Dear Urology SpR, I have no idea what a Diveen Device is,how to size patient for it or counsel on its use & if you feel it it is something your patient should have then please prescribe it yourself. Kind Regards, the entirity of Primary Care who have had quite enough of This Shit
I have spent 2 hours this morning reissuing prescriptions for brand X when brand Y is out of stock of various medicines, when the community pharmacies are perfectly capable of giving an alternative.
What an absolute waste of time, beyond ridiculous. We need urgent action now
So If I am being mandated to use MFA with NHSmail, does this mean that me, and every other person working for the NHS will get a work phone from
@NHSEngland
? Or are we expected to use personal devices?
My wife told our 3 year old "don't *pick* the strawberries, they're not quite ripe yet"... 3 year old then proceeded to lie on floor and nibble them without "picking"

Can we just say a big Thank You & Well Done to Pharmacists who have patient safety at the core of everything they do every day. Those that prescribe & get involved in
#PrescribingSafety
projects such as
@pincerscaleup
&
@Deprescribing
have a huge impact in reducing harm
Today I reached peak Designated supervisor when I helped foundation pharmacist with a "broken" keyboard by unplugging it and plugging it into a different USB port. Next week we will be doing "printer maintenance" and then I think he will be ready for a long career as a pharmacist
A real shame that
@Haymarket_Media
aren't allowing Pharmacists free access to
@mimsonline
. A growing body of prescribing professionals working in Primary Care so seems a bit unfair that GPs can access but not Pharmacists.

I always value constructive feedback from all members of my team. Yesterday I got a helpful "you have *wwaaayyyyy* to much gel in your hair Robin" from one of our prescription clerks. I will be submitting a GPhC reflection and will endeavour to strategically optimise in future.
MEDICATION MYTH 🕵️
Metronidazole & alcohol in fact DO NOT interact 🙅
1/2: The idea that they do was originally based upon the theoretical possibility of a disulfiram-like reaction between metronidazole & alcohol...

I am begging, for the sake of AMR, that any of the comms around the community pharmacy "Pharmacy First" services has WHERE CLINICALLY NECESSARY mentioned in the blurb in those related to antimicrobials that MAY be supplied under PGD 🙏🥺
@MattHancock
Employed in a different way how? They are private businesses delivering NHS services.... just like General Practice. This belief that Community Pharmacy and other contractor led health services are "different" really needs to be sorted
Much like Michael Bublé at Christmas,
@LondonAllergy
has started her rounds which means we need to sound the 🚨 IT'S TIME TO START YOUR STEROID NASAL SPRAY KLAXON 📢
If you had hay fever last season start the steroid spray now *before* you get symptoms.
In my latest podcast NHS consultant Dr Sophie Farooque
@LondonAllergy
discusses why there's an increase in allergies. Why saline nasal rinses & steroid nasal sprays can help hayfever, & why to avoid nasal decongestants & hayfever steroid injections. 1/2
Patient, 97 years, on a home visit today asked me not to stop all her meds (the ones dropping her BP and putting her at risk of falls). The pharmacy delivery man is her ‘best friend in all the world’ and sometimes the only person she see from one week to the next

Happy World Pharmacists Day!
Pharmacists do more than dispense medicines. They can also provide testing, vaccination, prescribing, direct patient care and follow-up services. Let pharmacists do more!

🩺💊 From today, you can get treatment for seven common conditions at most pharmacies without a GP prescription.
Across England, 95% of pharmacies have signed up to offer this expanded service.
Details:
Is there any chance that SSPs could be developed for things that actually cause huge workload? Just had 3 emails for atenolol 50mg being out of stock and can we do new rxs for 25mg and patient takes 2 tablets. Times that by 7000 GP practices in the UK & it's significant work!
@Saramac7
Those bloody prescribing pharmacists optimising patients meds and making sure they are getting the most out of them. Some even have the audacity to stop them when no longer needed. What a disgrace 😂🤣
In todays episode of How to Procrastinate from completing Revalidation so far we have:

-3 cups of coffee

As per usual with the new HRT prepayment nobody has thought through the logistics. A separate prescription will need to be generated in the GP systems which will mean more work for GPs and Pharmacies getting these scripts reissued 😭

Prescribers, I am begging you, don't advise patients to do this, speak to a pharmacist for advice on how to manage the shortage and what options you have
People are rationing ADHD medication, some even diluting pills in water to eke out supplies. For others it's too late - they have none. The Sunday Times looks at the crisis as ministers plan a summit with drug companies next month:

I am Philip Lee. And so is every HCW who has worked through the worst public health crisis in living memory. Promoting mask wearing is not a crime. HCWs do not deserve targetted abuse from conspiracy theorists and threats of reports to their regulator for promoting public health

➡️For most patients the minimum effective dose of levetiracetam is 500mg BD.
➡️Anyone commenced on 250 mg BD should automatically titrate to 500mg BD after 2 weeks.
A bit of a rant about

why only "doctor or nurse" why no community pharmacist. Missed opportunities to nudge behaviours and perceptions in how we word these questions imo
