One of our students got a single GCSE today, her only entry. Maths at grade 1.
She’s got an inoperable brain tumour & has been through weeks of radiotherapy which she asked to have a 8am every day so she could still come into school.
That 1 is worth 10 grade 9s to us ❤️
A northern, working class, teenage mum who left school with no qualifications but worked her socks off to educate herself, improve her lot & the lives of others has just become Deputy Prime Minister.
If that isn’t one of the greatest things to ever happen, I don’t know what is.
@DebsL64
I’m so proud of her. Her tumour has affected her speech & her mobility but she’s battled on this year. The oncology nurse told us we wouldn’t see her much because the radiotherapy would knock her out.
She came every single day. She could teach plenty of others a lesson.

That’s the craziest thing I’ve read in a long time. Cameron called the referendum to appease the Euro-skeptics in the Tory party worrying that their votes would go to UKIP. He thought Remain would win. He screwed up & ran away. It’s all on him.

I’m a teacher in alternative provision so was in school every day as our students were not working remotely. We couldn’t even use our staff room then, we had to sit 2m apart in our hall. Drinking alcohol on site would be a disciplinary matter. We’re held to higher standards.
#KevinSinfield
was a thorn in our side when he played (apart from Cardiff 2003 😉) and I couldn’t stand him, the ‘Sir Kev’ moniker irritated. But ‘in real life’ he is the man I’d want on my side, I absolutely love him & everything he stands for.
I’m proud to be a rugby league fan, we’ve always been an inclusive sport. We had the first black captain of a British team in any sport. There’s no place for racists in our family. Not now, not ever.
I can’t believe anyone who pays a mortgage, shops in the supermarket, uses the NHS, sends their children to a state school, walks down their local high street full of boarded up shops & thinks, I’ll vote Tory because this is what my country needs more of.

It’s basically saying ‘well done for being lucky enough to avoid leukaemia or a brain tumour this year’. I teach children with medical needs. Sometimes they die. They failed to get 100% attendance that year.

Interesting that on the media round this morning, you singled out Pakistani men when studies show that most group based abuse is perpetrated by white people. Why did you do that?

I’m a Labour Party member, just an ordinary, hardworking public sector wkr desperate for a return to a more equitable society. If they can change allegiance like that, in no way can they ever have shared my beliefs & ideology. Please don’t pretend to be on the side of ppl like me
This isn’t a rugby league problem, it’s a societal problem. People think they have the right to abuse those that make a decision that they disagree with. Happens on the roads, in shops, in classrooms, hospital departments, everywhere. Entitled morons who think they know best.
Just look at the actual state of this. Look at the abuse referee James Child gets. The contorted faces of rage spouting bile. Look at the bloke who arrives at the end. What an image for “the family game”.... 99% of fans are brilliant. We don’t need fans like this thanks.

My problem is the number of people like you posting this ridiculous nostalgia porn making out that life was great then & because you survived it we all should stop being snowflakes. It’s performative and it’s pathetic, it’s not the 1950s, our lives are better now.

Defending a child abuser isn’t a good look.
In the U.K. 17 is a child in the eyes of the law. Forced sex is rape.
If true, he raped a child.
I hope you don’t have children with views like yours.

Who do you think makes up ‘the unions’? You’re a disingenuous liar, you did nothing as Education Secretary & now we know why. The contempt in which you hold the profession is no longer hidden behind vacuous statements.

Excellent news. Those 100 MPs have just demonstrated their absolute lack of integrity backing a man that was forced to resign only 3 months ago. An absolute open goal for the opposition.
The woman who proposed starving the Irish & has to resign because she broke the ministerial code? It’s really going to be a cabinet of all the talents 🙄

Our country IS built on the back of slaves. The slave trade funded the industrial revolution. A major part of our wealth after that came from the Lancashire cotton industry, cotton picked by slaves. It’s not about ‘guilt’ it’s about recognition.

I work in a PRU for children with medical needs. None of our children can ever achieve 100% attendance.
We call mainstream attendance awards ‘Well done for not getting Leukaemia this year’ awards.
I’ve shown my appreciation for public sector workers for over 30 years at the ballot box. Clapping makes zero difference & I’ve found it quite awkward thus far.

How many union flags were in the 2019 Conservative manifesto?
I’ll give you a clue, it’s fewer than 1.
You people are embarrassing this country with your faux patriotism. Pride isn’t in flags & symbols. It’s how we treat our citizens. You’re failing.
So bored of the ‘but Toronto/Toulouse/Catalans/Ottawa/NY won’t bring any way fans’ argument.
Work as hard as you can to get your OWN fans through the gates & fill your stadium. Make your grounds partisan & loud. Away fans are a bonus, nothing more.

Thank you James for seeing us & articulating how we feel. We’re on our knees in the public sector, expected to do more & more with fewer resources year on year & our reward is a pay cut & declining mental health. Enough is enough.

Unions are needed more than ever. Not sure what you do for a job but I’m certain you’ll take any increase or benefit provided by your employer that was the result of union action.
Unions are literally ‘people standing up for themselves’, they just LOTS of ppl doing it together.

As someone who works in a hospital school, I will never not be disappointed about mainstream schools’ attitude towards attendance for children with medical needs. I hate the 100% attendance awards. Basically saying ‘well done for avoiding leukaemia again this year’.
Sometimes in my job I have the privilege of working at home with children at the end of their lives. Have just been to say goodbye to the beautiful little girl I’ve been working with for the last few months as she is no longer well enough for my visits.
Said a final farewell to my lovely dad today. A day of tears but also laughter remembering just what a brilliant, funny man he was. People took home some flowers from the beautiful arrangement from the service & I hope they make them smile when they remember him ❤️
