In one month, an advisor had 37 qualified leads find/visit his website from doing searches around terms like "capital gains" & "taxes"
Of those 37 people - 15 booked a meeting via his online scheduler 🤯
💥That's a 40% conversion rate!
Yet 37 people doesn't seem like a lot
My husband,
@ProfRyanRussell
has been battling cancer for 17 months
Today, we officially had to start hospice
Our hearts are broken.
Yet on his 41st birthday last week, I got to tell Ryan his dream came true- he officially is a published author ❤️
Friends, I need some help
My husband Ryan was just diagnosed with one of the most aggressive types of cancer - a brain cancer called Glioblastoma
I'm looking for contacts at a hospital in japan or at drug maker
@DaiichiSankyoUS
Read this and let me know if you can help 👇
It’s been 2 weeks since you left us.
I know intellectually that you’re gone, yet I constantly have moments throughout the day where I think “I gotta tell Ryan this” or I’ll see someone driving your model car in town and wonder if it’s you.
Teddy keeps asking “Where Dada Go?”
1 year ago today.
We had Thanksgiving on Siesta Key - the same beach where our love story began
Even though Ryan was battling cancer, we NEVER imagined he'd be gone just a year later
I remember around this time creating an estate plan -"just in case"
I'm SO thankful we did
Before he died, my husband wrote our 3 young children a letter.
This letter was one final gift - a guide for our family.
I shared it at his funeral, and everyone said a version of the same thing - hearing that letter read- has changed them
It's here:
Ryan Russell, renowned designer, entrepreneur, educator and most recently, best-selling children’s book author/illustrator, peacefully passed away at home in State College on Monday after bravely battling brain cancer for the last 17 months. He was 41.
When your husband dies, it's the little things you miss most
Lunch dates
"I picked coffee up for you"
Silly faces
"You look so beautiful"
Belly laughs
"Here babe let me do that"
Laying in bed talking
"Love you infinity"
💕 The little things are really the big ones
In a clubhouse interview Elon Musk was asked,
“What words of encouragement would you give to an entrepreneur?”
He answered,
“If you need words of encouragement don’t be an entrepreneur”
Agree or disagree?
We all tend to put things off - we say we're too busy to go on the trip or make the phone call.
We say we'll start the business or write the book when things calm down.
This is your sign. Stop putting off till tomorrow - because tomorrow is not guaranteed.
❤️ We miss you so Ry
I miss your smile and laugh and the way your humor made everything seem lighter
Most of all, I miss the security of knowing we had a whole lifetime together.
I just miss you.
At bedtime last night we read all the messages and looked at all the pictures you all shared as you got Ryan’s book in the mail ❤️💕
It was the best Christmas present I’ve ever gotten
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you all for supporting our family
Merry Christmas 🎄
"The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.”
Nothing is permanent. Nothing lasts forever.
I’m just so grateful we got to have you for as long as we did.
“Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but can't. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat..the hollow part of your chest.
Grief is just love with no place to go.”
3 Months without you
And that’s my biggest fear… your drifting farther away and out of reach.
I miss your hugs
I miss the way you always said “You’re so beautiful” when I’d wash my makeup off and get into bed
Thank you
@morganhousel
for championing this
You have no idea how much it means to our entire family
We would love to tell Ryan the entire 500 pre-order was sold out
If you buy a book for your kids or grandkids, please leave a note letting us know where you’re located!
My husband Ryan is having a very serious brain surgery on July 25th- an awake craniotomy
We could use all the prayers you will send our way right now!!!
More info:
I can FEEL Ryan's hug just from looking at this photo.
He gave the very best hugs.
And our son Hudson just ADORED his Dad
Tonight he said to me at bedtime "Mom, I need a DAD hug".
I tried. He started crying saying "It's not the same Mom. I need Dad".

Ugh. Grief
I became a widow at 37
My husband and I ran a successful company IN financial services
So if I am feeling overwhelmed by all the financial/legal paperwork after his death, I cannot even BEGIN to imagine what others feel
The right financial advisor is worth their weight in gold
And even though we believe in the afterlife, and the kids talk all the time about seeing you in heaven again some day… I find myself wondering the same thing as Teddy.
Where are you?
Is your soul nearby?
Can you hear us celebrating you, talking to you, crying for you?
Every since my husband died at 41 yrs old leaving me &3 little kids behind, I just don't have it in me to make small talk
I end up mentioning his death in most conversations, which leads to some awkward moments
..but also the most meaningful
Lets normalize talking about death
Before my husband was diagnosed with brain cancer, our financial advisor spent years encouraging us to setup
- an estate plan
- life insurance
- disability insurance
We were in our 30s & felt invincible - kept putting it off. He kept on us & got it done. I'm so grateful to him
Tomorrow is my first birthday without my husband Ryan (who passed on Oct 23rd).
It's been a strange week ..a week that, most years, is usually filled with celebrations (Valentine's day & my Birthday)
My husband was always so wonderful about making the week feel special...
Christmas morning last year 💔
I still cannot fully wrap my mind around the fact that the big, strong, cross-fit loving, processed food and sugar- avoiding, daily meditation practicing husband…. is gone.
The love of my life won’t be with us this Christmas.
Life is so precious
Today is 6 months since my husband passed
Before he died, my husband wrote our 3 young kids a letter
This letter was one final gift-a guide for our family. Everyone who has read it said a version of the same thing
Reading this letter has changed them
We're back from Germany after treatment

and I'm feeling good!
Also, last night
@SamanthaTwenty
and I were honored with the “Fighter of the year” award from Team Ream Foundation at the Penn State Men’s Basketball game.
Thank you for all your continued thoughts and prayers!
When I found this of my husband singing to our kids, I immediately started crying - but also knew it would be a treasure forever.
Never do you think you'll be given a year to live when you're just 39 years old and have 3 small kids.
PSA for today: record the everyday moments
My dad had a stroke last week (at 66).
It impacted the part of the brain that controls verbal communication/emotion, making interactions v hard.
He and my mom raised 6 kids and have been working themselves to death to get to retirement.
I feel so bad for them.
Thank you all for the prayers and messages for
@ProfRyanRussell
Ryan underwent a 6 hour craniotomy (9 hours total in the OR) at the University of Penn yesterday
The surgery went well and he is stable in recovery now
Please keep the prayers coming 🙏🏻 Ryan is so appreciative
There is nothing like facing death to make you realize whether or not you are truly LIVING your life.
Grief is a gift if you let it be.
Schedule the date.
Take the trip.
Make the phone call.
Take the risk.
Be vulnerable.
Do the scary thing.
Life doesn't wait. LIVE it.
Their 1st Daddy-Daughter dance should have been Saturday
It KILLS me that he wasn't alive to take her.
It is excruciating thinking of all the moments my kids will miss having their Dad here for.
But Gracie is so tough. She still wanted to go with her Pop ❤️
And she loved it
This new generation does not want a financial advisor.
They want a life coach with a side of financial planning and investment advice.

This will be my kids' first holiday without their Dad (Ryan)
I'd love to find a gift for my kids to help them remember/feel connected to their dad who just passed away from brain cancer (kids are 8, 5 & 22 months).
Same for Ryan's parents -any ideas?
Thanks for your help!
This sweet friend of mine knew I had a rough year
So she booked us a weekend at a spa resort… scheduled all the treatments and dinners, got babysitters scheduled and made all the decisions
All I had to do was show up
I cant even begin to express how grateful I am!!!
Almost a New Year🍾
This year, put time on your calendar everyday to:
1. Call your partner in the middle of the day to check-in/ say "I love you", just because
2. Play with your kids for 15 mins, distraction-free
3.Take more videos of the everyday moments
You won't regret it
@JamesClear
We do this in our house - my Kids are 2.5 and 5.
To make it easy for them, we put a Value we are working on each month in the Kitchen above the family calendar.
At dinner we talk about that value, and share stories of when we saw that value in action throughout our day.
I ❤️all sports.
Ryan always wanted me to get out & ski with him. But for years I had a baby, was pregnant or nursing. Last year I promised I would do a ski clinic to relearn once our baby was 2
Today I honored my promise! I even wore his ski jacket, so he was there with me 💕
One final tip - don't just take photos - record videos too.
Every video we have we cherish - there is nothing quite like hearing a loved one's voice again after they are gone ❤️

Me and you have always talked about everything… all day, every day, we texted and talked.
Remember when we’d go out to dinner for our weekly date night, and we’d have so much to say… and the time would FLY by….
And we’d see other couples sitting nearby in silence and
Were you scared?
Are you happy with how the funeral went?
Can you BELIEVE our 8 yr old son said “penis” at Church in his eulogy?! (He is so YOU!)
Did you understand when I showed you the Amazon bestsellers list that YOU are one of the best- selling children’s book authors?!
Parents: I’ve shampoo’d 3 heads of hair and read 10 bedtime stories, helped you practice your reading and sang 2 songs, given 5 kisses, & walked back downstairs to get cups of water and special stuffies

It’s really freaking hard, but if you are feeling grief this Valentine’s, try to remind yourself the reason you are feeling it is because you were lucky enough to love so deeply
What a wonderful gift love like that is… No matter how long (or short).
We are the lucky ones
Quietly wonder “how can they possibly not have anything to talk about?!”
We thought we had years and years of those weekly dates ahead of us.
And I still have so much to tell you and so much I want to ask.
What did dying feel like?
Did you know that’s what was happening?
I just want to talk about you, and watch videos of you, and hear stories about you.
Because every picture, every video, every story someone shares of you is like a little gift… a little piece of you to hold onto, helping me feel close to you.

“After someone we love deeply dies, our brain struggles to reconcile two opposing pieces of knowledge—
The conscious knowledge that they are gone
And the powerful, implicit knowledge that they are everlasting.”
- The Grieving Brain
It's making me do some soul searching.
We as humans all need (and deserve) work -life balance, so that we can fund our contentment today, rather than pushing it off to a tomorrow we may not get to see (or if we do see it, we may not be able-bodied enough to enjoy).
"When stocks go down, communication from your financial advisor should go up"
However, many financial advisors don't know what exactly to say to clients during times of extreme market volatility.
Here are 4 Communication Strategies I've seen advisors use that work really well🧵

“We can do hard things”was on repeat 🤣
Instead of saying “Im so proud of you!”
My Mom would say
“Aren’t you so proud of yourself?!” just as often.
I realized today what a profound mental shift this makes over time, when I accomplished something hard and thought “I’m so proud of myself!”

I'm sure I'm missing even more practical tips - but this is what comes to mind when I think of what helped us most.

Planning for that "someday" today is a wonderful, final gift you can leave to those you love.

these last weeks after his 6 hour brain surgery

I'll go first:
A calendar reminder popped up today for "Annual New Year Goal Setting/Trip Planning Lunch!" with my husband ........and I stopped breathing and chucked my phone across the room, bursting into tears
No one says "I'm looking for a holistic financial planner".
People don't talk like that.
They say "I'm looking for a financial advisor. One person who can manage my investments, help us with our budget, and give us some tax strategies."
Write how people talk.
I sent my mom the left photo (bc moms love this stuff- ikyk)
She said “ take a picture with it & send to me”
So I did.
And now I am also on 4 different text chains where she is sharing it with family /friends 🤣
Moms are the best ❤️.
No one thinks they will die young.
No one thinks they will loose their ability to speak.
But life has an expiration date - its unavoidable.
After what we've been through, I'm so passionate about encouraging other young families to make estate plans NOW - no putting it off

Replace "I think" or "I believe" with
"In my experience, I can say unequivocally"
OR
"I can say with certainty from experience"
