as the elected Mayor of Warwick I had the privilege of standing in the shadow of Air Force One and welcoming the President of the United States to my city.
I was humbled, honored and very proud to represent my city. This is the greatest country in the world.

This morning my wife Kim and I went to the Tomorrow Fund office in Providence to drop off the donations raised by the Picozzi Family Christmas display and Yuling program. I’m absolutely ecstatic to report that this year’s total is $30,057. Last year $26,000 was raised.

Warwick has suffered a devastating loss.
I knew Gerald Habershaw back when I was on the School Committee. He was devoted to his students and co-workers. He touched the lives of so many in this city.
Our condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to his loved ones.

I want to personally thank dozens of our off-duty firefighters who helped fix up the home of a disabled veteran on Oak Tree Ave today. They spent their day off beautifying the man’s yard and making it a safe livable home again.

I was made aware that Governor McKee, at the invitation of Senator McKenny, was scheduled to be in Warwick this afternoon visiting small businesses. The person that they are planning on running against me was invited, I was not.

Since I’ve been Mayor I have been, to say the least, frustrated that the city has no say or influence over airport related matters and how they affect Warwick. It’s no secret that I’ve had my battles with them.
I strongly feel that our city needs a seat at the table, a voice.

Hundreds of cars came by my Christmas display tonight and $1552 was donated to the Tomorrow Fund of Hasbro Childrens Hospital, by far the largest one night total in the 16 years that I’ve been doing this.

Last night I held a fundraiser to officially announce my candidacy for re-election.
It was standing room only and the vast majority of the people were everyday residents that support me. We don’t have a total yet but it looks to be in the 25 to $30,000 range.

This is a huge win for Warwick. We will finally have a voice on the RIAC board, someone who will look out for our best interests.

Yesterday I was humbled and honored to take the oath of office for my second term as Mayor of Warwick. My wife held my mother’s bible and my daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren stood with me. Retired Supreme Court Justice and former Mayor Francis X Flaherty swore me in.

I’m sure that most of you have seen or heard of the large police presence in the Warwick Vets area.
I can’t give any details at this time but I can say that there is no longer a threat to public safety.
This is an ongoing investigation and the police will release details later.

This morning at the Crowne Plaza there was a very special parade for a very special girl. Tomorrow Ellora will receive her last chemo treatment.
The WPD and WFD turned out as well as a lot of friends, relatives and supporters. Ellora is a Tomorrow Fund kid.

There’s a water main break on Airport Rd right in front of Hooters (I cringe at the jokes that I know are coming). Crews are loading up the trucks and will be on sight soon to make repairs.
When work begins travel will likely be restricted to two lanes so expect delays

Yesterday’s Gaspee Day Parade was once again a huge success. This was my third time marching and I can not even describe how much I enjoy it.
I have a great time seeing and saying hello everyone especially the kids, but the absolute highlight for me is when I spot my grandbabies

It starts at 3 PM and at 6 the sky lights up with a fabulous fireworks display as we say goodbye to 2023 and hello to 2024.

The Mayor’s office at City Hall will be closed today, but we’re still taking phone calls. Members of my staff are home with some sort of flu. I only have one person in today to man the phones. I’m not feeling well myself but not as bad as the others so I’m in the office.

A truck struck and damaged the train trestle in Apponaug. That part of West Shore Rd is closed. Traffic on West Shore heading towards Apponaug is being diverted down George Arden to Main Ave.
I recommend avoiding the area.

The first ever Rolling Strolling Apponaug Winterfest is starting to wind down. It’s been an incredible event. Thousands of people attended and everything went very well. I want to thank all of the volunteers and the organizing committee for the fabulous job that they did.

This morning I attended the Warwick FOP Lodge 7 Police Memorial service. We honored all of the nation’s fallen police officers, the members of our department that have passed away and especially the members of the department that were killed in the line of duty.

Senator Mark McKenney filed a companion bill in the Senate. All of Warwick’s senators and representatives supported the bill.
The Governor’s office sent a letter of opposition to the bill and I thought it was dead. However, our delegation didn’t let it die and

Further research showed that many years ago State Representative Joe McNamara tried to pass legislation getting the appointment back but it didn’t pass. I called him to ask him to try again and he immediately agreed to.

After much research I learned that the Mayor of Warwick once had an appointment to the Rhode Island Airport Corporation Board. It was granted under the original articles of incorporation of that board but years ago the appointment was taken away by state law.

Speaking to Judge McElroy in Warwick: she was appointed by my predecessor who I ran against and beat and her father was a supporter and ally of his. At the time I questioned her appointment. As Mayor I learned of what an exceptional job she does. I recently re-appointed her.

There was a huge turnout for the official city tree lighting this evening. The crowd was entertained with a DJ, a chorus from the Girl Scouts, the Carolyn Dutra Dancers and the Superettes. Santa, Mrs Claus and the Grinch were on hand.

House fire tonight on Warwick Neck. The Warwick Fire Department knocked down the fire very quickly and although damaged, the structure is intact. All residents and their pets got out safely with no injuries. I spent some time with the residents shekel but well .
