@ryjlocal I've been watching the NBA and NCAA all my life. I started watching women's basketball a couple of years ago because of Caitlin Clark and then followed her to the WNBA. I saw more shots completely miss the rim in a few months of WNBA play than I had seen in the previous 50 years.

My parents did a lot less for me than that, but not as much was needed back in those days -- I still ended grad school practically debt-free in spite of having a family. I wish it weren't this way, but it is, and we have to get clannish if we are going to remain normal Americans.

My gift to my kids was graduating from college debt-free, and I paid for much or all of their graduate school loans after the fact, so all started life debt-free. I helped one kid who got stupid with credit card debt, but only after he showed that the house was in order. All. /4.
