Dear Baroness

Thank you for writing to Daniel Kawczynski MP about the North West Relief Road in
#Shrewsbury
. You say the NWRR will go ahead unless the case has significantly changed. What would constitute a significant change in your view? For example... 1/12
48,000t/CO2 to build this monstrosity for an annual operational saving of 359t/CO2.
~130 years to be 'net zero'. The children of Shropshire will never forgive us if it gets built.

Great protest outside Shirehall today. People from Oswestry to Ludlow against this £200m Kawczynski Folly. The MP for
#Shrewsbury
has rarely been right about anything and this road he wants is part of it. Photo credit: PhilB

On the day Shropshire Council announced millions of pounds worth of cuts, it also voted through a £200m road that it doesn't know how to pay for, could destroy
#Shrewsbury
's water supply, & will lead to a costly legal challenge... No wonder the Grim Reaper was at Shirehall!
"Shropshire Council has told housebuilder Redrow Homes Limited that the company will not have to include an environmental impact assessment in any forthcoming planning application." 🤔
But if you walk peacefully down the road to raise the alarm about climate crisis for 15 minutes with
@JustStop_Oil
, you get remanded to court and ankle tagged... 🙄
@transportgovuk
What about those without cars? In
#Shrewsbury
, a town of around 70,000 you can't even get a bus on a Sunday to go shopping and cycling anywhere involves risking life and limb. Around 25% (!!!!) of households in Shropshire don't own a car.

Millions of people set to die across the global south due to our emissions. Maybe Laura would like to tell us how much their lives are worth per head? Always helpful to know what the price ceiling on basic morality is...
OMG 😱🤦♂️Yesterday Shropshire Tories voted AGAINST a motion for footpaths to be safe for children, the elderly & the disabled. Lib Dem

Hi

👋In
#Shrewsbury
we're fighting to stop a "relief road" that will devastate veteran trees including the 550 year old Darwin Oak. 75,000 people have already signed this petition. Can you help us get it to 100k with a RT? Thank you! 🌳🙏
Come to
#Shrewsbury
where our council is building a road on a SPZ1 groundwater source (insanity!) To prevent runoff it requires a bespoke leakproof drainage system for the road's lifespan. One mistake and 70k people lose access to their drinking water forever 🚱😬
@JonahFisherBBC
It was great to see a piece about pollution from road runoff on the BBC News this morning. Thanks to
@JonahFisherBBC
for highlighting this problem for all of us that are fighting to reduce river pollution.
Took mum to see the 550 year old Darwin Oak in
#Shrewsbury
. A lifelong Tory voter (🙄), she couldn't believe the Conservatives would destroy such a magnificent tree. Then I told her about the risk to her drinking water...😱

The River Severn in Shrewsbury will be formally declared as a Bathing Water Site. Excellent news for our community. Regular monitoring will ensure bathers have up-to-date information about the quality of the water and enable action to be taken if standards are not being met. 🏊♂️

Some fantastic objections against the
#Shrewsbury
North West Relief Road appearing on the planning portal. How can a council that declared a
#ClimateEmergency
justify building a new road that won't be carbon neutral for 130+ years and will devastate trees and wildlife habitats?
Reasons NOT to build the NWRR:
🔥130 years to be net zero
🚱Drinking water supply at risk
🌳1000 trees lost inc 550 yr old Darwin Oak
📉Council bankruptcy
Reasons to build the NWRR:
🏡Property developers will get rich

Saturday 29 January is a national day of action against disastrous new road projects. If you're in

Insane to see a council ignoring the advice of the

now floods annually due to the climate crisis. People can't get across town. Residents have to leave their homes. Businesses are ruined. Lives disrupted.
Your response? Building a new road that won't be net zero for 130 YEARS!
We know who the real criminals are...
🧵1/3 Current situation in Shropshire... Council forcing the North West Relief Road to planning on 18 July, even though the Environment Agency and Severn Trent Water warn that building the road could WRECK the town's drinking water supply FOREVER 🚱😲
Would the fact that the road was presented to the public as 'carbon saving' but is now revealed to be a net emitter of CO2 until the year 2155 count as a significant change? It will create 48000t/CO2 for a 359t/CO2 annual operational saving 2/12
Another Shropshire planning application where
❌ evidence is scarce
❌ there's big ecological danger
❌ developers offer sweeteners
❌ traffic will increase

An FOI reveals the North West Relief Road doesn't have a project board. There is an Exec Board, but it doesn't bother with minutes 🧐 The DfT is giving this £200m+ pound project a BLANK CHEQUE via HS2 funds 😱
Can someone please ask why?

"Campaigners launch legal challenge against UK road-building plan... The campaigners have hired the same legal team that won a legal challenge on environmental grounds against Heathrow airport’s plans for a third runway earlier year."
All kicking off at Shropshire Council. Councillors asked to approve an unexpected £95m of capital funding for the NWRR. Amazing speech from
@JBuckleyLabour
She says this is being pushed through with no info and will mean £5m in interest payments EVERY YEAR from revenue… 1/x
Shropshire Council leader

says "the cupboard is bare" and we need to choose between roads and social care... Maybe cancel the NWR, save ~£50m, and invest in cycling and social care?
