It was the start of the Brussels bombings that left 32 dead & over 300 injured. Thinking of their families today 🕊️

20 short years ago today, a bomb in Omagh, Northern Ireland killed 29 people. Victims included a Spanish student in Ireland learning english & his teacher.

Some closure finally. I was at Brussels airport that day, not far from the second bomb when it exploded. I was lucky to escape with light injuries.
These terrorists aimed to divide and create hatred. They failed in their aim in the long term, they always do 🕊️ 🇧🇪

What Sinn Féin refer to as being “deferential” to the EU is in reality because of 50 years of Treaties, each voted&approved by the Irish people.
We cherish being European as well as being Irish.

It’s as important to remember as to forget. Five years ago I was meters away from the second bomb that exploded in Brussels Airport.
I remember a Brussels in 2016 that was divided & fearful. Slowly we forgot the legacy of the perpetrators and are building a more inclusive city.
