This weekend, we did something very significant in the recent history of the Scottish Church: we returned St Columba’s relics, on foot, to their original resting place at Iona.
Whether you’re pro-life or pro-choice, terrible takes like this do not help the stigma against kids in care. An unfortunate situation does not make us sub-human.
Last week, a teenage girl wore traditional Chinese dress to her prom. The internet then raged at her for "disrespect" and "cultural appropriation".
This week, Rhianna wears a glam pope dress mocking Catholicism. But it's all just "sensational fashion" and "artistic diversity" 🤔
3 things that a parish can do to become more accessible to young workers and families:
🔘 Principal Weekday Mass should be at 7am-8am - not at 10am when everyone is at work
🔘 Churches should be open throughout the day and evening
🔘 Confessions should be more than twice a week

- I was in care for 17 years. When I was wee, my lawyer told me that I would do her job one day. It looks like she was right!
On this day 67 years ago, Fr. Joseph Ratzinger was ordained a Priest in the Cathedral of Reising, Germany on the Feast of Ss. Peter and Paul.
Ad Multos Annos, Papa Benedetto XVI!
There was a real testament of faith shown by the 60 pilgrims who braved torrential rain and scorching sun to do prayer and penance for the renewal of the Catholic faith in Scotland, and to pray especially for our bishops and priests in their evangelical mission.
This patter really upsets me.
My mother died from alcohol addiction when I was 14. If you’re an alcoholic, you’ll choose the liquor over rent, food, children - anything. These price controls only plunge alcoholics into more poverty. It’s utterly sick.

Why on earth did we ever let our gorgeous Victorian city centre be ripped in two by a concrete monstrosity? Give us back our city!
One of the obscurer reasons to

concerned the negative effect that Abortion will have on an already dwindling Irish population. In turn, this will affect other things such as a lower supply of children available for adoption - and probably an increase in demand for IVF

“‘Cause, you know, every modern state is inherently religious. Liberalism itself is a religion; it has its own doctrines and even its own quasi-liturgical rites. So there’s no real ‘secular’ neutral ground, right? All conflict is ultimately theological.”
BREAKING: In a 218-211 vote, the Democrat-controlled House just passed the most extreme abortion law in American history.
It would codify the "right" to kill preborn children through all 9 months in all 50 states.
On this day in 1962, Dr. Gianna Molla also entered Heaven, having chosen heroically to give birth to her fourth child instead of having an abortion. Like Christ the Pelican, St. Gianna gave herself to save her own.
May St. Gianna Molla welcome wee Alfie into heaven.
This morning I was honoured to pray with and carry the relics of St. Thérèse before her relics are taken to Scotland. Let us pray that her visit will bring many “roses” to Scotland and return many souls to Christ.
Our Lady of Scotland, pray for us!
St. Thérèse, pray for us!
Throughout 2019, I am going to do a Kalendarium of Scottish Saints, to document and encourage devotion to the many forgotten Saints of Scotland 🏴
In other words, Yousaf announces plans to abdicate the power of parliament to determine highly contested political matters, so that they can instead be determined by privately funded litigants and judges with no political accountability.
Humza Yousaf announcing proposals for a written constitution for an independent scotland - including protections for the NHS, the right to strike, and the removal of nuclear weapons.
Headed to confession on my lunch break. I thought I’d get there early, perhaps with 2 or 3 folks ahead of me in the queue.
There were 45 people in the queue.
I just can’t understand why the Holy See would want to ban this. Everyone in this Church must have been moved by this sublime liturgy - whether devotee or passerby.
If Ireland manages to legislate for tax exemptions for conscientious objectors, it would be wise for the UK to follow suit too. No person (religious or non) should be obliged to fund a practice like abortion, which is so morally and ethically dubious.
I've been thinking about conscientious objection. I will not pay for the killing of Ireland's unborn children, I cannot be a party to it. So there will need to be a way to exempt conscientious objectors taxes from paying for them in any way, shape or form.
There are lots of tweets going around on Catholic twitter trying to frame marriage as a mere “choice”, rather than a vocation.
Let’s be clear. People are called to marriage. Marriage does have purely natural ends, but the natural ends are subordinate to its supernatural ends.

Grace is not a feeling. Prayer isn’t always warm and fuzzy; it can be exhausting and painful. Don’t be dependent on emotions or feelings.
Mental prayer will often be difficult when you feel cold, tired, dejected. But His grace is still working in you and He is pleased with you.
I grew up in care.
You do encounter good, wholesome people like this - people who will go the extra 500 miles for you. But there are not nearly enough of them.
If you have what it takes, please consider becoming a foster parent. I would not be where I am now without mine.
Our legal challenge against the Glasgow Uni SRC has been successful, following a complaint that they violated s.101 of the Equality Act by discriminating against pro-life students because of their philosophical beliefs.
A victory for academic freedom.

‘St Andrew now in bliss above,
thy fervent prayers renew
that Scotland yet again may love
the faith, entire and true;
that I the cross allotted me
may bear with patient love! ‘
Twill lift me, as it lifted thee,
to reign with Christ above.’

The original statue of Our Lady of Aberdeen, here in Brussels. The statue was smuggled here during the violent Scottish Reformation and brought to safe refuge in Brussels. May she intercede for Scotland and place her mantle of protection over us!
This is the key error of positivism in legal practice: that the Rule of Law depends solely on judicial promulgation - without regard to reason, justice, or the common good.
The idea of the home altar became very important to me during the pandemic, as a way of maintaining a rhythm of Christian prayer with flatmates and friends when we had no access to the sacraments.
Now, it is a daily part of our family life.
We started a parish schola in Falkirk in September. In just under two months we are singing polyphony from composers like Victoria, Allegri. Amazing stuff.
You don’t need to be a big cathedral choir to produce good quality liturgical music. It just takes dedication and practice.
Disappointed that some parishes in Scotland still have major COVID brain. Was refused Holy Communion this morning because I would not take it on the hand. I fail to see why such a policy is necessary when reception on the tongue is perfectly safe with proper sanitisation.
I’m afraid my mother was either severely ill or deceased for most of it, jason, so foster care was my only resort. Life in care is not always a bed of roses, but it comes with many consolations and good people who want to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children.
You spent your childhood in foster care lmfao. What the fuck does that say about the people who are “pro-LiFe”? Where the fuck were they when your ass was living with 20 other kids.

Scottish Independence is only a means to an end. After that, we restore the Lordship of the Isles and sever all ties with Edinburgh, restoring the benevolent reign of the MacDonalds over the Western Isles.
This morning I randomly bumped into the Secretary of Cardinal Robert Sarah in the south side of Glasgow and he gave me a set of rosaries especially blessed by the Cardinal. Neat!!
The comments under this tweet are appalling. Politician tweets a prayer for the soul of his friend, colleague, and brother - and he gets hate in return.
A nifty little Roman Law maxim I came across this morning:
Vigilantibus non dormientibus jura subveniunt
“The law assists those that are vigilant with their rights, not those that sleep on them”
