Thank you for this! We are "good enough" to train residents but often overlooked as resident applicants.
It starts with interviewing more DOs!
Some programs won't interview DOs to avoid "DO labeling." If an MD applicant thinks negatively of training with a DO, well...🚩🚩🚩
Anti-DO bias real.
I call upon Urology programs and PDs to consider this and NOT discard those applications!
DOs/MDs share the same combined residency programs through the ACGME.

Agree that grown adults should be able to decide. I've performed vasectomies on young men, without kids who were turned away by other urologists. Medicaid men also must wait 30 days before vasectomy approval. Non Medicaid men don't require 30 days usually.

And it's best to avoid posting intraop/same day photos, which reduces privacy, esp if a resident is "doing" the case. Save it for another day. Plus, it gives you some time to think if it's REALLY worth posting. Don't email when angry & don't tweet when you're *overly* excited 💁🏾

Nailed it. I would heavily counsel this patient out of surgery and have him seek confirmatory 2nd op. However, folks undergo arguably unnecessary, body altering surgery all the time, without judgement. There's a fine balance between counseling and paternalism.

Agree w others (bilateral mesh, neobladder etc) but also prefer this approach in the flat belly/muscular, weight lifter/highly active group to minimize palpability and hernia risk. Also, it's a great way to teach novice trainees.

Not just pcps, urologists are often the only docs some men see and we identify and should not fear prescribing SSRIs when appropriate, with psychiatry follow-up. Have done so and will continue.

Hey! Back pain radiating into glute/leg, = MRI lumbar spine WO gad. I deal with disc issues and over time have been educated by my docs. Scrotal pain is a rare finding with lumbar disc disease as it would require L1 L2 involvement which is not common (L4,5,S1 = 90% of cases).
