Reflecting back on over 25 years and four editions of my China Law Deskbook, published by the American Bar Association starting in 1999 and every five years thereafter. I started writing the 1st edition in 1991 as a single volume bundle of joint venture and commercial laws that I tossed in my suitcase for travel around the country accompanied by foreign clients eager to tap the market. While the Deskbook is this foreign lawyer's perspective of China's legal/political system, it reflects three decades of China's legal developments, for better or worse. As my writing interests have evolved, we'll see if I will ever finish the 5th edition.

I just finished reading award-winning journalist Jim Laurie’s engaging memoir The Last Helicopter: Two Lives in Indochina. A must-read, highly recommended account for readers with an interest in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Southeast Asia modern history. The book is a raw and visceral take of life in a war zone ― a love story, a rescue gone awry, and lives separated by tumultuous events. As a young war correspondent, Jim Laurie lived through extraordinary times as both a witness and participant and sharing his personal journey with all its heartache is nothing short of courageous. @JimLaurie_Asia
