Honestly, a lot of unnecessary Jean hate seems to stem from shipping discourse and that's a shame because Jean is one of my most beloved fictional characters of all time for a reason.
Jean has to be the most unnecessarily hated character in AoT because it's for reasons completely outside of the story made up in people's heads 😭
Why don't we appreciate him more for his growth and selflessness– things that are actually shown. +

I tend to judge ppl on how they interpret Jean's coping mechanism dream, especially if they try to twist said dream around to call him a bad person/drunk after only a glimpse into a life he wishes he had.
What’s your « media literacy check » in regards to AOT ? (It can be a scene or a character)
For me it’s definitely Eren. Depending of what you think of him , how you interpret his dynamics or his goals, will tell me if I can trust you with interpreting the storytelling.

Reminds me of pair skating in Salt Lake City 2002 when a judging scandal led to the Canadians being upgraded from silver to gold, but the Russians also maintaining their gold so there's just an extra pairs team in first place. Somehow that feels a lot less messy
