I told myself that if I ever quit this place, I'd just be done with social media. But, as excuses for using this terrible platform run out, I'd be lying if I said the pull of the scroll wasn't still too strong. To that end, I've done what I vowed not to:
Koko the gorilla once ripped a sink out of the wall and, when her keepers confronted her about it, she blamed her kitten, signing "cat did it." That HAD been my favorite Koko story, until I saw this:
RIP to an absolute legend
Feminism has gone too far. Men have been pushed to the brink of becoming nervous & considerate on their first dates. I'm so sorry for my hand in this dystopia.
Getting vaccinated is NOT a license to host large parties or lure your friend Fortunado into your wine cellar with promises of a sample of rare vintage Amontillado. It does NOT give your permission to wall him into a niche in your catacombs as revenge for an unspecified slight.
It's not Global Warming, Donald, it's Global Climate Change.
You see, It's not just that temperatures are rising, but that the weather, like your mood, is increasingly erratic & extreme.
In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record. Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against. Bundle up!
Sending love to anyone who had to put on someone else's clothes & agree to answer to a name that isn't theirs in order to go home today. Sending love, as well, to everyone who isn't welcome home because they refuse to do so.
Cis friends, can you do me a favor? Stop saying "trans people weren't on anyone's radar 10 years ago." I was out as trans 10 years ago. We were on people's radars. Maybe not yours. And that's okay. But please disabuse yourself of the catchy lie that everyone was in the same boat.
As far as I can tell, a large portion of the NFT scam involves men paying large amounts of real money to use the sort of avatar generators women have been playing with for free for at least a decade and that is extremely funny to me.
Here's a wild idea:
Don't use "strictly speaking, have I committed a crime for which I could be convicted in court?" as your standard for whether or not your sexual choices are okay. Try instead, "did everybody involved have fun?" I know, I know, but just, I dunno, think about it
Me: I wish for infinite wishes
Genie: I'm sorry, you can't wish for infinite wishes.
Me: I wish I could.
Genie: It is done.
Me: I... wish for infinite wishes?
Genie: sure, no problem, that's totally fine
Something that doesn't get discussed enough about police is how many of them are otherwise unemployable human beings. Imagine these fools catching an "if you've got time to lean, you've got time to clean," for this. Unthinkable, but they make 4x what people hear that get paid.
Jeff Bezos is worth $157.3 billion. What is even the point of that? If he were only worth $15.7 billion or even $1.57 billion or EVEN $157 million, would any part of his life actually change? Would he food taste worse? Would his home be colder? What is the point of billionaires?
If you're a cis person who supports trans rights, take a moment to ask yourself when the last time you explicitly made that clear was. If it's been a while, maybe just take a minute to say so now. Especially if you're an artist, creator, or otherwise influential person. It helps.
@paigehulsey
@KMOV
It absolutely does not look like an normal teen's bedroom. It looks like what it is: some out-of-touch white baby boomer's ad hoc guess at what a "druggie's" bedroom looks like. Every single person involved in this, including yourself, gets paid WAY too much money for this crap.
Reminder that laws designed to force trans people out of the public sphere are also (secretly) designed to push all people who deviate from conservative gender expectations out of the public sphere, too
Last time I wore a skirt was in 1994 when I interviewed for a teaching job at
@UTexasLaw
- the skirt didn't work, didn't get the job. The gov't's position in the
#AimeeStephens
case would allow employers to fire me bec I won't "dress like a girl", a huge retrenchment.
#riseupoct8
If you are worried about transphobes losing their jobs because of their bigotry, I will remind you that it's perfectly legal to fire someone for being trans in 26 states out of 50 and I will ask you to sit all the way down with your nonsense.
True Story:
Dude in an SUV pulled up next to me while I was riding my bike and yelled "are you a female or gay?" I yelled back, "Both, you nosy bitch!"
While I was a docent at the Prospect Park Zoo, I was asked at least a dozen times if a large, concrete ball in the petting zoo area was a "cow egg." Three of the people who asked were adults. I think about this all the time.
If you're pro-trans rights, talk about it. Tweet about it. Talk about it some more. Louder. Bring it up. Mention it. Find ways to work it into conversations. Again, louder. One of the most difficult things about be trans is that you don't know who's on your side UNTIL THEY SAY SO
@LucyASnyder
If they are choosing an electronic system, *they* are responsible for covering the costs of using that system. If it's too expensive to use, they should deliver payment in a different form.
Penguin Random House is the largest publisher in the world. It does not need to grow. Growth should not be its priority. Books are not auto parts or sneakers. WHAT you publish matters FAR MORE than how much you publish. And AI *WILL* *NOT* help publish //better// books. Period.
Honolulu, Hawaii uses a $150,000 robot dog named Spot to “test” the homeless population for Covid, taking their temperature from 7 feet away and otherwise hounding them on the grounds of public health
If you're reading this, you are never, ever, ever, ever, EVER going to be a billionaire.
And if I turn out to be wrong, you can give me a million dollars to rub it in my face.
"But several reliable, well-informed sources confirmed the idea that Hitler's anti-Semitism was not so genuine or violent as it sounded, and that he was merely using anti-Semitic propaganda as a bait to catch masses of followers..."
- first NYT article about Hitler, 11/21/1922
I’m beginning to wonder how this current NYT crew would have covered Hitler. “While many are suffering under the Chancellor’s strong arm tactics, others see strength in his forceful, somewhat anarchical style.”
Twitter: "This Tweet is not available because you’ve muted the person who sent it."
My stupid fucking brain: "Better click view, it might be important."
"Woke" culture is forcing us to play games w/ female protagonists that look like this: [image created using facial capture from an actual, specific human actress]
We want games with REAL women who look like this: [the most airbrushed anime bullshit you've ever seen in your life]
Shout out to the trans people who used to be Very Online about it, but got burned out by the constantly pressure & abuse that position entails & now spend their days quietly watching younger, newer trans people repeat the exact same arguments over pronouns people had 20 years ago
"Cancel culture" is just the liberal version of "political correctness," which itself is a euphemism for multiculturalism. There's no such thing as cancel culture. There's no free speech crisis. Speech is freer & more accessible than it's ever been. That's their problem with it.
Weird how the same state legislature in Texas that just gutted abortion rights & passed anti-trans sporting laws is now declaring their refusal to recognize same-sex marriages. Almost like reproductive rights, gay rights, & trans rights are related & endangered by the same people
@jamesssxo
@MobilePunch
The headline refers to him as a "multimillionaire" as though his wealth is what distinguishes him from his partner, despite being worth less than half of the amount of money she takes in a year & less than 10% of her total estimated net worth. Next time I think for you is $5.
@nikostratis
Follow-up: what do you call it when said debate is about how best to excise an entire category of people, of which the person you're silencing is a member, from society?
If your mask doesn't fit over your nose, it's too small. If it keeps falling down past your nose, it's too big.
We're two years in, folks, it's not complicated.
Y'all ever think about how Wyoming's total population is about a quarter of Chicago's, but it gets to be a state with TWO whole ass senators so one of them can get up and lie about how the
#1
issue for her constituents 800 miles from Mexico is "border security." Ain't that weird?
The crisis at our southern border is still the top issue my constituents in Wyoming talk to me about. Border security is national security. It’s time to take this crisis seriously.
"We met briefly at Oxford."
Four words which sum up a vast swathe of British politics and media.
Fuck this to the moon and then fuck it all the way into the sun.
Y'all act like trans people appeared out of nowhere a decade ago as if doctors didn't spend 80 years telling everyone who transitioned to keep it a secret. If the name "Harry Benjamin" doesn't mean anything to you, don't talk to me about how things used to be vis-a-vis the trans
Hillary — demonstrating unease with the topic of trans equality in restrooms and sports teams — claimed it isn’t something she “grew up with or ever saw.”
Weird how crime went down while the government had a moratorium on evictions and sent everyone money, but then went up when those things ended. Can't imagine what's going on there, guess people are just bad at heart
Just sliding into your timeline to remind you that, as a living human being, you are guaranteed to make a complete jackass of yourself at some point. You'll be wrong, make mistakes, hurt people you don't mean to, take the wrong side on an issue. It'll happen. It'll be okay. Ur ok
@etammykim
They didn't say "mint chocolate chip is the best ice-cream." They said I'm a sexual predator that can't be trusted and may rightfully be excluded from public life.
How dare you?
