@vikare06 Also the focus on the hyper-detailing seems to be a mask for missing skills. I've tutored many young sculptors, and without fail they obsess over little details instead of the basic forms and anatomy. That alone makes these works feel amateur. That hand looks like a bloated glove

This got rejected for a big exhibit. I'm dumbfounded as it fit the theme perfectly. Judged anonymously so I have no idea why it wasn't chosen. There's always a sting felt at times like this. Life as an artist can be challenging to the psyche. Not a good fit if one is too uptight

Too heavy-handed, both in the blatancy of the message and the rendering. The concept is sound, but it needed a more skilled artist who understands subtlety. Another example of why many say the RW can't make art. This will only appeal to pro-lifers.

This nonsense won't last much longer. There is a growing desire for true fine art and countless amazing artists worldwide dedicated to creating it. A Renaissance is amassing, largely here on X. We're connecting with trad voices and will move the culture.

I've looked at many Memento Mori sculptures from antiquity and this one is by far the most haunting I've seen. The expression imparted to essentially a skull is magnificent. Sadly the work is damaged, but its representation is deeply inspiring for my own versions of the theme.

Something novice artists usually miss is the depth of the planes of the human head. Because we see others usually from the front, it's easy to make a face too flat. The prominence of the brow ridge can be strikingly severe on some. Here it's basically average, yet still evident.

When sculpting a female nude, I look at reference photos of naked models, usually very beautiful. As an artist I'm focused on seeing the anatomy beneath the skin. It's not enticing but academic, a tool. Breathing life into clay. This post explains it well.

Artistic nudity is holistic- it's not that the subject is made sexless, it's that whatever sexual element is involved in the piece is incorporated into a greater awareness of the human qua human

Other than the face, no other part of the figure displays as much emotion than the hand. Artists who play it safe, or don't give the hands in their work proper attention are ignoring a powerful element in art. From my Memento Mori, the hand of a corpse.

Often unconsidered by non sculptors is making work that can be cast for reproduction. I made a dozen different molds for this figure. Each mold also meant cutting apart elements of the piece, retooling them to fit with no visible attachments, etc. Requires years of experience.

High feminine ratio, quite lovely. I personally find this region the most challenging when sculpting females. The proportional differences male v female alter every element in the connecting tissues with added fat reducing visibility of the anatomy. Easier to paint than sculpt.
