@UBCBiodiversity @ZoologyUBC Ever wondered if seagrass meadows support biodiversity and marine life just by being there? They probably need their neighbors! Animals move among meadows, but not all over the place - likely in regional neighborhoods! protecting a meadow can benefiit a region!

So proud of this talk by our own @EvgeniyaYangel! An outstanding talk based on her Master’s research - an experimental test of the spatial insurance hypothesis for microbes in a warming environment. Part of an excellent collaboration w/ @JoeyBernhardt @thompson_pl & Laura Parfrey
This work focuses on bacteria and is a part of a bigger experiment led by @thompson_pl and @mioconnor testing Spatial Insurance Hypothesis for multitrophic aquatic metacommunties!
