“Go and make your film” is all well and good when it’s a short. But could you imagine the debuts of Rye Lane or Scrapper being made for a couple thousand pound? What a waste it would be. There’s a reason why people wait for the right funding and resources.

I’ll never forget my first time. I left my house to go school & it was cold. I put my hood of my coat up. A gang of undercover police swarmed to search me.
I was only 100ft from my front door.
I asked why. They said because I put my hood up when I saw them.
I was 12 years old.
Black People 9x more likely to be stopped & searched, more likely to be held on remand & up to 240% more likely to get a custody sentence for drug offences.

First written in 2016 a few years after my 5yo niece got diagnosed with Leukaemia.
They gave our beautiful little girl 18 months to live 😪
BUT, she fought it, she beat it and now she’s in her teens. Praise God.

Filmmakers, don’t waste your debut feature. Find the right collaborators, create valuable relationships in the industry & don’t compromise on your vision. If your feature costs a million to make, it might take 10 years, but it’s better than compromising & making it for 20k

Ravenna asked me at the start of the year if there’s any time to do passion project whilst at film school and I said from my experience, absolutely not. This is why you shouldn’t listen to peoples advice. Ravenna’s work ethic is beyond anyone’s I’ve ever met.
I've been absolute rubbish at promoting myself this year as I've taken time to rest, but I've almost completed 4 short films that I've directed, lensed 4 others, shot my first feature, commercial, and worked in 3 countries while doing my masters. I can't wait to show the work.

I thought I was a decent enough writer until I started writing this horror film. It made me realise how comfortable I’ve gotten in writing drama. Writing good horror is difficult. It’s taken me 15 tedious redrafts but I’m happy. We go into production in 5 weeks. Pray for me 🙏🏽

If everyone is paid equity/union minimum, then yes, it costs that much to make a short.
Cast/crew wages make up for about 50% of the budget. If they work unpaid, which happens in most cases, film budgets can be circa $25,000 / £18,000
