I want to post the short clip from 13th on the “good old days” trump rally speech but don’t want to wrongfully reproduce content. I just re-watched this incredible & painfully continuously timely doc & remembered the speech scene from 1hr20-1:22...mass circulate?

one of my fav things to do when I’m home is explore the boxes of my mom’s photography of 70’s Iran; lots of her work focused on doc. poverty & workers rights in the poorer parts of Tehran & rural outskirts; really want to digitize her work & make a book, deserves to be shared 🎞
Like many other Iranians, I have been glued to the news coming from the streets all around the country. And feeling to my core the sentiment of so many women that "this could have been me." The opening lines of my personal statement to NYU was exactly on this.

One of my former students & RAs just emailed me a draft of her undergraduate honors thesis and in her email said "I'm sure that if you read it you'll be able to see some inspiration from your own work in it, so thank you for that as well :)" - and that just gives me so much joy

I've started to take MIT's open-course documentary photography and photojournalism class in the evenings to try to keep building up this side passion and escape a bit from my research after the workday...and it seems I cannot escape
Wow someone actually contacted me asking if I could provide prints of my photography -- I never thought anyone would actually ask and I could cry a little of happiness :') What good motivational timing too, trying very hard to not let this creative side passion fade

Really NYT? This is chosen headline & article title? Rather than reporting *at all* on the mass mobilization of the Iranian diaspora in over 150 cities on Saturday or the brutal abduction & attack on university students yesterday - which is referenced, but is not front & center?!
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Monday accused the U.S. and Israel of stirring up the unrest in his country and voiced support for the crackdown on protesters, suggesting authorities are prepared to double down.

this tragedy hits close to home - the Palestinian family massacred by Israeli airstrikes was the extended family of my very close friends' friend. Hurting for them, for the diaspora & for Palestinians living under fear of targeted strikes & constant state-backed settler violence
In a matter of hours, the IDF killed four generations of one Palestinian family in Gaza — the oldest was 90, the youngest was 6 months.
The outright massacre in Palestine is a human right catastrophe, one that we must immediately stop funding.

meeting a hero. I still have saved a Google chat with my sister after I met him recounting the experience - one which remains so vivid in my memory. Thank you, Dr. Farmer for everything you have done in your lifetime - one that has been cut too short. May you rest in peace.
In all seriousness, I could not have asked for a better set of mentors to guide and advise me throughout this journey and it has been an immense privilege to absorb their knowledge, expertise, and wisdom over the years. I just hope to emulate them & pay it forward in the future.

I heard Venmo was blocking transactions for Palestinian causes. So I tested it out. Tried to send a friend $80 for “Palestinian relief funds.” A pop-up said connection with my bank was lost. I changed it to “phone”: $ went ok. Tried it again with $20: blocked!

It’s time to start taking the immense mental health crisis - among graduate students, professors, and society at large - very seriously and talk about it openly. Rest In Peace to a giant. This is so devastating.
Devastated to hear that Alan Krueger’s death was a suicide. What a sad and powerful reminder that mental ill-health can affect anyone and objective measures of success often have little to do with subjective perceptions and mental health.
