Got the hell outta there. Has to be one of the most dangerous night chases I’ve ever seen especially from the position I was at north and west of the storms. Deviant motion and occlusions/new mesos was just making it way too unsafe. It’s ok to bail

video of the Katie/Wynnewood tornado on 5/9/16 and noticed something pretty amazing. Watch the center of the screen between 1-2 seconds into the video... a tree being flung probably >100mph shears off the top of another tree. Ridiculously violent tornado

A full 50 pounds down in about 6 months and I feel better than I ever have. I’m finally in a position where I feel like I can sustain the weight loss too.
I’m back eating a normal diet and have been for a while, but just eating smart to keep it off.

As a community we used to go years without hearing about someone getting hit by a tornado while chasing and it has happened half a dozen times this year already. There has been a shift in inexperienced/reckless chasers getting way too close

Imma be honest… this tornado happens today with all the hyper-content brained idiots out there and I think 20+ chasers die or come close to death
I’ve chased tornadoes for almost 25 years. And in that time, only one has ever chased me.
It was, of course, the El Reno, OK tornado of 5/31/13.
It was 2.6 miles at its widest, had winds > 300 mph, and moved faster than 50 mph.
For the first time, here is my full story:

Reminder: using damage assessments to rate tornadoes is outdated and strange. I understand it’s a legacy way of doing things, but mobile radar and photogrammetry are not being accounted for.
We should be using all available data to accurately rate and understand tornadoes

Tornado touched down right in front of me and destroyed a boat storage facility West of Blackgum, OK. Started backing up and slid into a ditch and almost got hit by it. We’re okay just shaken (had my girlfriend and dogs with me). Video later

4/30-5/23: 8,000+ miles on my car, $1,200 on gas, let down by busts, & thrilled by over-performing days, annoyed when out of position, & amazed when in the perfect spot. I'll be mostly shutting it down for the year, but after 15 tornadoes in 25 days, I'm content.

Theoretically all tornadoes form from the recycled air of the earth. So, supercells from 500 years ago are the supercells of today. Meaning, every tornado is part of the same supercell. There is only 1 tornado, and apparently we’ve all seen it

Genuinely and respectfully, if this happens to you, it’s time to hang it up. There are 1,000+ decisions when chasing that put you close to a tornado. If the large majority of those decisions get you to this point, then you need to question your decision making.

This is maybe the best representation of scientists being out of touch on public messaging… Splitting hairs over tornado “touching down” vernacular while 90% of the public has no idea what’s happening with the weather a majority of the time and thinks chemtrails are real

We need to start putting actual tornado shelters under highway overpasses because we will never get people to stop going under them in a tornado.
It’s a natural and honestly an understandable feeling to want to be protected in some way by a structure of any kind
