this is probably one of the coolest splash mountain items i own, it’s the play set! it was released in 2003 in tokyo disneyland
for it being a 21 year old set it works great
every once in a while i dream about owning this one day, i’ve always wanted once since i was a kid
it doubles as a fountain, water comes down the main drop and out of the side and turns the water wheel, it’s SO SICK
interesting to see how the head retracts on the hatbox ghost figure to enhance the illusion of it’s disappearance.
i believe florida’s is a budget cut version where the projection turns on and off.
also don’t take flash pics unless you ask cms first!
#hauntedmansion
i’ve been documenting the splash to bayou conversion since day 1, i have at least 20,000 photos from may 2023 to current day so i thought i’d share one photo from each month (🧵)
hopefully i can share my full collection one day
may 31, 2023
so splash, mansion, pooh, space, railroad, and lincoln are all closed and during d23 when crowds increase significantly
who’s the moron making these decisions ?
NEW: Space Mountain at Disneyland Park will close for refurbishment on Aug. 5. The closure is expected to last about a month while Disney updates lighting throughout the ride, including in the attraction's tunnel. Work will also be done to flooring inside the attraction.
signs are not the problem, they help tell a cohesive narrative
the problem is when they’re not theme appropriate and look like they were designed on canva
#SplashMountain
this actually hits hard, Dan was one of my favorite conceptual artists
splash, imagination, and star wars are some of my absolute favorites
God rest his soul
I was just informed that Dan Goozee, a VERY talented artist who visualized many of our favorite attractions, and (created EDL Plaza Inn murals) passed away. We all fought to have Dan illustrate our projects! He added that "magic" and will be greatly missed.
super disappointed we didn’t get a sign similar to the splash marquee for bayou
i am pleased to know that this sign was carefully transported to burbank and is sitting safe and sound in the archives
#SplashMountain
such an awesome tribute piece made by a friend. the signage for this ride had so much creative potential!
shame
made by
@satisfactualsignco
on IG, he makes awesome signs!
#TianasBayouAdventure
went through some of my things and scanned some country bear jamboree artwork. i’ve got more to scan but these are the few for now
this is for you dawg
@caballero_ducky
logo concept by al bertino
mid 1968
big shoutout to my two homies for picking this up for me, this was a must because
BRER RABBIT IS ON IT🗣️🗣️🔥‼️
and all original characters!
#TianasBayouAdventure
another shot of brer rabbit through the window in the queue
i loved being able to hear zip a dee doo dah before boarding your log, as a kid that hyped me up so well
#SplashMountain
bayou adventure update
photographed from the adventureland tree house, is the new tiana’s foods sign. this thing is enormous
“everybody’s welcome” at the bottom
#TianasBayouAdventure
@TomorrowVenture
@TPMvideos
it’s not the signs themselves but the quality and designs, the splash ones were really fun well themed whereas the newer ones aren’t as period appropriate and are way too simplistic
these are supposed to be previews not testing periods, they should’ve been past this stage months ago
opening day is gonna disappoint, especially for those flying in only for their boarding group to not be called because of delays
brer turtle’s house just after passing brer rabbit’s briar patch
there’s a speaker behind that wonderfully themed and painted speaker cover of a tunnel
#SplashMountain
dave’s right, he knows that building inside and out, he worked up close and personal on most, if not all figures
the a1000 electric figures in the humid environment have always been a concern to me, he does bring up a completely valid point
The Splash Mountain Building is, and always has been, a waterlogged, mildewed , mold ridden, place. There's no way NO WAY electromechanical animatronic figures can survive there. NO WAY. Who, on Earth, thought this was a good idea? Fucking numbnuts.
the hitchhiking alligator, seen to the left just before the dip drop into the laughin place
cool side character, he doesn’t show up in florida but did make it to tokyo
#SplashMountain
the hound dog, his effect worked great at opening then was plagued with problems
i only saw this effect work like once or twice in my lifetime
#SplashMountain
close up of the sign with the archival tag. it was such a relief to see it on there
i also got a close up shot of the tag, we’ll probably never see this sign ever again
#TianasBayouAdventure
Just gonna start dumping everything I have on file for parks related artwork
The timing’s appropriate so here’s a hi-res scan of the Country Bear Jamboree poster for Disneyland
#countrybearjamboree
at the park, documenting bayou as i always do
it feels much better in the backwoods of critter country, especially from tom sawyer island, looks very swampy
#TianasBayouAdventure
the infamous bee trap scene, should be noted that the naacp ok’d this revision while overseeing development
brer fox’s axe has been missing for while, it used to be stuck
#SplashMountain
side note this also infuriates me because the excuse to not completely redo tmrwland is “there’ll be too many rides down” this is proof they can absolutely close that land for a major refurb but they’d rather spend millions on expansions than fixing an integral part of the park
ol brer bear always getting into something, in this shot we can kinda see brer rabbit to the left
you can also see into the dip drop to the right of the shot
#SplashMountain
exterior shots from the main bridge and secret path, log tests were being conducted
this was the last time i’d see the mountain in its original state
#TianasBayouAdventure
brer bear’s rear in view whilst looking for the laughin place, but he only found bees
if you were quick enough you could see his little tail wag before dropping into the laughin place
#SplashMountain
the beginning of my bayou adventure - california documentation
i’ve got over 15,000+ photos of this project from start to finish, ill share the most crucial stages of construction
starting with the day after closing, it was so somber in critter country
#TianasBayouAdventure
bro we got barely anything for disneyland proper, no new nighttime parade, no new fireworks, NO TOMORROWLAND, no dragon replacement, and no look at the actual theme or prep for the anniversary, just a logo
#D23
full shot of the bee cave just after going down the dip drop
this drop gets you so drenched that it feels like someone threw you in a pool
#SplashMountain
brer porcupine and brer raccoon chilling right before entering the finale
brer raccoon is respawning as apollo for bayou adventure lmao
#SplashMountain
mother possum and one of her babies. this figure was dressed literally exactly like the possum in song of the south
the figure already closely resembled the character while in america sings anyway
#SplashMountain
@iamcg83
it’s a thrill ride, at one time, the largest and steepest log flume ever built. some suspense is needed and they had the perfect song and character for it and didn’t incorporate either
splash was never a kids ride, it was designed to pull a teenage and adult audience
the barn owl, the first character we see. this fellow doesn’t have much to say
also not to be confused with professor barnaby owl. two different characters
#SplashMountain
at this exact time, a year ago, my uncle and friends would’ve been getting off splash mountain, the final time with my uncle who first got me on splash when i was a little kid
i miss it a lot
#SplashMountain
i have one major gripe and its that i have yet to see super close up detailed photos of the new foliage
so i took matters into my own hands and got these of the foothills
#TianasBayouAdventure
brer rabbit and brer turtle hanging out in front of his briar patch. everything is just so animated. i love it
also brer rabbit is wearing his suspenders, which are meant to be under his shirt but still cool
#SplashMountain
bayou adventure update
i can finally get closer shots from the ground, now that walls are down. also minimal to no scaffolding
new moss on the old mill too
#TianasBayouAdventure
i won’t believe anything until i see some real movement on this. a redo rumor has been circulating since 2019
but if this does happen, bulldoze all of it except space mountain
“RUMOR” That construction companies have put bids already for Tomorrowland construction project. First time hearing about this but what could it possibly be for? People Mover? Maybe just a land refurb? Something finally being done in Launch Bay? What are your thoughts?
sharing the beginning of my 700+ on ride photo collection. many days and nights were spent in soaking wet clothing so enjoy
brer rabbit seen through the window in the queue
#SplashMountain
my camera’s not great at night but i did my best to capture the new lighting effect emanating from the top of the flume
thinking this a gobo projector? not sure though
poor brer bear, dude got a beehive stuck on his nose. i also managed to capture “the pit” a giant hole that goes all the way to the roof
#SplashMountain
back at the construction site. it’s ironic, i’m not 100% for this change yet i’m more invested and know more about this project than anyone else on this app
(with the exception of
@DrewDisneyDude
)
i’ve documented every stage of this redo since day 1
i honestly think we’re getting the walt animatronic for the 70th, no other reason why lincoln would be closed this long
this would be a spectacular addition to the park
the boothill boys or the brer vultures? these guys are awesome and the most recognizable
dude on the left has a bone in his hands/feathers. cool detail
#SplashMountain
not sure if anyone’s reported on it, but the pet cemetery tombstones have been reinstalled at the haunted mansion
new brick pillars were also built, rumor is mansion will reopen as soon as the end of this month
#HauntedMansion
Deadpool JUST got to Disneyland and is already making jokes about Splash Mountain. 😭
“My jokes are not outdated. They are hilarious, and modern, and unending, just like Splash Mountain. Oops. Too soon?”
