We broke Crunchyroll, the legal streaming site for the show, multiple times. We watched legally. As for merch, Hot Topic was inundated with YOI merch for months in the US, and in Japan it was literally one of the top ten highest grossing franchises OVERALL in 2017.
It’s absolutely insane to me that people are trying to rewrite history to say that Yuri on Ice fans didn’t buy merch or watch the show legally. I don’t believe you were in this fandom at the time if you think that.

@ChibiReviews It's bcoz Fuku Noda, the animation producer of Yuri on ice recently left mappa. That's probably the main reason why this got canceled. The person responsible for Yuri on ice is not at mappa anymore.

YOI was the third best selling anime this century. It does not exist because of those mainstream IPs. Instead, Mappa was able to take on those mainstream IPs because of the success of YOI. They were a niche studio taking on only niche properties before YOI exploded.
