TLDR: When women are a minority in teams, they experience a significant influence penalty. Assigning a female team leader, however, reduces that penalty by 50%.

I am devastated by what is happening in Ukraine. As someone who has a lot of family still in Russia, I hope people know that "most people in Russia support the war with Ukraine" is one of Kremlin's biggest lies.

Senior scholars who teach junior colleagues the art of ‘no’ provide a valuable service. Senior scholars who say ‘yes’ to a few more requests (for rec letters, panels, thesis advising, etc.) so that junior colleagues get a few less asks provide an *extremely* valuable service.
👋I am presenting "Strength in numbers: A field experiment in gender, influence, and group dynamics" in the Discrimination Seminar on Fri at 1ET & would love any feedback! If you are interested in joining, here's the registration link:

After getting my shot, I conscientiously moved my arm for a good 2 hours (like they told me to) before realizing it was the wrong arm🤦♀️ On a more serious note, I cried (happy tears) when a volunteer asked me how my day's going. So grateful for light at the end of this tunnel! 🥳
Excited to present at SITE for the first time & learn about new research on gender!

I gave an interview yesterday summarizing the research on the happiness penalty for women who earn more than their husbands. Now I just need to stay strong and refrain from reading the comments.

, I am re-designing my Econ Development course to be more RCT-focused. If you teach something like this, I'd love to see your syllabus and/or other course materials you are willing to share! It's an upper-level ugrad class but grad-level materials would be helpful too
🚨 If you have run an online experiment recently: can you recommend a platform (not Mturk or Prolific) with high quality subject pool/data that allows for incentive-compatible payments.
Alternatively, do you have an online subject pool that you might allow me to use? Please r/t

🚨 Looking for data to implement a research idea (w/

We pair a theoretical model with a field experiment w/a near-universe of US school principals & find:
1. Mothers are called first 1.4 times more than fathers🧐
2. Even when fathers strongly signal their availability, mothers still get 26% of the calls😳
3. Mechanisms? 3/5

Can formal leadership structure reduce disparities in
influence? YES!
Halfway through the study, we randomly assign a team leader & find that the gender of the leader make a BIG difference. Female leaders improve women's influence,
male leaders make things slightly worse. 6/n
About 3 years ago, after my talk in a virtual seminar,
@Econ_Sandy
emailed me with kind words and really helpful feedback on the paper. We had not met prior to that. The email meant the world to me as a Jr, and ultimately led to a better paper. 💕
Married mothers employed full time spend >50% more time caring for children & engaging in housework & food prep than analogous fathers‼️
We study the extent to which this inequality is driven by external demands on parents (eg. mothers being called on more than fathers). 2/5
I got to be a part of two really excellent gender sessions

today and want to highlight the awesome papers I saw presented (in no particular order) below. If you haven't seen them yet, highly recommend taking a look! Linking the papers when they are available.👇

If both parents are listed equally as contacts, mom is 1.4 times more likely to get a call than dad.
Even when dad is listed as the designated contact & the more available parent, mom still got 26% of the calls.

Our findings underscore a process through which agents outside the household contribute to within-household gender inequalities.
These inequalities have significant labor market costs for women. As we show, closing these gaps requires efforts from both inside & outside HHs. 5/5

Congrats to Banerjee, Duflo, and Kremer. One quote that stood out to me is that "the perception is that economics is not about real problems in the real world". I chose this field to understand big, important problems in the real world w/ the unique economist tool kit. [1/3]

By randomizing the content of recruiting materials of a major financial firm, we find that signaling explicit interest in employee diversity more than doubles the interest in openings among racial minority candidates, the likelihood that they apply and are selected.

I don’t believe the four Congresswomen are capable of loving our Country. They should apologize to America (and Israel) for the horrible (hateful) things they have said. They are destroying the Democrat Party, but are weak & insecure people who can never destroy our great Nation!
I don’t like the term “work-life balance” because it implies “balance” is something we can achieve and then be set. Instead, I recognize there are lots of things I want to do - some for work and some personal. I focus on budgeting my time in a way that I feel happy with each day.
Amazing parenting over here - youngest child’s first real word is “google” (as he points to the google nest hub). Follow me for more parenting advice 🤩
