surreal to see your team’s work on the front page of nature, the nyt. extremely honored to have played a small role in sharing this enormous resource with the world 🙏
@0interestrates
I don't think he really operates that way. He doesn't view his job as telling people what's going to be huge, he is explicitly focused on the here and now, what you will physically get and experience if you go to the store today and buy the product he's talking about
@omarhustla
@Dexerto
his company has dozens (hundreds?) of employees. if he gets hit by a bus, the company goes under. if the company can keep putting out his videos for a year after, those employees aren’t suddenly out of work
@ctjlewis
Bartending a busy nightclub is a savage job, and those people often only work like 15 hours at that place. I think the union knew this was not gonna happen but intended to negotiate it. But the owners were like eh, easier to just end the negotiations and blame the union
@SnazzyQ
Hmm i dunno Quinn, I think I'm gonna have to see a more samples to make a decision. Of the same cat. In various scenes. And perhaps outfits. For science.
@ask_aubry
"My 'I do not view my wife & daughter as servants who are beneath me' shirt has people asking a lot of questions already answered by my shirt"
@gatorsafterdark
I love that people in NYC complain about this. 1 hour the absolute maximum time you need to get anywhere at all, in the greatest city on earth, for like $5, without owning a car. I need to move so badly
@DurvidImel
this copy is talking about the experience on Android (which is weird), but this is also an iOS 16 feature! - In MMS groupchats tapbacks from other iOS users also render properly
@d_feldman
It means the lag between changes in the outside world being reflected in passthrough display is 12ms. I don’t think it makes any sense to quantify it any other way. the display can refresh faster than 83hz.
@jsngr
How much is it really being guided by the drawing? Buttons are not in the same place, plenty of buttons not drawn are there. Great idea and I think it will work but I’m dubious of this demo
@mysp0tlessmind
well kinda. cherries existed, but tasted bad and were moistly pit, until humans selectively bred the best ones to make these. so it's not all nature, not all humans, but a delightful collaboration :)
@KuterDinel
@0xjprx
Yeah. I’ve yet to see this confirmed, but I believe the R1 is a complete SOC running an independent real-time OS, for this exact reason
@EthanLipnik
i think normal people actually have a sense that this is converging. they are used to using usbc on macbooks, they generally know all androids use the same charger. last port change on iphone was what, a decade ago? i don’t think people feel like it keeps changing.
@p8stie
I…
Wake up (with my cat)
Normal messy apartment (due to cat)
Coffee (and feed cat)
30 minute commute (talk on the phone with my cat)
Do work (work hard to give my cat a good life)
Lunch with coworkers (talk about my cat)
Meeting with annoying dog manager
Go home
Cat
Problem?
@willmacaskill
Will I think this is a great article, but I also think it is risky to share this quote out of context (even with the punchline in the follow up tweet)
@0ddette
Philosophy majors are really good at inventing interesting reasons for doing the things they want to do for normal boring reasons, and convincing themselves those are the real reasons. More power to him tho 💪

@ParkerOrtolani
that’s the thing about 3D touch, it *wasnt* a long press, if you knew about it (BIG if) you could activate it quickly and reliably, iirc. problem was no one knew about it lol
@ctjlewis
most people assigning a number p doom do not think about probability this way! it’s a measurement of belief, not how much a thing has happened. yes its a made up number, but it’s a useful way to communicate how much you believe a thing might happen
@austinc3301
i asked my mom, who is a huge sci fi fan of many years and she said:
“The updated Lost in Space;
Firefly; the Orville (satire, but good); Sliders; Eureka; Babylon 5; Orphan Black; Fringe;”
i absolutely also endorse Firefly, Sliders, Eureka and Fringe!

this is the document which I happened upon like 15 years ago at age 12 after googling "how to be a hacker" and has largely shaped the trajectory of my life to this day. Probably the most influential single web page I have ever read

not the poster, but i think it’s like from the FBI’s rules on infiltrating and interfering in socialist organizations? something like that
