My pharmacist, who's always been fine, has gone...weird on me. I went to pick up meds (which took her over a week to get ready--went in 3 times and she'd forgotten), and she started asking me a lot of health questions. Then shocked me by producing my recent bloodwork results...
It was disturbing on many levels, not least because 1) she did not ask any consent for this "service" and the invasion of my privacy and 2) she did it IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PHARMACY. Luckily, no customers were there at the moment, but her assistant was RIGHT THERE.
And commencing an impromptu and completely unwelcome "medical" consult. Like WTF? Are all pharmacists doing this shit now? Are they all just drinking the koolaid and believing they are primary care practitioners now, or is this just about billing?
5) Most important: I didn't ask for this or consent to it. And there are pharmacy chains up here that have been encouraging/forcing pharm assistants to do unnecessary services to upbill the HC system under the new rules. How can it be ethical to force unwanted services on people?
I feel I should clarify some things: I'm in Canada (Alberta). Where I live, the prov (state) govt expanded scope of practice for pharmacists to start providing some primary care. I think that's dangerous for many reasons, but I have every respect for pharmacists.
When I relied on walk-in clinics, my old pharm saved my life a couple of times (locum MDs who hadn't checked my allergies carefully enough). But 1) pharms are not medical doctors--they just aren't, 2) I have an excellent MD now--thorough, careful, misses nothing. She KNOWS that.
4) She was asking deeply invasive questions about things I don't have that she was just guessing about based on bloodwork--again doc's on it (checked and ruled out). There was 0 need for her unprompted mid-store medical.
3) These were refills I've had multiple times from her. Nothing has changed. She always asks if they are still working well/if I have any questions, which is fine. THIS was not that.
@sassyashieOG
Friends of mine did same thing--family Xmas trip to Mexico. Tstd + 1st day home but "We all needed this." I asked abt all the ppl they could've infected on their way hm while contagious. Angry crickets. They quarantined for 5 dys then back to wk/sch (no - tsts). Nvr gonna end.
@jeffreyatucker
You know what else is ruinous to friendship? Infecting someone you care about with an illness you didn't even yet know you had (asymptomatic--60% of COVID infections), and knowing that person became disabled or died because of you. Masks work. It's been proven. Be a mensch.
@samthielman
Coming from a fundie background, I can tell you this is not even remotely unusual. Guys in their late 20s would volunteer as "youth leaders" with the high school groups so they could groom their future wives. 🤮
@AmirTalai
Soooooo common in evangelical circles. Not just the pastors. Older guys volunteered to "mentor" youth groups so they could pick up girls half their age. It happened at a Christian school I went to (classmate went on to marry PE teacher; she was 17 he was 30 when they met).
@1goodtern
I have something similar w a new work colleague. She was hired about 10 mos ago. She can't learn the job. It's like Groundhog Day--we tell her how the process works on Monday. Tuesday morning, it's like we never had the conversation. Back to square one. We're at a loss.
Hello, I'm "Nonny" (out of necessity), and I live in Canada. My two seniors and I never leave home (or have visitors indoors) without a respirator because we also refuse to give in to COVID without a fight. We'll keep protecting ourselves and others!
#CovidIsNotOver
@kadamssl
My relationship with my siblings has been irreparably damaged. They "disapprove" of the caution I take (& ask them to keep) with our parents, who live with me (still C-19 free). I've been shouted at, called names, threatened w "elder abuse" charges. How do you go back after that?
@YouAreLobbyLud
Actually had conversations with siblings: "Would it be so bad if the parents caught COVID (and died a painful and hideous death)--at least they'd be 'living'". Ignoring that seniors could all be doing a lot more 'living' if people would 😷 indoors, stay home when ill.
@CovidDataReport
I honestly believed we would be in a better place--that vaccines and masks would give us enough cover to improve ventilation and create new treatments. I so badly misjudged other people's ability to cope with inconvenience and bad news.
@TheAgentNDN
White middle-class privilege. Also, brunch is literally the only thing that gives meaning to their lives. Otherwise, they might have to stay home and talk to their kids or read a book or, heaven forbid, spend some quiet time in their own company.
@CovidCanada1
@sameo416
Just found out that family members came to visit my elderly parents knowing full well they were symptomatic. I was told "Well, we're all going to get it anyway. Might as well get it over with." These are well-educated, science-following people. The propaganda is unreal.
@holyqueerit
@CrippledChic
THIS. We got shamed, humiliated, isolated. And learning coping mechanisms/how to fake it to survive doesn't mean we weren't beside ourselves with the struggle. I was told I couldn't be ADHD because I finished uni--yeah, but it took me 10 years and 1 breakdown to do 2 degrees.
@1goodtern
My no vax/no mask "I know what my immune system will do" cousin yesterday admitted that she doesn't recognize names, has trouble remembering what she started out to do some days and...is missing chunks of her childhood. But only had C-19 "once (4 x) so it's not that."
@lottelydia
@madteapartee
In 🇨🇦. Had a runner friend who was told to live on carrots and celery so as not to gain "too much" weight during pregnancy because her husband was a big guy and GP feared an oversized baby. Friend had heartburn for 9 mos, starved. Baby 6 lbs and then had trouble nursing. Yay.
@1goodtern
An orthodox priest said one of the most difficult questions he faced early in the pandemic was how to live with having been the (unintentional but careless) cause of another's death. That self-awareness seems lost for so many now, when balanced against a busy 21st century life 💔
@MaryFernando_
@AirCanada
I've started carrying a legal notepad and a Sharpie. The second they say they can't hear me, I start writing it out. Their hearing improves IMMEDIATELY.
@drbecs
Got my elderly dad well-trained now. Went to his GP and nurse in the exam room told him, "Oh, you can take that off in here." Dad said, "Did the last person take theirs off?" Y. "Do you have a HEPA filter in here?" N. "Then forget it." ❤
Just saw major TV ad on the importance of Omicron boosters sponsored by Pfizer. Why is
@3M
not putting out ads on
#COVIDIsAirborne
and the importance of masks?
@LeylaDAsadi
@shazmamithani
I have been saying this for months! Changing behaviour to adapt to our new reality is not fear--its pragmatism and survival and compassion for others. People who cannot adapt are absolutely driven by fear.
@LukaszukAB
But heaven forbid they call out the UCP, the govt that laid the golden egg in unlimited rate and fee hikes. They're not really mad--they'll take a little abuse if it means their chosen party gets back in.
@PrivacyLawyerD
Still believe if white ladies and kids hadn't started dying from tainted blood, they'd NEVER have done anything. It was a game changer when Paul and Elizabeth Glaser went public.
@DataDrivenMD
I'm just tired of being gaslighted. 60+ people a week dying where I am, and family members keep saying "Yeah, but if you get it, it'll be mild. You'll be fine..."
@BarbLarochelle
Have many friends asking that. Also want to know how they're going to calculate "AB's share" of CPP. I earned most of my income to date in other provs. How is it "their share" of CPP, anyway? It's $$ taken from my pay & employers. + I have no intention of retiring/collecting here
@TheBreakdownAB
I'd be genuinely shocked if any of the people she met with could locate Alberta on a map of JUST North America, never mind remember anything about those meetings. MapleMAGAs are the most embarrassing wannabes.
@joaquinlife
I'd be willing to bet that, like the UK Houses of Parliament, significant upgrades have been made to the ventilation and filtration of that building.
@CBCNews
Indicating nothing. Have you people never worked retail? New product COMES FROM THE WAREHOUSE WITH DISCOUNT STICKERS ON IT. Price artificially inflated and discounted gives the consumer a false sense of getting a good deal. Oldest trick in the book, if you will...
@atRachelGilmore
In school, these were the guys even the uncool kids wouldn't hang out with. Their m/o was being universally repulsive, even if they had $. They had to bring new video games and candy to school to buy friends. Nothing has changed.
@chantz_y
I get that! We unicorns need to stick together. Bumped into a fellow masker trying to escape crowds on a ferry--we were both so excited we almost didn't want to get off the elevator.
@CTVVancouver
This reporting is WILDLY irresponsible. Vulnerable people, who have already been forced into unending lockdown to protect themselves, must now fear violence when they DO go out...just for wearing a mask? This is sick and dangerous.
@YourAlberta
My mental wellness would be helped a great deal by your government making a concerted effort to do its damn job and manage public health.

My 35yo nephew has been put on high blood pressure meds (double the dose his 90yo grandfather takes) following C-19 and succeeding opportunistic infection. His sister (who swears she's never tested +) is now having ❤️ palpitations. I despair.

I tutored engineering students in writing at uni. They scoffed until I reminded them that someday they were going to have to communicate with their clients. No skill/course of study is unimportant.

@merry123459
Too much American news. One of those whacko QAnon-type groups in Canada is running around calling itself "We the People" and Pat King demanded his "1st amendment rights" in court. We're getting dumber.
@CPHO_Canada
And what about those of us who care for the elderly in family homes, huh? How the hell are we supposed to avoid bringing COVID (which you KNOW is far from over) home to them when NO ONE is masking and our immunity is waning?? How is this not just "letting people die"?
@ABdoc4patients
Can confirm. Fell down flight of stairs (trashed knee, hit head and back/ribs). Sat in ER for 5.5 hrs even after triage. Overheard Dr. telling nurse (neither of whom read triage nurse's notes) that I was a "diabetes foot thing," and I could wait. ??
Hey
@mudsweatngears
. As someone in the market for an ebike, I'll be crossing you off my list too. How is "concealed identity" (not) an issue-who's shoplifting in a BIKE STORE?? You've effectively banned the medically vulnerable (and those who care for them) from your premises. 👎
@Albertadoctors
Ask the person in the room with me at the time to wear a mask? Great. What about the 50-60 people who've been in and out of the room for hours before me, when we know COVID is airborne and particles can hang in the air for hours? That kind of evidence? FFS
@jubunnies
@VioletEglantine
It's not even complaints anymore, in my sphere. It's just constant illness that they can't recall having. I say jeez, another "cold"? And they say, another? I haven't had a cold since lst yr! I point out sick days a month prior. And 7 wks before that. And. They. Can't. Remember.
@chantz_y
I'm the only NOVID on my team, and only permanent WFH (only one who asked). I spend all my time covering for sick people and correcting their errors. These are definitely not the BeforeTimes.
@ellelightsun
@Sheila_Copps
The only time I've ever been unsafe in a public bathroom was when a white early 20s dude in camo walked right in (there are no guards on the main doors, right?) & pulled his member out of his pants. How will anti-trans laws prevent that? Individual gender neutral loos FTW
Also really important to understand that in spite of what protestors have been told, Alberta, at least, had not implemented ANY new curriculum since the 80s (under the PCs) until the UCP started its curriculum rewrite. Comprehensive S3x Ed nvr existed here. It's American.
Justin Trudeau 100% correct when he says the far-right is gaslighting the Muslim Community on sex-ed
Certain members of the Muslim Community DO NOT see that they are being weaponized by the far-right
FACT IS - Sex-Ed is a PROVINCIAL responsibility that has NOTHING to do w/ JT
@arghavan_salles
Most men will gladly pay child support. Most men will gladly take full responsibility for half of the parenting, housework and mental load. Most men aren't rapists. Yeah, I don't know why I just have so much trouble believing Josh.
@ShawnaGofABPoli
Agreed. Bernardo's despicable, & I feel for the victims' families ever having to bear about him. But while there are many elements of the justice system that need reform, that should be done through legislation and debate, not the illegal interference of the executive branch.
@LauraMiers
@ADiffily
It's why I take the abuse from family and tolerate being shunned by friends for continuing to mask and talk about COVID. I can't unsee it, and I can't pretend.
@AndersonBooz
Relative lived and worked in Calgary in the 60s/early 70s. Sooooo many US expats. None wanted residency until the draft. Suddenly, they all became eligible to vote here just so they could keep their sons out of Vietnam.
@DShepYEG
It's such a tell. She herself is an entirely transactional person--she will be whatever, whoever anyone wants her to be, for a price. She cannot conceive that other people are not equally soulless.

I mean yes, terrifying, but also what "drugs" would they want to prescribe? They HATE big pharma, I thought. Man, I just don't get what's going on anymore. We are in the UpsideDown.
In Alberta, our heart surgeries will be performed by naturopaths, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists at empty Pier 1 stores. Operating rooms made with tarps and duct tape. Knock-off pain meds from Turkey administered with an ivermectin chaser. Gonna be AWESOME.
@kprather88
@sameo416
I am getting this from family, friends, co-workers. Meanwhile, (young healthy) friends just got the news that they have permanent lung damage from their "mild" Christmas break COVID infections. So yeah, for me--masks on, no gatherings. I hope I'm wrong, but I won't chance it.
@SourceDuMal
Oh the denialism when we don't, because anything up to D is "normal." No girl wants to be anything more. Had a friend in her 30s (6ft tall, built like UK comedian Miranda Hart--not petite) wearing a C. She went for a fitting. F cup. She FREAKED. Would not wear it for over a year.

What is so distressing is that COVID is such an afterthought now. Mention is almost taboo. If people test at all, it's one negative RAT and back to work as soon as they "feel better." By my count, some of coworkers have had COVID 3-4 times since November.
@HandmaidAlberta
The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing progressive conservatives that the UCP/CPC were still conservative parties (rather than radical Libertarian white supremacist fascist contrarian conspiracy machines).
@cspotweet
So he's taking care of potentially sensitive, secure government business in public, in a crowd of millions. Cool. As a taxpayer, I feel great about Judy from Croydon overhearing the details of govt court cases. JJ doing stellar work, as always.
Or lead paint. Or asbestos. Or cigarette smoke. Or trans fats and high fructose corn syrup. Not like people don't have some history that might lead them to be (at least) skeptical.
How many times have we heard, “if it was really serious the experts like CDC would warn us.”
Just like the expert VP at Morton Thiokol didn’t warn NASA about the real possibility of o ring failure?
@amymitchellart
I have been told for nearly 30 yrs that I have a lifetime ban on donating blood because of possible mad cow exposure. Now, suddenly, it's all fine. My guess is they know the potential blood supply is hopelessly compromised by C-19, so it no longer matters.
@lisa_iannattone
I've heard seniors (friends of parents) tell them on the phone that "Oh my symptoms weren't that bad at all. I'm so glad I caught it and got it over with." Minutes later, they forget who they are talking to and then apologize because they've just been so exhausted lately 🤔
@1goodtern
When I returned from studying in the UK during Mad Cow, I was given a lifetime ban on donating blood/blood products b/c of possible exposure. CDN Blood Services says it's ALL FINE NOW. No test or cure, but desp need for donors (and maybe threat of CVD exp seems more pressing?).
@TRyanGregory
I am the only person on my team who hasn't had COVID, and I am covering for someone at least once a week. The cycle of sickness and lingering effects is just constant now.
@CBCNews
Its about damn time. For people with life-threatening allergies, who NEVER get a heads up about animals in the cabin, this is an important change.
@tamarataggart
@vancolour
Thank you for speaking the harsh truth people need to hear. Masking isn't fear--it's compassion and community. And if we pushed for clean indoor air, the risk would drop even further!
@mbregg
@jkenney
These are not your grandma's conservatives. These are Wildrose/TeaParty/We-want-to-be-Texan hard right ideologues. They have no shame because they believe everything they do is okay if it serves the Agenda.
@TinaYazdani
@TRyanGregory
Happening in Alberta too. I think once con govts realized they could numb people to excess death and hide the potential for disability, COVID became the perfect opportunity to push the system over the edge.
@merry123459
Especially when he's also sitting next to
@AndrewScheer
, the Great Zero of the CPC who couldn't even QUALIFY for a real job in his chosen profession, let alone get one, and who used his brief tenure to misuse party funds. They're ridin' the gravy train!
@catladyactivist
That's the part that scares me. There is no way we can safely participate in society. I have to renew my license too; thought would do online. Found out I have to submit a medical form. So I can renew online due to health reasons, but have to go risk the clinic first. Its nuts.
@roxy_mojo
I am currently living the nightmare that is caring for an abusive narcisisstic parent with dementia (to protect the other one from a home). Instinct/self-interest only, and they no longer have the capacity even to pretend. It's a nightmare. Cause you can't do ANYTHING about it.
@RageSheen
@vipintukur
Weirdly, I remember being told as a kid, as health nurse handed me my immunization card: You'll have to get these updated as a grown-up evry 10-20 years (10 tetanus, 20 other stuff). No one believes me. Maybe they knew that & grew complacent b/c vaxx levels were high for so long?
@JasonPYYC
And getting rid of the living wall, which was created to supplement the underpowered ventilation/filtration system in the Fed Bldg, right before an airborne virus pandemic and sending all public servants back to the office before anyone else else did. 10/10
@BinsQuan
I have a feeling this will be tested in court in the not too distant future. So many people are hostages of the housing crisis/inflation/COVID minimizing families.
