Sharing my “reveal” video as tribute to my people- especially my parents who married at 18, had little $$, endured multiple hardships, & worked endlessly to give me every opportunity. My dad’s reaction says it all🥺 Here’s to the heroes behind the scenes💛

Stephanie Ann Saey, M.D. ✨ From the bottom of my heart, thank you to Iowa Medicine, my teachers, mentors, classmates, friends, and family. And to the patients, who make it all worth it. This is the greatest privilege of my life and the journey has only just begun💛
@av0gadra
A resident I rotated with on Internal Med was a prior nurse. I noticed he went above and beyond to be helpful to everyone (including nurses) at any time. He empathized with the stresses of being a nurse that are sometimes overlooked (not intentionally!) by physicians.
I get to train as an Internal Medicine doctor!!🤗🎉 Words can’t describe opening this email!! Truly, though, seeing others’ screenshots is even better🥺 Beyond proud of you all & sending love/strength to those who didn’t received the email they deserve.

Happy ERAS season, IM applicants! I absolutely LOVE my program (Mayo Rochester) and my dm’s are always open if you have questions. Talking with current residents at various programs was the most useful strategy in making my rank list and I am happy to pay that forward.

And… submit!!!✅ If only the little girl on the left knew what she’d become🥺 & the journey is just getting started!🤞🏼🙌🏼 Grateful beyond words to all who have made it possible for me to be here today, applying to my DREAM job🎉🩺 I promise to make you proud.

My first first author publication (case report) was accepted today, and even though I am now at an R1 research institution for med school, the liberal arts-small-school -rural kid in me still feels like this is such a BIG deal💛 anyway, my dad is proud😂👏

My daily ice cream tastes a bit sweeter this evening after FINALLY pressing that “certify” button!🤗 A million thank-yous to my support system, colleagues, & all the incredible people I met during interview szn. Your kindness, patience, & encouragement is everything!

done with step3!!! i cannot overstate what a waste of time, energy, and brain space those 17 hours were. The CCS cases? Helpful for clinical learning. Fun, even. Everything else? Wasteful!
Nothing like FINALLLLLY solidifying what you want to do for the rest of your life. I mean, I should have known by the fact that I enjoy rounding 🤣🤣 Internal Medicine Match 2023, here we come! I’m so excited😊😊😊😊

Extra grateful to be surrounded by so many incredible people at Mayo Clinic - they are all so helpful and humble and have made this transition less daunting! Ready for a transformative year! 🥰
Enjoying our new home in Rochester, MN! ✨☀️We love our neighborhood which has 2 dog parks and a nearby lake! Being only a couple miles from

When caring for hospitalized patients with type 1 diabetes, DO NOT stop insulin! yes, EVEN IF npo!!! DKA should never happen from holding someone’s basal insulin on admission.
On 7/8/23, the best person I’ll ever know (my baby sister), got married to the love of her life. I’m grateful for a program that let me take time off during the first week of residency so I could be with this stunning bride. Family first, always. 💛
Intern year with the best quad ✅ Grateful for every single person in the

In primary care clinic, we get 40 min to spend with each patient & I can't imagine going back to anything less. It's incredibly refreshing to use the extra time to listen, validate, & support. Making people feel heard while delivering high-quality care is the greatest gift.
There’s nothing more rewarding than watching others reach their goals and feeling like you had a *teeny tiny* part in it 💛 People deserve to feel good about themselves
@sarah_ziggy
PREACH, sis!!! To go into recovery with the mindset of “100% Abstinence” is to set yourself up for failure. So much more to be said about this. Havent watched her YouTube documentary series yet but im so excited to this coming weekend!
Just found out I will be inducted into Iowa’s

I’ve tested my blood glucose three times today (as part of a “living with diabetes” simulation) and I’m already over it. Truly cannot imagine doing this chronically - our patients with diabetes are literal heroes.
Resisting the urge to email residency programs to share how amazing my classmates are😭I know this would only be a nuisance, so instead I’ll just tweet that I’m honored to have gone to school with such incredible human beings & they will be an asset to any program💛

I’ve been saying this since day 1 of residency. we need an AI tool that organizes pt background info. I spend HOURS sifting through pt records - a recipe for burnout yet this level of detective work is reinforced when I find a tiny detail in the history that changes management.
I know every day won’t be like this, but man, 13.5 hour shifts really fly by when you’re actually someone’s doctor (with teamwork & supervision of course😌). I cant believe I get to do this for the rest of my life.
@joshmcgoo
lol i personally was ECSTATIC when I got a case report published bc to me, it was a big deal! We are all at different levels & there will always be someone doing more impressive things, doesnt mean we dont deserve to feel excited about our small victories!💛
My first appointment as a doctor - from seeing the patient, presenting to my consultant, entering all the orders, and writing the note/signing the encounter - took a total of 3 hours.
Today I got that down to 2. 🤣😭

Ethics!!! Some ethics q’s are actually objective/straight-forward because they’re QI terms and such. The morning of my exam I crammed a single Amboss QI article during breakfast that helped me answer 3 questions! so that’s always my advice for last min :) you will do great!🎉🥰
5 min til IV log in and as we near the end of the szn, I just want to give a s/o to all the PDs, program coordinators, faculty, residents, & support staff for their efforts. Working with thousands of applicants is surely no easy task. We are grateful!

My patient’s family member just told my attending “we are in love with stephanie” which is, like, the best thing that could happen to me this Tuesday morning
Okay WHO wants to give me some love bc today i REALLy deserve it! I was admitted to treatment this week & have been doing some INTENSE sessions. this afternoon i took my SURGERY SHELF exam in an office here after morning groups and meals. I am a freaking bad*ss.

Tweeting during an IV break to say THANK YOU to all the mentors who write incredible LORs for us applicants. My interviewer loved how personable my letters were &said the time/effort put into them was very clear. Made me emotional🥲Mentors everywhere - thanks for all you do!!!
If you've had a great teacher/mentor recently, here's a reminder to send them a message of gratitude. It's easy to expect a standard of excellence and forget how much effort is required by others to create this standard. A thoughtful message every once in a while is important😊
This fall I will be busy co-tutoring two step1 prep groups, serving as lead tutor for two M2 classes, & hosting biweekly case-based-learning sessions with pre-meds. Funny thing is, NONE of this seems like work!? always SO grateful that

is a huge part of our profession!
Recovery is hard. Being an M2 on rotations in the midst of a relapse is even harder. Grateful for these moments, though, bc they humbly remind me it’s okay to struggle. It’s okay to be human. And I’m going to be a kickass provider because of it.

Often I get caught up in the stress of being a med student and forget how lucky I am to even BE one. Slowing down and showing appreciation is how we remain humble and fulfilled while pursuing even bigger goals. Gratitude for the present does not equal complacency.

for now ATLEAST step2 is relevant to actual medicine. id rather be stressed about making sure i get q's on clinical management correct than on intracellular signaling pathways. i cant even be proud about doing well on step1 bc half the stuff i studied seemed so pointless🤦♀️
Yearly oncology check & I remain cancer free/anything “worrisome” is completely stable :) These days always make me pause & count my blessings. I am very grateful for the care I receive(d) at UIowa and to now be training for my MD at this amazing institution💛

Okay but am I obsessed with Internal Medicine or am I just obsessed with all the amazing

residents and staff because at this point I really can’t tell💀🤣
Friday night I witnessed a man on a bicycle get hit by a car. I followed my ABCs and stabilized his head/neck. My contribution to (hopefully) saving this man’s life was *extremely* small, but in that moment I had never felt more grateful for the opportunity to learn medicine.
the team you’re working with makes such a difference. i’ve spent 5 days now on the diabetes consult service stalking glucose levels & titrating insulin but it’s been such a blast! 💛🙌🏼 Endocrinologists are so cool 😎

Agree in an objective sense, but everyone has a right to be excited about their accomplishments, big or small. It is not my place to tell someone whether they should or shouldnt be proud of their hard work. Even if it took two hours. Like I said, we are all at different levels.
I really wish everyone could have access to the medications they need - medications that are in fact extremely INEXPENSIVE to produce. I don't have answers and I know I am not the only one who wishes this, but I am just tired. I want to become a more effective advocate.
