Why do people think the 15 Minute City concept is about locking people in? I live in one. It's great. I have everything I need within a short walk. Nobody has trapped me here.
Why did the Liberals ever promise a CDB if all they were going to do was fuck us around and ignore us for years, only to drop $200/mo through the DTC as their plan? They getting off on this withholding, or what? It's sadism.
Liberals ignoring the pleas of the poor, only to threaten them with "Wait'll you see what the Conservatives will do to you!", remind me of my abusive mother threatening me with my abusive father.
What do Canada's premiers actually get out of starving the disabled? It's not their money. The budgets and deficits balloon anyway. They could literally just lose the amount of money it would cost to bring
#PwD
up to a decent standard of living and not lose a wink over it.
@fordnation
I unequivocally condemn your heinous treatment of the disabled, education workers, healthcare workers, the homeless, the poor, the Indigenous, the elderly, the environment, and the province in general.
Re the CDB: anyone telling you to trust the process, keep the faith, or in any way paints this awful government's cruelty in a positive light is not being an ally at all.
Many people are turning to conservatism and religion because they believe, 100% correctly, that mainstream culture is a fraudulent sham bereft of meaning and authentic values. Their solutions are misguided, but their reasons arise from a perception of a very real problem.
Ya know, I think it just may be possible that all this stuff about Canada being some kind of utopia, and its people being super duper nice might actually be total garbage.
@TorontoPolice
Now she can be held for 72 hours and then dropped right back into the situation that put her into a suicide attempt in the first place. No support. No follow up. No hope. And the officers even managed to treat her like a human being. Wow. Way to go, Toronto!
Just got a bullshit invoice from my GP for $25 for refilling a prescription by phone. I asked for no such thing because I know they charge for this now. It's from some third party company my doctor uses, which is probably owned by a Ford. What a hellhole Ontario is now. Fuck.
@dklmarxist
Totally. It's usually about buying processed and pre-made VS basic ingredients and cooking. That said, even basics are just brutally priced right now. Both true, as you say.
If you don't live in poverty and you're defending the Liberal budget announcement on the CDB, why are you like this? They could have saved us and chose not to. Sub-poverty is still sub-poverty, and the nightmare continues. No excuses.
@fordnation
Is it Christian to leave disabled Ontarians in sub-poverty misery? If Jesus returned today, what do you think he'd make of your government?
Is there any good reason the provincial level of government across this country is so miserly and cruel? They're all awful. Name me one premier that's doing anything for the poor or cares a whit about the cost of living crisis.
The Canada Disability Benefit, as it stands, is an insult to
#PwD
across this country. You and everyone else involved know full well that $200 a month doesn't even bring assistance up to poverty level. Shame.
From passing the historic Accessible Canada Act to introducing the Canada Disability Benefit which will uplift thousands of working aged
#PWDs
, our Government will never stop working to create more inclusive communities where everyone can thrive.

Hey, Canada, any plans to stop bullying the disabled with legislated poverty, neglect, and empty promises of relief that are slow walked into the dumpster? No?
"We won't be able to do everything"
The woman who thinks being Finance Minister and Deputy PM at the same time is fine wants disabled people to know that throwing them the tiniest shred of humanity is just a little too much for her.
@cafreeland
Don't let anybody try to convince you that being tortured with expectations for years as the government fiddled, only to end up with a sociopathic $200/mo increase is anything less than war against the disabled. There is no win here.
Re C-22. I don't know how to feel. I'm so fucking cynical, and I don't want to ruin anyone's moment. But, I'm just pulled in this direction by experience. "We'll have to see" is as hopeful as I can manage right now. 😔
@TylerStack
@LillyNorthmusic
Who are these people who think this is such a great achievement?? It's about getting people excited only to break their hearts again.
If only Canadians could get a tenth as mad about the coercive euthanization of the disabled as they are about the Nazi getting a standing O in Parliament.
Why is there no mention that ODSP caps out at $1200?!!!! This is the most important thing people need to understand. Yes, other supports are lacking, but the money is what keeps
#PWD
alive. There's fuck all to "access" in that miserly pittance. Money IS access to things.
If I complain about Canadian mental health I get almost no engagement. People here couldn't be less interested in the awful reality, and I don't see how it'll ever improve. There's too much against it.
Pay day for ODSP. I could just cry! I did the math. After rent & bills there is $130.00 left .
($4.33 a day.) I am so depressed right now.
Next month the craft market opens and hopefully I can sell some crafts...but it won't help me this month. I know I am not alone in this.
@fordnation
Many mothers are struggling to raise their kids on sub-poverty assistance rates in this province. What about them? Is it the mark of a decent society to leave them languishing well below CERB levels?
It's often said that you should never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence. Canada has me all done with that one. Incompetence here is cover for malice, and a pretty threadbare one, at that. They know exactly what they're doing.
PwD and unhoused friends, I know the system isn't there for you at all. But, what of your families? Do you not have families? Are they unable to help? Have they abandoned you? I have my own story of being a family scapegoat. I'm curious if this kind of back turning is common.

It sounds like what you'd find if we were transitioning from a world of abundance and excess into one of austerity, scarcity, and collapse. I believe this to be the case.
@NoLore
The idea of us mobilizing to help the suicidal is a joke. They'll hold you for 72 hours to make sure you don't kill yourself for 72 hours, then dump you back out with no follow-up or support. Mental health in Canada is an unmitigated catastrophe.
@HumanbeingAwk
"Autistic ppl tend to think literally and in terms of information. NTs seem to think in terms of conflict" 💯 You put that very well, and it's spot on. This conflict thinking scares me.
@KamalKheraLib
When are you going to address the CDB? Disabled people are left in miserable poverty by all levels of government in this country. Do something before Pierre's people run you and yours out.
Listening to Canadas public servants as they demand raises + cite 40k-60k as 'falling behind' + living 'paycheck to paycheck' (understandably), except it should put (non-working)

#PwD
, and it's the premiers who are playing rough and threatening to claw back the meager benefit on the table, why doesn't
@KamalKheraLib
go on the political offensive and shame them? Where's the fight?
👇If anyone imagines a trauma victim can heal, even with excellent services, which we DON'T have, while struggling in today's Ontario on $1300 a month, they're delusional. Mental health is absolutely tied to material conditions. The medical model is a failure.
There is no therapy that cures poverty.
We can fund all the mental health services, (and we should fund them) but we shouldn't overlook how much of this anxiety and depression is driven by poverty itself. Talking about your feelings doesn't change one's material reality.
@TorontoStar
I think people in the media and political establishments vastly underappreciate how much rage there is in this country. It could be channeled right or left, but a lot of people are simply fed up and tuning out from the mainstream. This is dangerous to ignore.
The rise in auto thefts is alarming. Criminals are becoming more brazen, and the international black market for stolen cars has grown.
To stop these criminals, and to prevent these thefts from happening in the first place, we’re taking action. Here’s how:
So tired of this phase of the Apocalypse. Can we hurry up and get to the part where the vicious and greedy get dragged from their houses by angry mobs already?
And how many of them can afford $200/hr, week after week, ongoing, and often for years? How completely out of touch are you people? Mental healthcare isn't just *slightly* out of reach, here. People are putting yoghurt back at the grocery store, for God's sake. Wake up!
Over 5 million Canadians (18%) aged 15 and older met the diagnostic criteria for a mood, anxiety, or substance use disorder in the previous 12 months. 1 in 3 - 13 million - will experience mental illness in their lifetime. Yes, millions.
Anyone else notice that our Conservatives and Liberals both seem to overestimate the generosity of our social spending? Cons tend to think it's lavish, and Libs think it's adequate, but neither want to tackle the abysmal reality by the numbers.
@Tori_TLCR
It's surprising, given how many people are hurting right now, that the NDP hasn't seized the moment the way the Cons have. A lot of people would be happy for some government relief, but no one is tapping into that.
Proud of leaving disabled people in unconscionable poverty and doing nothing to improve mental health supports before introducing MAiD for psychiatric reasons. The Liberal Party, everybody!
Our economic plan is about building a strong economy that works for everyone, and this
#FES2023
is the next phase of our plan. With a focus on supporting the middle class and building more homes, faster, we are taking action on the priorities that matter most to Canadians.
Am I the only one who thinks people on the whole have become far less sociable, far more obtuse, far more distracted, blank, tuned out, and generally difficult to share the world with? You can see the decency leaving society by the day.
The expression you and your colleagues continue to butcher is "nothing about us without us". You continue to say "nothing without us" when you really mean "nothing for us".
From passing the Accessible Canada Act to launching the Disability Inclusion Action Plan, & the Canada Disability Benefit, our government is building a more accessible Canada. 1/2
I used to wonder how "we" let things get this bad. Now I've realized that there is no "we" here. Never was. And as long as stuff like this is happening to other people, the average Ontarian won't even read the article.

are being starved to death on miserable, sub-poverty assistance rates across this country. People who cannot work deserve to share in a decent, dignified standard of living.
The answer, as always, is money.
📢For anyone not into reading full threads here is the bottom line. The federal gov't offered the

@NeonEve2338
My experience, too. I was called "bright", and even skipped ahead a grade. Nobody paid any attention to my tics, my meltdowns, or my shutdowns, though. I didn't need tougher math problems. I needed understanding, guidance, and therapy. I still do.
There is an obviously distressed person on nearly every bus and train I take. When are we going to recognize that we're failing spectacularly on mental health?
And when is it ever the turn of the poor? When do the disabled, the addicted, the homeless get their due? When, Prime Minister?! I ask you again: WHEN?!!!
We’re asking the very wealthiest to profit a little less off their capital gains — to pay their fair share — so we can reinvest it in the middle class.

I'm at the point where I just resent being conscious. I feel like I live on a knife edge. There is no mercy, no hope, and no future here. I really feel like I could just explode.
Ontario will never recover from these incredibly dark years. Is this really how we want to live? What is so deeply wrong with this place that this is where we are?

Disabled Canadians also need nutrition. They are denied access to this and other essentials by vicious provincial assistance rates. Your government conceived of the CDB to address this. It remains undone. Why? What if not that is your mandate?
The people who think you can scrimp and save your way out of poverty are the same people who think you can micro habit change your way out of serious mental health issues. They want to put the onus to fix it on you, and not on society.
@Ryan_Daigler
Even to the point of closing every door in the victim's face, leaving them nothing but suicide as an option. There is an underlying desire to destroy the scapegoat completely and erase him or her. And that loss will, in turn, be something the abusers will use to gain sympathy.
@CQualtro
Why don't you actually address the miserable poverty that so often comes with having a disability in this country? It's what we're all asking for all the time, and you KNOW THAT.
Feeling for everyone unhoused and those with respiratory problems right now. Many of us have little to no protection in our homes, if we're even able to be inside at all. 😔
@ontarioisproud
We should probably make it harder to live, stress the population to the breaking point, eviscerate social services, and make sure there are no mental health supports of any value. Oh, we did that? Why are we still seeing this kind of thing, then?
