@JoelMacManus @AbsentHog What's the reason councillors are looking at it in the first place? Was it not funded and the staff/public kicked up a stir?

@PalmerPierson I don't view her as hopeless, but I can see how some of her gaffs (selling the car comment, airport sale and drinking issue) have led to people having a bad view of her. I do think those issues are pushed more in the media than they would've been for another mayor though

@grant_farquhar @Tiare_MP I'd argue it's not NIMBYism as GP aren't local and they don't want it somewhere else, but they can be anti reality sometimes, like the fact we do need fertilizers.

@PronouncedHare I agree in principle but if you're going to make an announcement of your engagement (with dubious timing) then you can't be surprised at reporting on who the fiance is.

@grant_farquhar @Tiare_MP I agree with that, we need fertilizers to some degree and making urea with hydrogen is the best way forwards. As wrong as they are, it still doesn't change the fact they didn't oppose a wind farm, but what it's being used for.

@grant_farquhar @Tiare_MP Can you provide a link to this? Looks like they support wind projects there but just didn't like the hydrogen plant being used for fertilizer

@tedcruz It's difficult to treat the USA as a normal ally within the NZ alliance system, when they denigrate and punish their other allies for existing and impose mutually damaging tariffs.

@StuartBDonovan @foxcar_joey There's an incentive for the gentailers to have some electricity generated through coal/gas. Which is why they are so keen on LNG, despite the large capital and ongoing costs. Europe has come up against this issue as well, see link

@blaiserize @StuartBDonovan @cha0s10g1c @foxcar_joey Maybe, looks like chemical batteries have the price and safety advantage for now

@StuartBDonovan @foxcar_joey I'm less sure on how to make this an actual policy, but some sort of "overgeneration" would be required, with the knowledge that demand will catch up. My pick would be to set the gov gentailers NZ-wide renewable electricity generation % targets.

@chi_cargo @StuartBDonovan @foxcar_joey We don't need nuclear, we have low enough energy requirements and plenty of untapped wind and solar. Nuclear is still expensive as hell, with massive cost overruns. Not to mention the earthquake risk. Maybe when SMRs or fusion becomes feasible
