I recall when a Longford Leader reporter died suddenly Eugene arranged a reception at his desk for NUJ colleagues. He also mentioned that he wanted to do something to help the family. - “I’m going to teach his wife to drive”. And he did! Always practical

As @NUJofficial Sec in Ireland I sound like broken record when speaking of implication of media concentration. iconic Newspapers tearing heart out of local titles proves the point. Tough times for media but lay offs avoidable given State aid.

Sad to learn of untimely death of Jimmy Lowry. Brother of @Offaly_GAA giants Seán, Michael and Brendan, uncle of @ShaneLowryGolf He was proud to be identified by association but was also ref, ex club chairman, and a great Ferbane neighbour. @ferbanegaa
