Nothing too formal save for the work of @JustinShubow, but the fallback attitudes among some of the intellectual set could be the following: There would be some mix of libertarian anti-zoning politics (reasonable given the shortage of cheap housing for young couples), an aesthetic preference for Americana like art deco and googie as much as for neoclassical in public buildings, plus a neo-traditionalist critique of modern architecture's history. Most would not be reading or even heard of Leon Krier, but many would be familiar with Tom Wolfe's From Bauhaus to Our House, and retain points made in Roger Scruton's work. Also a very select few might have been exposed to Phillip Bess' Till We Have Built Jerusalem, that grounds building beautifully in biblical theology.

"Don’t we—and shouldn’t we—have higher loyalties than political duty? What about truth? Or Truth Himself? Instead of saying we are “America First,” should we say we are a “Republic of Letters First”? "What about the other societies we belong to, from the family and local community to the Church? All these things have their due; yet all depend upon the political, without which no republic of letters can be kept." @pleonidasp writing for @Athwart_Mag on Aristotle and America (

"Advantage for Aristotle does not exclude justice—the focus of forensic rhetoric—or nobility—the focus of ceremonial rhetoric—but takes rightful precedence over them. "Justice assumes advantage (being good is good for us), and nobility is manifest in its earnest and effective pursuit. "Thus he writes: 'the good of the individual by himself is certainly desirable enough, but that of a nation and of cities is nobler and more divine.'" @pleonidasp for @Athwart_Mag on "Aristotle's Case for America First" (.
