🇮🇪🇪🇺 @emireland would like to congratulate the new Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence @ThomasByrneTD. Minister Byrne previously served in this role from 2020 to 2022, serving at the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and he also worked closely with European Movement Ireland during the Conference on the Future of Europe. We look forward to working with him again during this important time for Ireland and the EU, especially as we prepare for Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026.

This evening, @emireland wishes to congratulate Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence @SimonHarrisTD (Deputy Prime Minister). As Taoiseach he emphasised our collective responsibility in ensuring that the EU continues to be a beacon for democracy and multilateralism, he called for adherence to international law and the protection of civilians in the context of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine and Israel’s war in Gaza, and reminded us that we cannot take the EU for granted in the face of many challenges. We wish the Tánaiste every success in his role ahead. At @emireland, we'd also like to thank Minister @CarrollJennifer for her significant support and engagement as Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence. During her tenure, we are grateful to Minister Carroll MacNeill for her advocacy on issues such as, upholding the rule of law, advancing matters of security and defence and continual support for Ukraine, amongst other issues. We wish her every success as Minister for Health.

Newly elected Taoiseach @MichealMartinTD was presented with his Warrant of Appointment and Seal of Office by @PresidentIRL Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin today, allowing for the formation of the 35th Government of Ireland.
