB-1) if they were born in India.

The August 2023 US State Department visa bulletin has retrogressed the EB-1 dates, the visa for extraordinary ability, for Indians by TEN years from 2022 to 2012. The US has sent a clear message: "We don't care if you won a Nobel Prize, If you're Indian, you're outta luck." 1/3

@alexglukashenko When more students exceeded standards, or scored higher on their APs, their Berkeley acceptance rate at their school was lower. That is entirely correct and clear. Individual students obviously don’t have acceptance rates, it’s just yes/no for them.

So perhaps the Omicron wave must infect more people to find a similar number of people vulnerable to ending up in the ICU or worse. And perhaps because there are fewer, Omicron will run out of them sooner. Already declining cases in Gauteng suggest that may be happening.

The total lack of any good arguments against the EAGLE Act is best illustrated by the fact that opponents make up accusations that have absolutely nothing to do with the bill. The #EagleAct does not deal with illegal immigration. It ends discrimination between legal immigrants.

In 2020, the number of offers UCSD extended per graduating senior at LA/OC public schools (regardless of how many applied) was positively correlated to the number of top scores that students at the school earned on their AP tests. In 2022, that correlation was obliterated.
