I spent 9 years helping candidates find jobs and navigate hiring practices only to realize that what needed to change was the candidate experience not candidate behavior. Humans behave in predictable ways, our processes should match reality.
Boss: I can tell you’re disappointed in the PTO changes.
Me: I’m not disappointed. I’m livid. This change directly contradicts what I signed on my offer letter.
So proud of myself for not crying and speaking my truth.
@LauraEatsVeg
It would have made much more sense to make that the policy for incoming workers, considering we’re already operating at low staffing levels 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Thank you to everyone for the support. I’m glad that my reaction to this news wasn’t an overreaction as my work implied.
I’m a remote consultant and the flexibility is incredibly important to me, especially as someone with multiple invisible disabilities and health issues.
@dvassallo
This post is basically the poster child for “tell me you’re a white man without telling me you’re a white man”.
It’s not a sacrifice if they didn’t want a child in the first place. Women aren’t born to birth your underlings.
@LeeLeeCakers
I don’t think leaders really thing things through all possible outcomes when making mass changes like this. They are willfully blind to the challenges of being an employee and not a boss.
@caseydanielee
My daughter went limp in an ambulance ride at 10 months old. She just graduated high school last week.
You’re doing the hardest, most important job out there. Thank you.
It’s really hard for people who have never had FT remote jobs to understand that we are actually working and not just chilling.
TikTok may tell you about afternoon naps but what it doesn’t tell you about is 6am zoom calls, 8hrs of teams meetings and 5+ hrs of work after.
@kristinseed
I found out Friday, definitely have had some crying time already. Things were getting so much better at work and I was starting to do more of what I love, and now I have to find a new job. It’s absolutely bs.
Can someone explain to me why a ATS released in 2018 has the functionality of something built in 2008?
I need to understand why
#HRTech
is so. Damn. Bad.
Coworker email: “I can’t get you on teams. Your status says out of office and I don’t know why!” CC: boss
I was on a flight. My calendar literally says “OOO”.
My job as your manager is not to tell you when, what and where to work on things.
It’s to give you a list of outcomes needed and remove any barriers to those outcomes that may be in your way.
@johnathonbowers
As an adoptee, I wish I also was given the chance to truly morn what I had lost, without constantly being told I’m loved and lucky. Even though I never truly understood what I was hurting from, it would have been nice to be allowed to feel validated in my emotions.
@_EDDY_29
Some of our kids were vaccine injured. And I’m not talking about “vaccines give you autism”. I’m talking about week long hospital stays and near death from a vaccine. Being skeptical of what goes in our kids bodies isn’t a bad thing.
5 years ago a local agency owner wouldn’t hire me because I lacked enough experience. (I didn’t)
Next week, I’m speaking at a conference where she will be an attendee.
I’m speaking on how to decrease candidate attrition to get more diverse candidates.
The irony is not lost.

Just gonna throw this out there…better sick than dead drunk driving.
It should have been clean to prevent the illness but I’ll take breathalyzers for everyone over the amount of death I saw in High School. Our kids have been through enough. 20 year later & still traumatized
My most controversial interview tip:
Show up as yourself. They’re going to work with you, they should like the real you. If they don’t, it’s not the job for you. Stop overly analyzing your answers and practicing for days. You are who you are and you know what you know. Show up.
@JosephBrassey
“You just need more sunshine”
“Have you tried yoga?”
“Here’s some breath exercises, they always center me.”
“Have you tried going on a walk?”
“You should eat less meat and dairy.”
“Just think about happy things like puppies or kittens”

3 years ago I spent every evening crying over a job where no one seemed to see my value and bullied me daily.
This week I signed an offer to lead RM content for an org over 100x the size of that org with double the salary.
Getting out of your comfort zone is life changing.
My friend is in town visiting me. Her husband decided she may only spend $200 for 5 days in Vegas including from her own account… from her own job. He will check.
If I hear “I have no reason to leave him, he’s not ACTUALLY abusive” one more time, y’all might see me on the news.
The recruiter in my inbox telling me she needs to meet with me tomorrow (even though I'm at an event all day) because SHE is going on vacation and can't meet again for a week... sounds like that is somehow not my problem?
@mbkar911
This is why you need a couple well intentioned tweaker friends. You would’ve been better off jacking your car back than waiting on the cops to process shit.
I didn’t get accepted into the leadership academy my employer is hosting for 2023, due to my newness on the team.
I decided to read the book list for the class regardless. Just because they didn’t accept me doesn’t mean I can’t grow as a leader myself in 2023.
Seeing my old employer post the backfill for my role with the title I had been asking for, just 4 weeks after I left is both validating and super frustrating.
Every week my boss has a full team meeting.
Every week she sits in silence and tells us to discuss.
Discuss what you might ask? No clue. She just waits for us to figure it out.
Is this leadership?
@johnathonbowers
It’s important to know that you can be loved, happy, and have an amazing loving family, who you wouldn’t trade for anything AND STILL be traumatized, hurt and needing that biological connection
I may be a middle aged college dropout woman with invisible disabilities but my dad instilled in me the confidence of a mediocre suburban white man.
And may god bless him for that.
@CoachTLMack
@MikeVanDervort
High? That’s state minimum sick pay and 10 days vacation. That’s less than I’ve had in 10 years. Not to mention, I am in the tech industry and 20 days is low in the industry as well.
@nicoleRferrera
@MikeVanDervort
They put us on accrual starting Jan 1. Meaning we will be in the negative with any time off until the balance grows. It actually means if I quit, with a negative balance, they could take it out of my last paycheck.
It would be different if they front loaded it.
Just looked at my final paystub of the year.
I did it. I MORE than tripped my income in 2 years.
I cannot even express what doors moving to Vegas opened for me and how I never would have gotten here if I hadn’t just taken a leap of faith.
God damn, I did it 🥹🥳🍾
@AshtynLaw
I have a cracked tooth. The dentist is sending me to some specialist. I ended up postponing the appointment and when I called to they told me they had planned to do the work instead of a consult and it was going to be about $800.
Who the hell has $800 to drop immediately?
Recruiter: We want to interview you! Schedule a call with me here.
Me: Your calendar is booked solid for 3 weeks. Do you have other times?
Recruiter: No, just book a time when I am open
Interview day -
*Canceled calendar invite* Note: Sorry we filled the role!
Just, why?
@Adam_Karpiak
Hiring managers who speak to you like a colleague/peer, the interview feels more like a discussion and not a quiz, the hiring manager seems truly interested in who you are/what you want to do/what you can do. Questions are open ended and promote conversation.
Just heard from a friend that she did 7 interviews, took time off work, and flew out for one of them and the recruiter didn't even call or email when they selected someone else for the role.
I don't even have words. Stop treating people like garbage.
I just got auto-rejected from an ATS not 30 seconds after applying for a job I have twice the requested experience in because I don’t have a bachelors degree.
Are we really doing this in 2022?
@kemimarie
The amount of money inmates and their families have to spend to simply be connected (one of the strongest ways to prevent recidivism) is absolutely criminal in itself. The system is built to keep people in it and desperate.
I’m sorry if you followed this account for HR tech and talent acquisition.
I am discovering that while I love these things, I much prefer to also be myself.
So this is a space of professional advice AND the absolutely unhinged mind of an almost 40 year old millennial.
Recruiters and hiring managers often forget that they aren’t just filling a role, they are changing a life.
The hiring process would be a lot less demeaning if both remembered this.
Let’s be honest, 90% of zoom calls can be summed up with a simple slack of “is this done? If not when will it be? what do you need to get it done?”
Normalize 30 seconds, not 30 minutes
@RosserJobs
This is a wonderful thought in theory but there are very few middle managers who have mastered being a leader and instead manage through threats and power dynamics. If you can’t trust your manager to listen, why would you go to them before leaving?
@remembrancermx
Omg!!! This is the best news I’ve heard all day. I’m so glad you and baby are safe for the moment and you can focus on rest. Guess you have a full blown excuse for not traveling now 😅
I don’t want to hustle. And I definitely don’t want a side hustle. I want to kick ass at my job, relax by a pool in the evening, enjoy the last few years with my kids home and have every experience possible.
I met my work goal, now I’m slowing down to take it all in.
I’ve been on prescription strength vitamin d for two months now and I just have one thing to say:
Y’all have really been out there operating with this much energy? You’ve got like super powers or something cause this is wild
Did your parents ever teach you the basics of money management or were you like every other child of a boomer and shamed for every Penny you spent with no clarification on what you should be doing with it?
You mean so many men make it worse by not being supportive of the mother of their child.
Let’s put the blame where it actually lays, on those who fail to step up and leave others to handle their responsibilities.
Postpartum depression is very real but so many women make their post birth experience 100x worse by choosing the wrong man and that is not talked about enough.

For SEO purposes it can be helpful to have it linked to from a website. So if you’re uni allows for a custom website for your courses (on their URL), you can link to that and the clicks coming from that link will count as valuable views
If your job description says “offer contingent on passing drug test and randomized testing” for a remote role, I’m probably not applying.
I would pass but it tells me everything I need to know about how you feel orgs should be able to control workers personal lives. No thanks.
@JermaineJupiter
From $20/hr to $60k was life changing. Then from $82k to $120k was the moment I felt I could finally breathe as a sole provider for two kids.
There was a shooting at Beyond Wonderland at the gorge amphitheater campground in Washington tonight. A large outdoor rave, much like the hundreds I’ve camped at in my lifetime.
First reports are saying 2 dead, two critically wounded and one in custody.
This has to stop. We
The recruitment marketing world is weird. Everyone talks about how they are doing something new, which is basically what marketers were doing 10 years ago. We don’t need more tech, we need to actually use the tech and tools that are available and already outdated.
How do those with ADHD, anxiety and depression simply survive 5 days a week in office?
Asking myself, because after 3 days in the office this week I legit wonder how I did it for so many years — no wonder my mental health was awful.
The sensory overload is astounding.
Shout out to my MacBook, the real MVP, for backing up a copy of every single iMessages conversation I’ve had for the last two years and allowing me to print to pdf. *chefs kiss*
Serious question:
How do I support my husband when he seems to be internally struggling with all the pressures on him right now?
I can’t change the situation but what can I do to make him feel more supported?
Today’s my last day.
My resignation went about as ridiculous as the rest of this job.
To summarize:
I was told I need to get a waiver from leadership in order to give less than a two weeks notice. And to let them know what my real last day would be based on that waiver. 1/2
I can’t be the only one who lived check to check so much of their life that they now keep their pantry so overly stocked it’s almost embarrassing.
Food scarcity is a trauma we don’t talk about enough.
Lately I’ve had interviews with (5) companies that all are insisting on sample projects or full case studies as part of the interview process.
All of these roles are senior manager and above in EB/RM.
What gives? Why are we asking for unpaid strategic work?
Big day today, my daughter starts her senior year of school, my son starts his 8th grade year and I start my new job.
Lots of changes are underway in our household.
@remembrancermx
I used to drag my toddler to weekend long outdoor raves. She loved it. Everyone took care of her as a community with me. Never worried about her safety once. Kids don’t mean a death sentence to your social life, unless you let them.
