He added that calves with a high DBI and a high beef sub index is a “sure way”of future proofing both the dairy and beef industries. Reduced age of slaughter, better kill-out and animals who produce less carbon are key factors in this.

Both Gorman and Stapleton stand up to make their closing remarks. Gorman said that he would set the bar high and if he doesn’t jump it, it won’t be for the want of trying. Stapleton says if he becomes president, he will listen to every farmer so that their thoughts are heard
