After you get past the learning curve, sticking to native design and SwiftUI almost feels like cheating.

Yesterday, I released Nimble to a handful of early testers. 🎉
I allowed anyone to download it, but I only made a few license keys available at this early stage.
I didnt expect people who missed out on a license key to just go and buy one. 😅

They should have followed Raycast’s example and made Arc Max a subscription. They attracted a core user base from design alone and the AI stuff should have been the business model. Beyond this they have to be thinking about an Arc OS.

I've learned a lot already, this is what the design turns into if I don't fight the system defaults and unspoken rules Apple enforces with their design system for Mac.

Nimble’s “command+K” bar has some incredibly powerful commands.
For example you can stage, commit, and push all changes like this:

Setting min widths and structuring the toolbar in the right way means that when you resize the window it automatically hides your overflow toolbar buttons in a menu and also collapses the sidebar.

3 things that took hours to do but now would take me 10 minutes:
1. The toolbar has a max height, don't try and change it. 🥲
2. Use relative paths when referencing folders in the system. 🫠
3. Elements in the Mac design system will ignore your styles, like the Picker. 😡

The first test version of Nimble is quite feature complete but it requires you to already have git set up on your Mac. I hope to allow Nimble to do this for you in future! (With GitHub integration too) 🙂

Instead, Swift Playgrounds will evolve into a visual app builder that allows you to create and launch apps with minimal code.
It will make great use of the pencil & touch.
