The evidence is overpowering. Juvenile Justice systems throughout Australia are in crisis - especially for First Nations kids. #RaiseTheAge is a priority.

🤦‍♀️ No, Attorney-General, locking up ten year old children in prison is not working “relatively well.” We need to #RaiseTheAge of legal responsibility.

Obeid trial abandoned yesterday. The NSW Supreme and District Courts’ remote AVL access system is an unmitigated shambles. It is completely overloaded. Typically, it takes many, many attempts over more than an hour to establish a link. Most fail to link. Those who do, drop out.

BREAKING: Today I'll introduce the Greens bill to #RaisetheAge of criminal responsibility from 10 to 14 in Qld, with an alternative model for 10-13 year olds. The national process has stalled and there are children young enough to lose baby teeth in prison. This has to stop now.

Children shouldn’t be locked in prisons - especially not adult prisons. The Judge is right - what is happening right now in WA is “barbaric", "cruel" and "a form of child abuse".

I get asked that question at parties. The answer in part: imagine if defence lawyers had to decide who was innocent before taking on a client. There would be no point having a court decide it.
