@AlcoholFocus @NicolaMerrin @TheLancet @InstAlcStud @jamesmorris24 @SHAAPAlcohol @VictimOfMaths @AlcoholChangeUK @spidermaani @EwanTCarmichael I'll trot (pardon the pun) this out again - Bacon is the same carcinogen category as alcohol. Where are the labels on that? #BigPig

@Tricky_1984 @AgentP22 @scotgov but as you say, the way the UK supply chain works it is simply not viable.

@rae_alister @tozdee57 @lornaslater I totally agree with this. She had plenty of opportunity to speak with SMEs and didn’t yet other politicians (in and out of government) did. We could have helped to make a DRS work but her ideology meant it would have killed Scottish SMEs and benefitted non Scottish corporations

@RachelReevesMP Government is the SINGLE BIGGEST barrier to growth. How do you propose to tear that down?

@Tricky_1984 @AgentP22 @scotgov Totally agree: chuck the big guys, chuck in the big brands, supermarket own labels etc. and if there is a (high ish) de minimis level for wine and beer (10k for wine, 20k for beer) then it keeps all the niche companies going but gets the big guys which (tbh) are the main issue

@Tricky_1984 @AgentP22 @scotgov Arguably, excluding just wine from the DRS would have pretty much worked & de minimis levels of 10k bottles (for the UK) would solve the issue. But again, it was politicians not understanding the sectors they legislate for being the problem and it will be for this too.

@Tricky_1984 @Douglas4Moray @JohnSwinney @scotgov at the expense of international corporations. I don’t believe they did stop it, I simply think Slater realised she had massively screwed up because she had focused on ideology rather than practicality and she wasn’t prepared to exclude glass. If she had, there would be a DRS now

@Tricky_1984 @AgentP22 @scotgov …and the gov could contact at least the alcohol retailers as they know who they are because we are licenced & they have our contact details. But that requires effort & politicians don’t like that!

@Tricky_1984 @AgentP22 @scotgov Yep, but we still need to consult with SMEs to make it work. Thats the issue, governments don’t do that.

@Tricky_1984 @AgentP22 @scotgov This is why SMEs need consulted with and (I’m assuming) all the politicians involved will make the same mistakes as Scotland did

@Tricky_1984 @AgentP22 @scotgov Not in the slightest! I think they are going to screw it up as well.

@Tricky_1984 @AgentP22 The Scottish system REALLY was not sound. It was designed by and for big business with no understanding of how the drinks trade works and @scotgov refused to meet with small businesses to find a solution.

@SHAAPAlcohol Alcohol is the same cancer risk category as bacon. Where are the warnings on that?
