This video shows why Eastern Europeans have been so frustrated for years with Western Europeans who just don’t understand what Russia is & how it works.
Irish MEP tells a Bulgarian MEP in the European Parliament that peace can only come through diplomacy.
Very difficult to listen to the father of Mohammad Mehdi Karami - a young Iranian karate champion who could be executed at any moment for protesting against the Government.
The more we highlight him, the more chance he has

The fact that Leo said a world without problems is a fairytale and Holly Cairns basically says no I want a fairytale….
That’s all you need to know about the Soc Dems.

Just saw this on the news at 10. I’d be embarrassed if I were a journalist to come up with something like that. The stink of inward-looking pettiness was pungent
100 years ago today as leader of the first ever Irish State, WT Cosgrave said “On this notable day when our country has emerged from bondage under which she has lived, I feel intensely proud to be the first man called to preside over the control of the destiny of our people.” 1/
Lorna Bogue saying there’s no chance of Russia invading any EU country.
This weekend Russia removed border markings on the territorial waters of Estonia.

8 years ago I was in Brussels airport waiting to check-in when I heard an almighty bang, and a second one and suddenly it was dark & I couldn’t hear anything.
It was the start of the Brussels bombings that left 32 dead & over 300 injured. Thinking of their families today 🕊️
The confirmation yesterday at the Blenheim summit of the Government's full commitment to the ECHR is very good news and will greatly help our diplomatic relations and ability to influence our European partners on issues such as co-operation on dealing with illegal immigration.
It’s hilarious how normally even-tempered British people think that the suspension of AstraZeneca vaccine is anything to do with it being invented in Oxford. AstraZeneca is a European firm, with most of its production facility in Europe 1/
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said he feels that homophobia is becoming 'a little more acceptable' in Ireland, and that he and his partner have pulled back from being as public about their relationship
@AlbertoNardelli
It’s clear now why Johnson has not met Varadkar. It would be as clear as day if they met that no progress was being made. Wouldn’t fit well with the “sham” negotiations.
20 short years ago today, a bomb in Omagh, Northern Ireland killed 29 people. Victims included a Spanish student in Ireland learning english & his teacher.
Remember this when people say violence in Northern Ireland is part of its distant past.
Ireland joined the then EEC, now EU, at midnight Brussels time on 1 January 1973. Life changed for Irish people enormously since then & we are more European than ever

An Irish MEP elected to a leadership position in one of the EU Parliament's most influential political parties.
This is what Ireland gets when we elect constructive and engaged MEPs instead of tub-thumpers.
@LornaBogue
Not a Green voter & dont always agree with her - but in her 20’s Grace O’Sullivan was on boats risking her life demonstrating against nuclear power. Beyond sniping on twitter, I’ve yet to hear of any similar accomplishments from you.
Some closure finally. I was at Brussels airport that day, not far from the second bomb when it exploded. I was lucky to escape with light injuries.
These terrorists aimed to divide and create hatred. They failed in their aim in the long term, they always do 🕊️ 🇧🇪
CONVICTED: A jury in Belgium has found 8 men guilty of terrorist murders in the trial of the 2016 Brussels Attacks.
It’s the biggest trial in Belgium’s history with over 900 plaintiffs.
32 people died in bombings at Brussels airport and Maelbeek metro.
Jaysus, what are the Government supposed to say?
The factual/statesmanlike tone of the Irish Government so far has actually been one of the most impressive parts of the negotiation IMHO
What Sinn Féin refer to as being “deferential” to the EU is in reality because of 50 years of Treaties, each voted&approved by the Irish people.
We cherish being European as well as being Irish.
SF opposed every EU Treaty so it’s no surprise to hear this boring anti-EU stickh
After a coy few years being “deferential” to the EU over Brexit, no surprise to see Sinn Féin lurching back to being a Euro-sceptic party, populism 101.
Fine Gael has and always will be a pro European party. Ireland’s membership of the EU has been extremely beneficial.
Looking attractive compared to Johnson’s madman approach to the EU:
Scotland would be a “reliable and constructive partner, a staunch ally, and a fierce friend”

I never did Erasmus. At my University I never knew it was an option.
I think have, however, spent the subsequent period of my life making up for that mistake

I arrived in Brussels 16 years ago as an stagiaire in the European Commission - one MEP answered the call to speak at our orientation - Alex Stubb - his unbridled enthusiasm for the EU inspired me ever since. Well done Alex 💪🏽

@LeoVaradkar
The British establishment are suddenly realising they understand neither Europe nor their nearest neighbour. That their self-indulgent view of themselves in the world is a lie. Stage one of loss is anger
@Michael_O_Regan
Tubridy would never have gotten his first gig in the business (cub reporter on Gay Byrne show) without his family connections. In some quarters family connections & knowing someone is the only way in. It’s an unpalatable truth about Ireland.
@alexstubb
The whole basis of UK Government policy right now is to increase tension with the EU & snub any olive branches. The best thing the EU can do now is to not say/do anything permanently damaging and wait for some sense to creep into Johnson’s head (we might be waiting)
The blinkered reaction of British commentators just shows how narrow their world view has become. The fact that Europe is exporting millions of vaccines, while the UK exports none & is cutting development aid overseas only reinforces this /ENDS
Watching Afghanistan collapse this weekend was pretty devastating.
I’m luckily thousands of miles away.
My heart goes out to the women, girls, journalists and civil society activists there. And anyone who had hoped for a better future 🖤💚♥️

@simoncoveney
- Ireland was lobbying in favour at EU level of the moves that the UK has made to ease trade between UK & Northern Ireland. However he said the UK’s move means an agreement with the EU is now impossible
@morningireland
It’s as important to remember as to forget. Five years ago I was meters away from the second bomb that exploded in Brussels Airport.
I remember a Brussels in 2016 that was divided & fearful. Slowly we forgot the legacy of the perpetrators and are building a more inclusive city.
Three years ago today I was injured in the first bomb that hit Brussels Airport. I will never forget the kindness and love that people had, despite being deeply in shock themselves.
Today, let's forget the hatred & pain. But remember the victims that should be here this sunny day
In 2016 many feared we would have to renegotiate our freedom of access to the EU and to Northern Ireland because of Brexit.
Simon Coveney and Leo Varadkar fought for and won the best possible outcome for Ireland and free movement between Ireland & Northern Ireland.
Happy to take over the Chair of the European Movement Ireland, Brussels Branch at a crucial time for Ireland's relationship with the EU.
Thanks
@NoelClehane
for your able chairing over the past 5 years!
Polish foreign minister has signed a note to Berlin demanding WWII reparations totaling around $1.26 trillion, an issue Germany says was settled in 1990.
This is madness - hotel quarantine was supposed to target countries with high levels of variants (ie not EU counties). Trampling on EU citizens’ rights at a time when travel is at an all-time low wouldn’t be seen well by Ireland’s EU partners
"New IRA" has organised the last 6 nights of violence in Derry. Just last night 74 petrol bombs and two improvised explosive devices on the streets.
Can't help but think that

is contributing to this instability.
Apple's iPhones use an Apple-specific charger. Brussels wants to ensure that the tech giant falls in line with the standard charging system by 2024 and adapts their phones for use with USB-C.
Ireland never let German U-boats operate & actively reported sightings to the British. I know because my Grandfather was a Guard whose job was to monitor Galway Bay.
But these threats were good politics for Churchill.
UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill has ordered plans drawn up for possible invasion of neutral Ireland "to force Irish cooperation", should Irish govt. let German U-boats raid from their ports.
This time about 14 years ago, I was visiting this website to start my application for the European Commission stagiaire programme. I really recommend it - both for fun and career prospects.
Deadline is August 31 for starting March 2022

Three months ago I was an expert on virus transmission, last month I was an expert in economics.
However it has come to my attention that everyone in Ireland is now an expert on European Commissioners and i feel I need to draw a line here
Today's my 40th birthday and I took some time to think what has made me the person I am: love, family, friends, sunshine, nature, adventure, beauty, laughter, creation, passion, belief, dreams, focus, compassion and humanity....
