"I'm definitely coming back. that's it, nothing more to it,” Murray said. “I love it here and love working for Coach, and I owe him everything in my professional life."
Added Young..."I'm as committed to being here as anybody."
Do the right thing:
@UConnMBB
players have tough decisions to make in coming days, none tougher than Alex Karaban.
He says he hasn’t even thought about it, but noted how Breanna Stewart went 4-for-4 in titles.
“We’re halfway there.”
“I’m going to be here next year,” he said. “I’m going to take a big leap, and they’re going to need me. I’m just waiting my turn.”
I'm feeling good about Jaylin 😉
For
@ForbesSports
, my article from last night on UConn winning the Big East men’s basketball tournament for the first time since 2011. Freshman Jaylin Stewart had three, 3-pointers in a three-minute stretch in the second half to propel UConn’s victory -
"Sanogo was once on a two-way contract with Chicago, meaning he would switch between the Bulls and their G-league affiliate team. But after dominant performances at the Summer League in Las Vegas and continuing to impress in training camp, Sanogo is a full-time NBA player."
"UConn continuing to look like the best team in the country. 4-0 without Donovan Clingan.
"Once Clingan comes back, there could be some separation between the Huskies and everyone else."
- Jon Rothstein
2024 looking special folks...
After Hurley walked from his postgame press conference back to the locker room, Pitino stopped the UConn coach for a handshake. “Win it all. Win it all. You have the team to do it."

I don't know if we win the title or not this year. But I'm so proud of this team. They are down Dorka w/a 75% Paige.
So many wrote on Twitter that UConn's reign was over. That Geno was finished & irrelevant. That UConn was no longer one of the elite.
How wrong you all were.
"Auriemma believes El Alfy would’ve been the top prospect in the class of 2023 had she hailed from North America instead of Egypt. He pointed to the FIBA U19 World Cup in which she led the entire tournament in scoring at 21.4 points per game — despite not even turning 18 yet..."
Jana El Alfy has waited longer than anyone to play for UConn. Yet despite returning from a ruptured achilles, the Huskies remain high on her.
“She has no life other than rehab because she wants to play so bad.”
Tristen Newton's cousin, Aaron Jones of the Green Bay Packers, is having himself a playoff game. 3 TDs so far.
Aaron...UConn Nation's behind ya, brother.
“That’s true,” Castle said, “but I never won anything in high school. I never won a state championship. So I wanted to come here and be coached by a winner. I wanted to be a winner.”
Pretty compelling words by Geno.
“Myself, the staff, the players, & everyone associated with our program has been really truly, truly blessed that she's come into our life because I can honestly say in 40 years, I've never coached anybody better at Connecticut —never in my life."
Jana El Alfy has waited longer than anyone to play for UConn. Yet despite returning from a ruptured achilles, the Huskies remain high on her.
“She has no life other than rehab because she wants to play so bad.”
"We didn't get good on offense until Alex got here" Hurley said last Nov. "When you have a 4-man that can process the game the way he does and keep your group organized, & also has the clutch gene, with a knack to make clutch shots and big free throws, he's a special player."
The NCAA scheduled Greenville, SC as a regional location absolutely knowing it would be entirely filled w/SC fans.
And nary a peep of dissent .
If this had been at an eastern location (or in the state of CT?), can you imagine the screaming in Twitter?
Just sayin'...
“It was probably...4 days after we had won the title, but you know I was sad. I didn’t want to leave that place. I love UConn, coach Hurley, the staff, the people around me, & my teammates. Every time I walk in that blding, it’s home...I still feel like I’m part of the team.”
Taken directly from the ESPN WBB front page story.
The ESPN analysts make their picks:
Which teams win Friday? Stanford vs. UConn
Barnes: Stanford
Creme: Stanford
Philippou: Stanford
Voepel: Stanford
Even the UConn-biased media has turned against us. {sarcasm}
"...don’t be surprised if his recruitment comes down to Duke versus defending Natl Champion UConn. UConn is coming off winning the NCAA Tournament & is closer to home (although still a 4 & a half hour drive). Duke, on the other hand, has coach Jon Scheyer.
"They've done the most of any intercollegiate basketball program in the history of basketball, men or women."
- DePaul head coach Doug Bruno on Geno Auriemma and the UConn Women's Basketball program
UConn vs Marquette potentially 3x this season will be the Big East equivalent of the Duke/UNC rivalry.
Top 5 teams, at the peak of their games, going at each other with high-energy systems.
Must-see national games.
Let's remember one set of facts. UConn is elite in:
Facilities (NFL level)
Athletic Spending
Coaching
Academics
Administrative Leadership
Athletic Championships
Market Size
Proximity to the NYC Metro
Fanbase Engagement
We are simply elite.
"Their pitch to me is that it's just a winning school and a winning culture," said Flagg. "No matter how good they may think I am or how good people think I am, coach Hurley is going to push me no matter what and help me get to the next level."
Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 recruit in the country, recapped his UConn visit, previewed Duke and updated the next steps in his recruitment with
@247Sports
on Friday night.
STORY:
"It felt like a perfect fit. Coach Hurley is a hard-nosed coach. That's the kind of coach I thrive under. The offensive system they run is perfect for my game. The culture of the team. The sets they run. They are going to help me get better on both sides of the ball."
STORY: Top-10 recruit Liam McNeeley commits to defending champions UConn.
Why did he commit to UConn, what are the Huskies getting, and what are his expectations next year?
LINK:
Literally undebatable. One is the GOAT. The other will certainly be in the HOF & has the potential to be amongst the game's most elite coaches.
Surreal they both landed in Storrs.
Always feeling blessed...
Charles Barkley is speaking about NCAA Championships. "It's really hard to win championships. Everything needs to be aligned."
He's right. Izzo has one, Self has one.
Reminder: Jim Calhoun won 3! Geno's won 11. At UConn, it's been an amazing ride!
No matter what happens in the Cooper Flagg recruiting battle, we know one thing: we have an extraordinarily elite coach, recruiter & leader in DH.
He will be a Top 2 coach in the game within 2-3 years. Maybe the Top Coach? We'll see...
Anyone under the delusional belief that UConn will no longer be a force in women's basketball just needs to look at next year's class. The future looks insanely bright 🕶️🕶️🕶️
Cooper's Mom played alongside Donovan Clingan's Mom when they were both students at the University of Maine.
It'll be interesting to see how Cooper's recruiting plays out.
Cooper Flagg is 16. He is the best HS prospect since LeBron James. For real this time. Been trying to tell you for 2 Years. He is better than Wemby in every phase of the game. Right now. No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
@CBBonFOX
You can't win every year, or nearly every year. That's just unrealistic.
But Geno did win 11 titles in 22 years. 14 straight Final Fours. All in the modern tournament era w/64+ plus teams.
That's unrealistic too. The man is the greatest March coach - no one else comes close.
Because UConn wins so regularly, we often forget these players are kids/human beings who are not perfect. They are talented, successful kids, but still kids.
They played below their typical standards, but still won. The future is still bright, & I'm not worried a bit.
Halftime of the Nova/Baylor game & Seth Greenberg is talking about the Big East. "Connecticut is for real and the deepest team in the league. 7 teams going to the NCAAT."
Who ya pulling for tonight: Kansas or Marquette?
Or don't you care?
Would you rather face the
#1
team in a couple weeks? Or have a signature win for the Big East?
I'm pulling for Shaka. A great coach & classy guy to boot.
"When the GOAT tells you to get your head out of your ass, you get to work."
The authenticity and honesty of Dan Hurley fully exposed. Just another reason I LOVE this guy.
* 5 titles in 25 years.
* Titles in 4 consecutive decades.
* One of 5 winningest programs in history.
I am so proud of the Huskies and Danny Hurley
So very sweet to experience this.
"Sanogo played in 2 preseason games with the Bulls, averaging 5.5 points & 4 rebounds in 11.2 minutes per game. He did enough to impress head coach Billy Donovan & Bulls brass, & he’ll be among the 17 players in uniform as the Bulls take on the Okla City Thunder in Chicago..."
"Castle stays calm and controlled with the ball in-hands, using an ambidextrous handle to generate paint touches with relative ease. He’s a good passer who looks to get others involved and has enough perimeter juice to make himself a threat."
Wow. Happily did not expect this.
Proud of you Coach Mora. Proud of you Defense. Proud of you Zion. Proud of you Victor Rosa. Proud of you Burnsy, Houston & Joly.
Very sweet win. Good call Bobby Wilson. Great, great win.
First, great game by ND. They played hard, smart & well. Superb coaching.
But this was a harbinger of exactly nothing. UConn was flat (it happens) & without Azzi/Dorka we didn't have answers. But objectively, UConn needed a loss to expose it's weaknesses.We'll be fine.
“I get higher and higher on UConn signee Stephon Castle every time I see him in action. He’s playing like a top 10 talent and I’m not totally sure he won’t be in conversation for the top five before all is said and done. He seems to check every box..."
What Jim/Geno/Nancy accomplished from our small land grant school is nothing short of amazing.
Well, Jim Penders is nearing that rarified air. To consistently win in baseball from the NE is beyond difficult.
Pull all the mojo you can. Tonight's big for Husky baseball.
“[Duke and UConn] are the two finalists for a reason. He feels a great connection to those coaches. It’s a hard position to be in. He’s got two great choices. He can’t go wrong either way.”
Not just the greatest women's basketball coach of all time. One of THE GREATEST COACHES of all time, in ANY SPORT!
Geno, love having you here in Houston‼️
"I'm very happy where I'm at," Berube said. "I'm happy coaching at Princeton. It's a great job and you can be really successful here. This is where I want to be.
"If you're alma mater calls you, you take the call. I will say that. That's all I'll say."
Plenty to be excited about this season.
But it's perfectly ok to dream about next year, too.

3 potential NPOYs & a 3rd team AA starting.
UConn ain't done this year. They surely ain't done next year.
"It was a great visit and I feel it could be a good spot for me. Coach Hurley feels like I am one of the best players in my class and so do I. He feels my style of play matches the way he coaches. When I was on the visit, it felt like everything was clicking. "
Top ten rising senior Meleek Thomas completed an official visit to
#UConn
last month.
He caught up with
@247Sports
to discuss his thoughts on the Huskies and other schools he is considering scheduling official visits with this fall.
𝐕𝐈𝐏
"McNeeley isn’t just a shooter, though it’s his best asset. He’s also a competent driver, able to get to the hoop in transition for an easy layup or occasional slam. McNeeley is an excellent cutter too, a staple of UConn’s offense..."
Nice piece by Stratton.
Another favorite quote from the Syracuse message board:
"There’s not one player on UConn that is close to being remotely likeable. Maybe Clingan and Sanogo, but every other player on that squad is annoying as hell."
Ironic. I find our guys extremely likeable. 🤷♂️
Most surprising to me: how fluidly our freshmen Karaban & Clingan have been integrated into the rotation -- & what meaningful contributions they are making.
Big-time kudos to DH for building chemistry so quickly with a 9-10 man rotation.
I'm impressed w/UConn's play given the physicality the officials are allowing -- & how little depth we have.
Add Azzi & Caroline to this group and we are up double digits. Next season, SC is not nearly the same team.
This whole passing of the torch is wholly exaggerated.
While you are sitting down watching extra innings baseball with the Huskies, a football announcement:
A transfer from Alabama (yes that AL) has transferred to UConn. His name is Dayne Shor, a 6-5 308lb OL GA. He had 35 D1 offers.
Even including UConn's most challenging years last decade the program pumped out NFL talent better than 10 of the current B12 schools.
With an elite coach (Mora) & leadership (AD Benedict) the program will do even better in the future.
“It was an amazing visit. They’re back-to-back champions, so it is hard not to like. They have a winning culture, a hard & gritty culture. They get after it on defense & let that turn into offense. I’m glad I took that visit..."
"Their pitch to me is that it's just a winning school and a winning culture," said Flagg of UConn. "No matter how good they may think I am or how good people think I am, coach Hurley is going to push me no matter what and help me get to the next level."
All that's left to it is to do it. With his visits to
#Duke
and
#UConn
completed, the nation's top-ranked player Cooper Flagg should have all of the information he needs to make a decision
"UConn wanted the role to help women, particularly women of color, experience coaching & learn from the program that set the standard in women's basketball. The first woman they hired w/the new focus in mind was Jasmine Lister. Pavlech was the second after asst ...Marisa Moseley
Baylor assistant coach Chloe Pavlech got her start in coaching as a graduate assistant with UConn women’s basketball.
To this day, associate head coach Chris Dailey still mentors Pavlech
“there's no UConn without CD”
"Of course, UConn has a history of leaving the Duke...program feeling crushed (replay their '99 national title bout & '04 Final Four matchup)."
"...the Huskies are no recruiting slouches, particularly now that they have the most recent natl championship."
Not to set too many expectations...but this team is ungodly loaded.
* 3 NPOY candidates (Paige/Azzi/Aaliyah),
* A 3rd team AA (Caroline),
* One of the best PGs in the game (Nika),
* Athletic Aubrey
* Plus Ice, Jana & the great freshmen class .
Pretty loaded me thinks.
Terrific comeback by PC. But when it got down to 5-7 points, UConn executed on nearly every possession. Big 3s from multiple sources.
UConn learned something from this. It's a win & we should feel good about it. UConn will be fine
We are one of the best teams in the country.
"Listed at 6-foot-2, Cheli fits the big guard mold that the Huskies often look for — think Caroline Ducharme and Katie Lou Samuelson. She plays point guard for her high school team, but can also get inside or flex out as a wing when needed."
Saw plenty of Tweets, from BC fans, noting Jim Mora is the superior coach.
Also saw a lot of tweets claiming Jim and our players will be poached by P5 schools. Sorry, but I don't either happening. Something special is happening in Storrs, folks.
"UConn seemed like the place to be because they didn’t make it feel like a business,” Branch said. “Other schools made it feel like it was a business to come there. UConn made it feel like home. They rolled out the red carpet. This was my home. Other schools, it was a business."
On the connection
@UConnCoachMora
built with the top-ranked recruit in UConn's 2022 recruiting class
“He was very sincere. The thing I liked about him is that we both have some things in common: one, confidence; two, a chip."
The UConn Dairy Bar getting a well-deserved national shout-out.
America's best ice cream...like forever! I know, because I was there forever ago & it was amazing then!
"He would have been a top-20 pick, but he knew he wasn't ready. Literally, the next day, he just came in and said, 'Hey, Coach, I'm not ready. Let's run it back.' There wasn't a meeting with the agent and a series of drama, you know. He is a special kid."
Had to turn off ESPN Women's coverage. Even during the Stewie years UConn was beatable; the odds may have been lower, but never UNbeatable.
To listen to this crowd, SC's super human. They've already had 2 OT games & a very close loss to UConn this szn.
Unbeatable? Hardly.
“We wouldn’t have taken a visit [to UConn] if he didn’t think it was a place he could see himself at,” she says. “He needed to get on campus and get a feel for the culture, and what the coaching staff was like in their environment.”
“[Duke and UConn] are the two finalists for a reason. He feels a great connection to those coaches. It’s a hard position to be in. He’s got two great choices. He can’t go wrong either way.”
“We don’t look at anything as pressure,” Diarra said. “We just lock in and want to play our best basketball for a full 40 minutes. And we’re enjoying this. That’s the most important part, to enjoy this moment and go out and just perform. There’s no pressure.”
So many celebrated when we were down.
So many said our glory days were over.
So many questioned Dan Hurley.
So many said Jim Calhoun ain't walking thru that door.
Well Danny & Jim walked thru the door together & won a 5th national title.
The UConn Huskies r National champs
"...for me it is just the way that Coach (Dan) Hurley coaches. At USA just being around him, there were times when I caught myself just watching him coach. To be honest, as a coach, I mean he is just a dog. The way he shows his emotions on the court..."
