The universe is cold, uncaring, and always, at every moment, trying to kill us. Even before we are born, if we are lucky enough to make it that far, it is wearing at us, and in the end, through various possible means, it always wins. 1/
“I expressed my support for the One-China policy ... as well as our desire not to see independence,”
Well, fuck Gavin Newsom.
That is not the US stance on the One-China policy. He steered HARD into the party narrative here.
Ladies and gentlemen, here is a shining example of the way Chinese nationalists attempt to exploit Western ideology to defend an authoritarian neo-fascist state. Note the way that any criticism or mockery of the state is automatically an attack on the whole of China.

@GeorgeTakei
You seem to think you've made a point, here. You haven't. The fact that we're not under imminent threat of invasion from our immediate neighbors does not mean we won't be under threat if invasion from anyone. Nor does it mean that we're safe from our own govt going authoritarian.

Clearly she never saw Sigourney Weaver’s Alien franchise

You're having a lot of fun with this, aren't you Elon? I honestly don't blame you. Even I'm kind of having fun. A lot of people seem rather worried about being unable to push bias down everyone's throats unchecked.
@IAmDouglasKim
@OliverJia1014
Fuck dude, you REALLY need to work on your insults. Oliver's right. You're coming off like a 14-year-old internet troll too stupid to realize that everything you're posting just makes you look more foolish and obnoxious.
This is sadly not all that surprising. As has been stated before, China begins teaching children from very early ages to blindly hate Japan. People are often quick to defend this, citing Japan's own war crimes, which is a fair enough argument, but still presents problems.
So sickening! You never know how far the
#CCP
's "
#HateJapan
" indoctrination can go.

"Live and let live" works just fine when you're dealing with reasonable people. When you're dealing with fanatics, that changes, but you have to be careful to avoid becoming a fanatic yourself. There are plenty of them to go around, on all sides.
@GSpellchecker
And yet, they still presume to act as if they are compassionate beings, driven only by a desire for the well-being of humanity, when they are, in fact, little different from those they claim to be villains (if not outright worse).
Ladies and Gentlemen, if you aren't watching the
#news
coming out of
#China
right now, you should be. Open dissent against the party on this scale has not been seen since
#Tiananmen
. This is simply HUGE. Protests are breaking out in cities all over the country.
This has been an incredible experience! Every single one of you should be proud of what we've done! Very rarely has something like this succeeded!! Congratulations all! It's almost hard to believe we really

@michelletandler
I am progressive, but I see it as the latter. Inequality isn't ethical, but it is inescapable. We should do everything we can to make the playing field as fair to everyone as we can, but we can't force natural systems to do exactly what we want. Equity is horrible and unnatural.
@bootleg_gene
I was briefly friends with Amber (we lost touch after she married Johnny), and I don't even try that hard to defend her. It's amazing just how hard people try not to see what's right in front of them.
Hey
@RAZ0RFIST
I'm not sure if you'll be interested, but I started up a Discord server exclusively dedicated to "The Shadow", if yourself or any of your followers are interested in joining. Fair warning, it's VERY new, and therefore small.
@HistoryBoomer
I have a similar problem. I just got told by two friends that they think I am conservative! I think I have spent too much time trying to keep my side reasonable. Maybe I should just start blindly hating anyone who disagrees with me?
In all my time debating tankies and Chinese nationalist, I don't think I've ever seen a tweet quite this.. I'm honestly not sure what to call it. Mindless?
We've won! Thanks to all the wonderful cast & crew, fans,

@Noahpinion
No, they just don't care. After WWII, America is always the villain in every conflict in their eyes, especially in the conflicts in which we were pushing back against communism/socialism.
Note: This is the same fool who suggested that we basically just give Taiwan to China as a "compromise", to avoid war. His solution for avoiding war is appeasing neo-fascist authoritarian states, because that worked out SO well for us in the past.
@StationCDRKelly
You’re smart enough not to swallow media & other propaganda bs.
Starlink is the communication backbone of Ukraine, especially at the front lines, where almost all other Internet connectivity has been destroyed.
But we will not enable escalation of conflict that may lead to WW3.
@OliverJia1014
Oh, look! More people throwing around statistics while intentionally omitting context! I wonder is there was some kind of motive for them doing so?
@BojackTonasha
@OliverJia1014
Oh, look, more socially accepted racism, horribly executed. I'm starting to think that racists not being too bright is more than just a coincidence.
@SOL000777
@OhsakaRin
I think the only asshole in this conversation is you. You have no idea what the hell you're talking about, and have done nothing but make a long string of assumptions about someone from ONE tweet.
@CollinSLKoh
Oh you know, it's just China doing their creepy, possessive "everything that can be construed as coming from China belongs to us" shtick again.
@snowchi3
@Cernovich
Yeah. Being single, I have simplified this by cooking a giant batch of food at the beginning of the week, then gradually eating it throughout.
@bob_noss
@Campster
Super 8 was a derivative rehash of E.T. with a less benevolent Alien. Abrams and his friends have been, in my opinion, the worst thing to happen to science fiction in the last twenty years. Matt Reeves is the sole exception.
@CitizenFreePres
Eh, I find AOC insufferable, but we do need to support Ukraine, and we need to push back against both China and Russia. Backing down from violent tyrannical states does NOTHING to discourage them. We should try to avoid nuclear war, but appeasement is NOT an option.
@aliceysu
I still remember the comic that was released warning Chinese girls to beware of their foreign boyfriends, because they might be spies, and the girls will be severely punished if they are.
@Global_Pundits
They'll happily support him if he keeps up with this rhetoric, anyways. It will probably hurt him more than help, though. It's bad enough Hollywood is in love with China, but now Newsom. Just what the hell is it with California?
For any

Look, I'm not entirely against the idea of a black April O'Neil, if it's done for creative reasons instead of political, but this redesign is awful. It has heavy shades of "Velma" to it too, which doesn't help.
@loriannchaussee
@AdamParkhomenko
I'd want to see the bill, and hear the reasons why. It's the same as the 40 Billion aid package issue. Of course Ukraine deserves our support, but the republicans have a point regarding the need for oversight of the spending.
@joeyykun
It is true, many Japan expats are quite... odd. Bitter, cynical, and somewhat hostile, or condescending toward disagreement. I've met a few good people, so they are there, but the expat community here is VERY different from the community was in China during my time there.
#China
’s nationalism isn’t getting weird or anything. Tonight I go to have some BBQ in
#Beijing
and all of the waiting staff are wearing these T-shirts in an area with foreign embassies. “Chinese people won’t be pushed around...
#USA
has no right to speak down to Chinese people”.
@DropTheDie
In fairness, one of those films presents itself as a serious historical drama, while the other throw Queen in your face in the first ten minutes, and never pretends to be anything more than a fun comedy set in the middle ages. Context is key.
Do not let the mainland speak for everyone of Chinese descent. One of the most legitimately creepy things I have seen is the attitude from Beijing that all people, all over the world, who can be construed as being on Chinese descent, belong to China.
@OliverJia1014
It genuinely amazes me that they actually think they accomplish something with these REALLY juvenile "gotcha" responses.
The turnaround on Vietnam does interest me though. I suspect a lot of their shift in favor of the US has to do with a strong dislike of China.
@xiaoqiao0901
@SiminaMistreanu
Realistically, that may hurt your cause more than help it right now. I completely support you, but any foreign involvement will be used by the party to claim that it's not really the true feelings of the Chinese people, but really the CIA, and the West trying to hurt China.
@VLubev
@SuzanneNossel
The point was to get those advocating for these changes to reflect on their motivations/justifications, and think about the consequences of their actions.
@SusanHaine
@joerogan
@noonanjo
Oh yeah, because it's not like members of Black Lives matters and Antifa have been caught on film doing that before, while also committing other acts of violence right? They're just so peaceful. Fact check yourself, and don't be a hypocrite.

Sure! Let's just focus on ourselves and ignore the authoritarian states making massive power grabs and threatening our neighbors and allies! There's no WAY that can end badly!
@MsMelChen
Unfortunately, we have seen the exact same things coming, and I've all but given up on trying to show that to others. Too many people only see what they want to see. Too much privilege and comfort, along with the assumption of continuity, have blinded them to the risks.
Yeah, fuck Johnny Somali. My thoughts and sympathies are with the awesome dude who decked him earlier. I hope the police in their wisdom do not deport him, and that he's treated as leniently as possible, because Johnny had it coming. Can't say I wouldn't have done worse to him.

@OliverJia1014
I recommend doing a little digging. He originally was quite anti-semitic, then later on went on to marry a jewish woman whom he loved dearly. He expressed regret for several of his attitudes in his letters as well. He was a flawed, complex guy who had a SERIOUSLY messed up life.
@CameronWEF
I sympathize completely with the writer. I left China three years ago, and I'm still dealing with trauma, though it is nowhere as bad as it used to be.
You must understand that leftists will not respond to these killings rationally. They will explain them away through 'theory.' They'll never stop supporting Defund the Police. Progressivism is their religion and they will never rebuke it
China does not like being called-out on its behavior. It accuses other nations of meddling in its affairs, but whenever it itself is accused, the Party resorts to petty, childish antics.
China plans to expel a Canadian diplomat in retaliation for Ottawa's ordering a Chinese consular official to leave over alleged threats he made against a Canadian lawmaker and his family.
@OliverJia1014
Hell, even Lovecraft's views were changing as he got older, and he began to regret some of his racist attitudes. That's not something people will usually bring up, though. It's too inconvenient to the narrative.
Oliver is a solid writer, and very knowledgeable on the subjects of China, Korea, and Japan. A strong source of information and understanding, and I strongly recommend following him.

But during that time, I also saw just a hint of her dark, ambitious side. When they got married, I congratulated her, then lost touch. Then when the allegations came out, I immediatey figured it hadn't been a one way street. Amber is a bit too strong-willed for me to buy that.
This sign is plastered all over the local bathrooms. When it comes to bizarre, probably unintentionally funny translations, Japan fares better than China, but man does it have its gems.
You know what? I hate to make this comparison, but feel like it's apt: Twitter under Elon is going about as well as Hong Kong after the handover back to Beijing.

Banning books is wrong. However, so is pushing books with terrible messages on people too young to understand or question them.
@OliverJia1014
I appreciate Miyazakisan's work, but man does the guy have some weird takes. I remember when he said something to the extent that "The Lord of the Rings" was both American, and pro-war.
