Community note is pretty wrong. If you can place, you can break. Your increased reach means how far the "outline" (on blocks when you hover over them) will increase, thus interaction. Otherwise it'd be awkward if you make a mistake.

The bad omen effect really has so much potential with this change for new types of "events" in mc, and I don't think people realize.
Ominous Trials are now available on Java Snapshot!
🔑 Drink an ominous bottle to gain the Bad Omen effect
🔑 Head to a village for a Raid Omen and start a pillager raid OR enter a trial chamber to trigger a Trial Omen effect

I recall the reason they scrapped the slabs was due to it making the reefs look way too complex and not blocky enough. Essentially its like if you had leaf slabs on trees.

Redstone torch discourse is wild.
The renders being thrown around do not do it justice IN THE SLIGHTEST, it looks significantly better in game.
Either way, the best compromise if they decide to adjust it would be having the inner part be the regular torch texture like before.
