Does anyone else farming feel like they’re just surviving day to day atm? I don’t think I’ve felt this downbeat about farming since I started. Drought,price pressure,milk contract,staff,family commitments. Life is not enjoyable right now and the future scares the shit out of me.

Farming in a nutshell.. calved suckler cow, lost 60+kg Hereford bull calf.. immediately got back to dairy to pickup this little BB calf.. spent 3 days fostering and helping it drink.. cow was laid on calf tonight when I checked in and killed it.. 😣

Rollercoaster of a week.. Have been chucked off our rented 120 acre grazing farm with 48hrs notice. Had an argument with the owner and he didn’t like the way I spoke to him.

It’s rubbish like this that switches informed educated people off the likes of the knepp hardcore centre. It’s to their own commercial advantage to create a divide in agriculture and the countryside as a whole.

The last 2 years I’ve really struggled to get the transition right from indoor weaned calves on straw and concentrate to grazing.
I’ve realised you just need a shit load of good quality grass.. 🤷🏻♂️🤣👌🏽

What do you mean by industrial Caroline? Technology,GPS,precision farming,Scientific approach? Stop using emotive,outdated language and educate yourself. Agriculture impacts far less on the environment now than at anytime in the last 70 yrs.

There’s a lot of ‘farmer’ bashing going on here.. but in my experience very few of these incidences are on land owned by farmers, there are thousands of small land owners, equestrian units and land ‘investments’ that regularly badly manage hedgerows.
