I had to sing my daughter an extra bedtime song tonight because she was afraid of Baba Yaga. As a dad I wanted to comfort my girl but as a folklorist I was like, “Go, Baba! You still got it!”
I was chatting to a self-published occult author who just turned down their 1st book deal. Reason being? They have a huge social media fan base who, royalty wise, make it a better option to stay self-published.
Plus, Patreon paid extras pay even more.
Interesting times!
I often forget that most people I speak to know nothing about either the occult/ anarchy/ fairies/ philosophy/ animism. Note to self: you will always be looked upon as weird.
As much as I love and promote occult writing, connecting with the land, on your own, probably teaches you more than any author or publisher ever can. The mountains I walk are definitely my teachers.
Instead of learning Confirmation prayers my daughter got to read (reread, let’s be honest here!) books by Irish authors
@TinaACallaghan
and
@griffski
. It’s been a tough year for her with loads of slagging. I think she prefers the books to pledging allegiance to a bishop 🙂
I’m only a hobbyist when it comes to it, but it’s disheartening to read occult ‘influencers’ say that fairies didn’t exist in Ireland before Christianity.
No. You mean the definition of fairies you classify as subservient to a Middle-Eastern storm God weren’t always here🙄
In Irish lore, (pre-Christian) this is not the day to stand by the sea as the queen of fairies will drag you under the waves. Luckily for me, I have a daughter who will battle the fairy queen to save her dad... ... ...daughter runs away laughing as dad is pulled into the ocean.
My daughter and I came across this amazing fairy ring with huge mushrooms on our walk tonight.
I was going to step into it for a sense of scale but decided against 👀
I’m not a marketing expert but if I were an occult publisher I’d be posting the shit out of my back catalog while lockdown is going on. Cover images, especially. Hint intended!
I just noticed that this page is almost 4 years old. It has almost 5’000 followers, which is not much in terms of social media, but, everyone following here reads and buys books.
There’s no Patreon or affiliation, just readers supporting authors.
❤️❤️❤️ Thanks.
Someone asked me if I get bored photographing the stone circles where I live. I don’t think that’s possible. Here’s the same circle, Boleycarrigeen, with the seasons cycling around it. I’m lucky to have it to myself, mostly 🙂🧚♂️
I notice when I receive mails about new academic publications that the most respected writers about magic and witchcraft don’t actually believe in magic and witchcraft.
In all the years I’ve been running this page I’ve never had such a dearth of authors promoting their own books.
Publishers don’t promote often after 6 weeks. They move on to the next title.
If you’re an author, don’t be embarrassed to keep pushing your work.
Comment: “You don’t look like a real Irish pagan.”
Colonialism 101 right there. I must make sure I dig out a robe and staff for the next pic.
Use the solstice midpoint to navigate towards your best direction, my friends. That’s the point of light. Hope we all find our right way.
I had a dream last night that I was walking with a daughter from a previous life. We were in this forested area, climbing towards a peak & she was telling me about all the things that I had missed when I left (died, I presume). I said I couldn’t remember leaving, then I woke up.
“Gentle reminder” that if you retweet me you’ll be supporting writers, publishers and books regarding witchcraft, paganism and the occult.
And you’ll make this Christian man very angry! 🙂
I can’t believe I have to say this, but if you’re openly supporting the proud boys, racist and fascist groups, and xenophobic rhetoric calling for violence against minorities, please unfollow me.
Tomorrow is Lughnasadh if you use the much later Gregorian calendar rather than the aligned ancient monuments for marking it.
August the 7th is the astronomical cross-quarter.
For both historical and magical reasons, there IS a difference.
Love my occult podcasts but so many important thinkers and writers never get interviewed. The same clique saying the same things to the same people. Hopefully, readers find the writers they need, anyway.
I’ve been posting & promoting occult books on this account for 5 years & been a book buyer and marketeer going back to the 90’s.
I wish authors remembered that it’s okay to promote your book even after your publisher stops doing so.
The dolmen with the biggest capstone in Europe at over 100 metric tons. Even though it’s been in place for 5’500 years, stand inside it and you can’t help being careful!
There are lots of people claiming to represent Irish Paganism. Be careful and selective about them all, I’d advise. I’m doubtful about us ever being one original or authentic path.
I’d actually say it’s always been chaotic and individual.
This was a really awful and difficult climb to an ancient Neolithic cairn and holy well. Luckily for me, just as I took shelter against the cairn wall the sun broke through in the distance. Beautiful.
The Magician Jesus of The Gospel of Thomas. A new article by myself. A complex piece to put together but hopefully it reads well.

I wonder if nothing could be hidden *might* link to a sharing of crops and fruit at this time? There are lots of stories about them not to be picked after Samhain as the Púca would spit/piss on them making them inedible.
With the passing of both John Anthony West & Michael Harner this week we lost two incredible innovative and wise esoteric writers. I highly recommend seeking out their work.

I find people who are forceful with their spiritual and occult certainty very off putting.
None of us know much of anything and curiosity should be encouraged, not put down.
When you substitute the ‘e’ for an ‘i’ in Tepe the meaning of Gobekli Tepe changes from ‘Pot Bellied Hill’ to ‘Place of the first ancestors’. Just re-reading Point of Origin by Laird Scranton.
I know it happens all the time, but today was the first time I was threatened with physical violence for a post. I have the screenshots and I’m happy enough with my capacity to keep a watchful eye out. Mad that people do that, though. Cowards.
Hey, all. Just a heads-up that if BRAND NEW books are available to download for free on a website then these are usually pirated titles. Please don’t link to them or tag me as these sites are depriving authors and publishers of earnings and, of course, breaking copyright.
Thanks!
I had a dream memory within a dream last night. My dreaming-self arrived at a shoreline & realised that I had been there before in a dream. My dreaming-self recalled the dream they’d had of being there. Odd & almost revelatory. As if I was on the cusp of knowing something more.
Just reading The Penultimate Truth by Dick. In the 1st chapter people have PC’s and are complaining about predictive text!
It was written in 1964.
The story itself is very gnostic and all about a fake reality imposed by rich overlords upon the masses.

One thing I notice from having this account is how smaller publishers never stop promoting their authors and titles, even years after the initial book release. For aspiring authors out there, it’s something to consider.
There are Irish pagans who are not occultists, & there are Irish occultists who are not pagans.
I wish I could make this the default consideration point for (usually) American authors who write about Irish religion & spirituality, & who are, alas, popular.
We’re not a flavour!
Tonight is Mother’s Night. A time to remember the mother’s no longer with us, the ancestors who carried us forward, and, of course, to those who can, a time to appreciate the mother’s still here.
20’000 words written on my book about Irish fairies. I know it’s good to not talk about it but posting this will put a bit of positive pressure on myself to get it over the line.
My most precious Occult book. An original 1651 first English Edition, first printing of “Three Books of Occult Philosophy” by Henry Cornelius Agrippa. Most modern magic is based on this book. When you hold the book, you can actually feel the magic.
I think of most occult philosophies as pieces of art as I get older. It’s hard to believe that the instigators were wise. The more I discover and read, the more I see how privilege dictates accessible imagination. Animism is paganism for the working classes ✊
