It's irrelevant legally, but it's relevant morally. Without popular Palestinian support this war would never have happened.

@RichardHanania Why not put the buffer zone on the Israeli side of the current boundary? The cost is permanently relocating some small Israeli communities. The benefit is that everyone would agree it’s legal, and also maybe civilians shouldn’t be living within 1–2km of an enemy country anyway.

I agree with @phl43 , but not like this! Morality is important; it’s not “might makes right”. There are legitimate and illegitimate claims to statehood. But legitimacy isn’t grounded in any universal norm like “right to self-determination”. It’s grounded in particular facts.
