People buy the designs, the character is yours so you have the right to use it in any way you want unless specified otherwise by the seller
most people purchase designs and use them for personal use like commissioning other artists to draw em, or representing themselves

I'm sorry but you're in the wrong here, regardless of if the client was rude or not. If you're not willing to make a *reference* sheet & include details that are important to the client, don't take the commission.
You absolutely can not charge extra for your own mistakes.
