It's official. Starting next year, Houston's highways will undergo another widening project to the tune of $9 billion, impacting 450 acres and displacing 344 businesses and 1,079 homes. I truly hope that one more lane really fixes it this time.

NHHIP: Originally cost $7 billion now cost $10 billion. Construction starts this year and wrap up in 2042! University BRT: Originally cost $1.5 billion now expected to cost $2.2 billion. Construction would've start next year and finish in 2029. Guess which one's moving forward?

It is disappointing that while other cities are adding red bus lanes, METRO is actively removing them. No one is going to follow the diamond lane configuration, as noted by every other street in downtown and midtown.

This is a terrible decision for a much-needed transit corridor. Not proceeding with the federal grant will put Houston further behind in public transportation. Whitmire (and Brock) prove yet again that they do not listen to the public as they claim.

With the Supreme Court ruling that cities are allowed to arrest homeless people in public spaces, Whitmire provides no actual plans on how to provide affordable housing to homeless people but has made it clear that homeless people do not belong in public spaces

The Houston Ave redo cost almost a million dollars, much more than the initial cost of $100,000 to install the median. Since then, there have also been gas and water leaks. This was the first, but not the last time Whitmire made a rash decision without public input.

The craziest thing about Houston Highway Planning is that apparently 2 parallel highways (6 lanes + 4 lanes), only 2 miles apart is not enough and we absolutely NEED A THIRD parallel highway, running right behind people's houses within a 2 mile corridor.

Between 2019 and 2023, there has been a noticeable decrease in crashes and speed, pedestrian and cyclist activities around Nicholson St increased over 200%, there have been no significant delays, and even got feedback from HFD, who stated their concerns were addressed.
