@mikemearls I think a big testament to the system is the common complaint DMs have with trying to get players to try other systems. And even comparing it to Shadow dark if you look under the hood it's the 5e engine, just hot rodded for old school drag racing.

I hear this a lot. And it feels weird to disagree with the designer. But I love high level play. You can throw a gang of dragons at a party of 10 high level characters. The players have so many options that you don't have to worry about the math anymore and you can run literally anything and it works.

I think you're being too hard on the system here. Subclasses are easy to write. I often require players to make their own subclasses for oneshots and always for campaigns. I've rarely played the same character twice, especially with feats and multiclassing working so well. 2024 ruined this though.

Unrelated. There's a bunch of weeds in my garden. I thought if I pulled 10,000 weeds a day I'd finish in no time. However, if I assume no new weeds grow it would take me 391 years and 6 months to get rid of all 1.429 billion weeds. And actually I think 67,385 new weeds pop up every day.

It's silly that I have to say this again, but ignoring dice is not fudging dice. Also, quantum ogres, aren't railroading. Furthermore, random encounters are just quantum ogres. Random dungeon design? Wandering monsters? Quantum ogres. And guess what, it doesn't limit agency.

Ignoring dice isn't fudging. The game NEVER calls for a roll, the DM does. And the DM can disregard that roll if he pleases. Why do y'all think D&D is a boardgame controlled by dice? And fudging is completely unrelated to railroading, another word most of you guys are using wrong.
