Kamala & Maya Harris were brought up primarily by their Indian immigrant mother, Shyamala Gopalan Harris. Shyamala Gopalan decided to socialize primarily with Black friends and families to bring up two biracial daughters- that is where she felt they would get most affirmation!!

Being Hindu as a basis for discrimination did not come up very frequently and strongly in those conversations. It is not that Hindu identity is not used for discriminating in certain settings but Hindu Americans did not use that frequently to understand discrimination.1/7

There were a large number of Indian descent Hindu participants in my study and they talked a fair bit about discrimination. When they spoke about discrimination they referred to their appearance, skin color, accent, culture, food, religion, and racial identity!! 1/6

It has become so normalized for India to deny entry to Indian origin individuals with foreign passport if they are critical about policies and politics of the ruling regime. OCI cards are canceled without any recourse. A must read piece on this issue!

Excellent reporting by @washingtonpost on the massive undercounting of #COVID19India deaths. Ground report from Agra, Bhopal, and Rajkot points to the possibility of underreporting by 10 times or more!! And much of it is deliberate on the part of the govt.

Sikh Coalition, a U.S.Sikh civil rights org., criticized attempts to pass a legislation on anti-semitism which equates criticisms of Israel with anti-semitism. Interestingly,It is invoking its experiences with India & attempts to shut any criticism of India as a parallel to this.
