Throwing it back to this masterpiece that details the tragic life of the infamous Jagua Nana, a woman scorned by her love while defying the odds to survive in a post colonial Nigeria. Cyprian Ekwensi manages to draw out a range of emotions from his reader with this one. 10/10.
This revisionist piece of work tried to whitewash the reputation of the colonial meddler. The blatant and overt racism didn’t do the book any good. In one chapter, it described an African king as looking like an “educated and well dressed monkey”. On the whole, left a bad taste.
