Is it just me or does it feel like Missouri State is reborn again? With all the recent changes, I think we have a real opportunity ahead of us. Buckle up sports fans!
I’m so glad to see that Missouri State is finally stepping up its game on coaching salaries and talent. We have all the pieces in place to be successful now in all sports. Just need to upgrade our football facilities and the sky’s the limit. Go Bears!
Great article regarding the CUSA TV deal that was just signed. Looks like $800k per school on the TV revenue. This doesn’t include the college football playoff money, which, according to Yahoo, will be around 1.2 to 1.5 million per G5 school per year.
With a new president and A.D. coming in, what do you see as Missouri State’s most pressing priorities?
For me it’s:
1. Football stadium renovation.
2. Attracting new donors.
3. Reinvigorating the fan base.
CUSA announces the 2024 football schedule. This should give you a good indication of how many nationally televised football games the Bears will get next year.
Let’s get to know your upcoming C-USA conference mates. First up is Florida International.
Started in 1972. Has grown to become the eighth-largest public university in the US with 55,687 enrollment. Has a $276 million endowment. Located in University Park, Fl. (Sarasota area).
Good on the university for extending Coach Beard! In his new contract, he will make $315,000 this year and $450,000 next year when we begin FBS. Sounds like that number will increase again in 2026 and 2027.
Getting to know your upcoming C-USA conference mates: Today’s Spotlight will be on Louisiana Tech University.
La Tech was founded in 1894 and has a current enrollment of 11,084 students and an endowment of $117.9 million. It is located in Ruston Louisiana.
Boise State, Duquesne, South Dakota State, Boston College, High Point, Hampton, Missouri State, and Old Dominion will headline the 2024 Cayman Islands Classic, per release.

ASUN ATHLETICS
No official word, yet … but Missouri State AD Kyle Moats appears to be a strong candidate for the same position at EKU
Moats’ son - Kirk - is currently EKU’s senior associate athletic director or compliance and student success
More news: Conference USA is also deeply exploring a multi-million dollar naming rights sponsorship, sources tell
@YahooSports
.
One of the companies under consideration is Globe Life. Possible new league names include Globe Life Conference USA or Globe Life Conference.
The NCAA Playing Rules Panel has passed legislation to permit schools to display corporate logos on football fields, according to Yahoo’sRoss Dellenger, who notes conversations are ongoing regarding jersey patches.
Mo State needs to be working this for a new revenue source.
This is a really stupid idea that won’t end well. What next? High school kids will be become employees of the school district? Completely out of control.
The Florida High School Athletic Association has approved
#NIL
for high school players.
There will be high school players who earn more than their coaches.
My ATO Sports Scene Episode 31 podcast is out ... I appreciate
@kmoatsmsubears
for his time and for answering so many detailed questions and how it all came about with the
@MissouriStBears
move to CUSA, as well as his tenure as AD at MSU. Hope you'll give it a listen!
According to USA Today’s Steve Berkowitz by Navigate, corporate logos on football fields could be worth $3.8M to $4.2M a year for “Top level” Power 4 schools, $300K to $700K for other Power 4 schools, and at least $50K-$90K annually for Group of 5 schools.
My thoughts around this whole corporate naming thing is that every conference is going to do it. The $$ landscape is changing so fast that more corporate dollars will need to need to be found. It won’t just stop with FBS football, even the Valley will have to do it to keep up.
Think you know every FBS College Football team???
I asked 8 fan bases at the College World Series to name the football team associated with their Mascot. Enjoy!

@UpdogSportsTalk
I think working with his son had a lot of appeal, but beyond that, a new president is coming in next month and will more than likely want to name their own AD. It’s just how it works.
Big 12 in discussions w/Allstate on a naming rights deal to change league's name, sources told
@ActionNetworkHQ
. Deal could be worth b/w $30-$50 million annually & name possibilities include Big Allstate Conference or Allstate 12 Conference, sources said
The first 3 months of ‘24 were the worst the pay TV business has ever seen, acc to MoffettNathanson, who says the industry lost a record 2.37M subscribers – a decline of 6.9%.
This is why I question the long-term model for paid athlete employees. Where’s all this $ coming from?
Sources:
The NCAA will allow schools to play up to 2 intrasquad scrimmages at an off campus location in addition to 2 exhibition games vs NCAA affiliated schools (including D1)
All of these are allowed to be publicized and have tickets sold.
Breaking news. Mitch Hannahs is leaving ISU Baseball for the head coaching position at USF. Hannahs went 355-214-1 in 11 seasons at ISU with 5 NCAA Tourney appearances.

Congratulations to you both! This post would’ve been a lot funnier had you listed your top six choices (some with interest and some with offers) and then asking us to respect your decision. But then I suspect there would be no announcement at all. 😂
@SSN_GMU
The president he worked for retired and the university has a new president coming in July 1.
His son also works in compliance at EKU, so it gave him an opportunity to finish his career with his son.
@thjcopark2701
This is not as big of a deal as it might look. Happened under the Petrino era when a lot of players transferred out. Things are back on track now. Bears can’t make postseason play for the next two years anyway. We & CUSA have known about this for a while now.
@mattcrocker89
@Bear_up1
Excellent people. That wasn’t the intention of my post at all. I was basically saying that it feels like Missouri State has an opportunity to sort of reset itself, moving into FBS football and all the new coaching changes, etc.
We should hear something pretty soon regarding conference affiliation for men’s Swimming and Diving and men’s Soccer. Neither sport is offered in CUSA. my best guess (and it’s only a guess) is that swimming stays in the MAC and men’s soccer continues in the Valley.
