We were both at Moody Bible Institute in the early 2010s. Brandon was exceedingly talented in theology, but didn’t believe any of it. His apostasy is saddening and destructive to the witness of Christ.
“[Tim] in the PCA was a little bit like Gandalf in the Shire,” Duncan added. “We think he’s just a guy that does fireworks at birthday parties, when he’s actually out there in the world slaying dragons and taking on evil wizards.”
God has graciously called me to be the next pastor of Providence Presbyterian Church in Troy, IL. Lord willing, we move onto the field at the end of the month. Pray for us as we transition from FPC to PPC.
Health Update: Today, Dad is being discharged from the hospital to receive hospice care at home. Over the past few days, he has asked us to pray with him often. He expressed many times through prayer his desire to go home to be with Jesus. His family is very sad because we... 1/3
The PCA is the only reformed denomination without a constitutionally binding Directory of Worship. May we come together as presbyterians to rectify this anomaly. What say ye?
The PCA is neither dead nor dying. Don't believe everything you hear on the internet. We have more accurate data than random pollsters. From Bryan Chappell's Stated Clerk's Report:

The assembly’s first sermon is by TE Randy Thompson. I served as Randy’s Assistant Pastor for almost 4 years in Alabama. He’s an incredible preacher and pastor. He is preaching an incredibly appropriate sermon from Lamentations 3. He is without a doubt one of our greats.

PCUSA Polity committee set to take up an overture this morning that would ban any Christian holding to a traditional understanding of sexuality from seeking ordination in the denomination.
Tim Keller is better and clearer on sin/temptation than Doug Wilson. One inadvertently supports side-b Christianity. And you’d be surprised to find out it isn’t Keller.
A phenomenon at my church: all the middle school and high school boys started wearing suits on Sunday for worship. It’s a refreshing trend and pastor approved.
I’m uncomfortable with pastors that after being disciplined for various reasons resume their mantle of influence like nothing happened. Not good for the church.
PCA BCO Amendments Update: It’s clear that both overture 23 and overture 37 have FAILED to pass at the presbytery level. BCO amendments required at least 2/3 approval out of our 88 presbyteries. It’s clear that neither will pass that threshold. Neither will be considered at GA.
PSA: can we all agree to stop calling folks in the PCA liberal or fundamentalist? Both terms are used as pejoratives and only create more distrust within our current debate.
Ordinary mean of grace ministry is why I serve as a pastor in the PCA. No gimmicks, just pure and true religious expression. You can transport reformed Christianity to the ends of the earth. All you need is the Word, water, bread, and wine.
Happy Birthday to the Presbyterian Church in America. 50 years of being faithful to the Scriptures, true to the reformed faith, and obedient to the great commission.
Losing two father's of the faith in the PCA within 24 hours is painful. As the PCA celebrates a year of hopeful Jubilee, it is accompanied with much pain and sorrow (Covenant School, Reeder, Keller). May God's peace be found in moments like this (Phil 4:6-7).
Honored by the shoutout in

tribute music is starting to drop in preparation for this historic celebration. I look forward to hearing it live at the PCA 50th Anniversary Concert. Here’s your exclusive sneak peak:
Today is my 4th anniversary of being ordained to Gospel ministry. This day remains more dear to my heart than my own birthday. It’s an honor to minister in the Presbyterian Church in America.
Illiana Presbytery has successfully petitioned the state governments of Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky to condemn the practice of surgical and medical gender reassignment, especially of minors.
For anyone wondering, I’ve received a background check in every pca ministry that has hired me. From being an intern of two different churches and a pastor of two different congregations. From my experience, a majority of churches do this simple work in the pca.
Here are 38 of the most popular worship songs according to CCLI. American Christians are basically only singing songs from 4 churches. There has never been a better case for a hymnal. We must do better.
The Majority Report prevails in the CRCNA Synod by a vote of 129-54-3. This is a new day for the CRCNA. May the Lord bless them in their endeavors to be faithful to Christ.
@fredgreco
Here is the majority report. It basically causes churches in protest (lgbt affirming) to enter the process of discipline and to begin the process of exiting the denomination.

My second congregational meeting at the pastor of Providence Presbyterian Church is complete! We also had the Lord’s Supper today and two baptisms with professions of faith. Satan took the L today,
The 50th General Assembly is approaching quickly. It's time for commissioners to study the business of the assembly.
@brothernelson
and I put together a prep guide to help commissioners familiarize themselves with the 29 overtures sent to the GA.

I really appreciate Illiana Presbytery. We are a small and modest presbytery. Most of our churches are under 100. This means the work of presbytery is done with almost no politics. Men are often swayed by healthy debate. It's been a refreshing and toxic free experience.
Reading that Dr. Cara of

The 51st GA has concluded and it might be one of my favorites. My wife and I got to spend a lot of time together while doing the business of the church. First time we’ve been away from the kiddos together for 5 years.

Heavy Metal 🧵: During the 2000's and early 2010’s, it was cool to be in a "Christian" metal band. Most of my early doctrine came from the Christian Metalcore scene. Some of it good and some of it awful. I have wondered what happened to these bands. Here are my findings:

I want to commend
@trevorilaurence
for his speech in favor of the minority report on Overture 1. It was well reasoned and masterfully delivered. Somuchso, after that speech, I believed the minority would prevail.

. I continue to cherish that day like my birthday. I love this denomination and couldn’t imagine doing anything else with my life.
In the next 10-15 years, Lord willing, the PCA will overtake the mainline PCUSA as the largest presbyterian denomination in the United Stated of America. The liberal Neo-orthodoxy of the mainline has only produced death and decline in the last 50 years.

What on earth are
@_BenRatliff
and I working on? Does polity even matter to the life of the church? Why do presbyterians do what they do? I guess you'll have to stay tuned as we launch a project for the polity-curious folks out there.
#politymatters
How many sermons did you preach this year? I preached 47 sermons in the year of 2023. Maybe when we add an evening service I can join the old guard who preach 90 times a year.
I’m preaching at First Church PCA in Illinois. I haven’t stood in this pulpit since June 12, 2016 (the day before I moved to RTS-JXN). This church helped guide me into the ministry and was the place I met my wife. A historically Dutch congregation that moved into the PCA in 2014.
Idk about the other two guys, but you do not want to miss the Rev. Randy E Thompson. He is one of the most gifted preachers in the PCA. What a treat for our 50th General Assembly.
We need Guy Waters to write a modernized version of "The Church of Christ" by James Bannerman. We need a 1000 pages on biblical church government. The modern church is starved of good ecclesiology and polity. Maybe
@LigonDuncan
and
@RTSJackson
can help get this going.
The 48th GA is special to me for two reasons: 1) it was my first GA as a commissioner. 2) I left early to meet my newborn son. I probably won't ever buy another set of minutes, but this set will sit on my reference shelf as a reminder of God's care for me in the ministry.
Pray for the Christian Reformed Church. They are going to have an intense General Synod. Last year's synod rocked the boat by confessionally declaring homosexual sex as violating Heidelberg Catechism Q108.
What I’m excited for about this GA:
1. Spending time with friends.
2. Serving on Overtures.
3. Bringing my wife to GA.
4. Debating issues regarding worship.
5. Debating issues on the Rules of Discipline.
6. Being considered for a permanent committee.
7. Hearing
@fredgreco
preach.
This is likely not a surprise to anyone. Memorial Presbyterian Church has been the center of controversy for around 5 years in the PCA. This congregation will now have a congressional vote to leave the PCA.
Watching the PCUSA GA this week was a huge black pill. Very little talk about the salvific nature of Christ and the gospel. The gospel of the mainline seems to be affirming inclusion. I know some hope to reclaim the mainline, but it’s never been in a worst state than it is today.
RIP Side B christianity. No PCA minister in good standing should continue to support this movement. It is good for the peace and PURITY of the church to expel this doctrine from us. The continued unraveling of this movement is to the chagrin of those who once championed them.
@escslb15
She was last seen opining that maybe transgender surgery is totally fine with Catholic teaching actually. Truly shocking, who could have predicted?
Bryan Chapell provides a coherent statement to Fox News on Overture 12 which seeks to petition the federal government to protect children from gender transition surgeries.
Two years ago today, I was ordained for gospel ministry at FPC-Tuscumbia. I agree with
@CharlieWingard
when he said, "my ordination date is more important to me than my Birthday."
This summer at Providence Presbyterian Church, we will not be hosting any uncomfortable sermon series on being at the movies. That's our draw this summer. We won't put you through that.
Today marks my one year anniversary at Providence Presbyterian. The Lord has been kind to us as we’ve experienced a year of growth, peace, and stability.

As a pastor, please bring your children to worship with you. They need to worship the triune God just as much as you do. Do not neglect them by denying them this privileged opportunity. They need to hear the preaching of the Word. They need to learn the songs. They need to pray.

The best church’s are intentional with their kids ministry
& it’s the best place for the kids to be
Hearing the word with their peers & having fun while doing it
Sitting in a Chruch seat listening to an old man is not fun for kids
Y’all never been a kid?!
I had the honor of serving this congregation for about 4 years under Randy Thompson. A delightful congregation. Randy will be retire within the next month after 20 years of service to this congregation (around 40 years of service to the denomination).
On April 21, First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia, Alabama, celebrated its 200th anniversary. The church was founded in 1824 with 13 members. More than 300 people attended the anniversary celebration.

Spanking is not by definition abuse. Nor is it necessarily cruel. It is a form a physical training. In many arenas, physical pain is necessary for growth (sports, combat, life skills), and this is distinct from inflicting violence upon people. I leave it at that. Peace.
We had nominations for committees of commissioners (CoC) today. I was appointed to serve on the CoC for Administration. My mentor in Seminary,
@CharlieWingard
, taught us to serve the church, presbytery, and denomination. We have duties in each. The Church needs churchman.
A sneak peak at our progress on THE PCA Spreadsheet. Feedback?
Current known issue:
-Hyperlinking within the spreadsheet is incredibly buggy. It might be axed all together. I cannot get that working consistently.

🚨PSA: Jesus could not have sinned in the wilderness with the devil. Jesus not only defeated the devil in the wilderness, he was unable to be overcome by the devil in the wilderness. Even in his vulnerable state, he could not fail. Yes, Christ was impeccable.
