The state of the Church in the USA is possibly Orthodoxy's worst scandal. It's lead to this kind of "shopping around" where people seek bias reinforcement over repentance.
I've been attending a GOARCH church for the past several months as an inquirer. The more I read about Elpidophoros, the more I want find an OCA parish for catechism. Imagine a conservative inquirer like myself new to EO and this guy is their reason for not joining the church.
